Wonderful meal, will be back for sure
Submitted Monday, February 16, 2009 - 5:32pm [Dine in]

Tried Cru for the first time, the day after Valentine's Day for a family dinner for 5. The staff were all very gracious and friendly, though the night before must have been very busy. The food was carefully prepared and delicious. Four of us had the 'prix fixe' menu all choosing the carpaccio with humungous delectable capers, and the succulent meaty duck on some wonderful daikon pancakes. There are lots of lovely small plate choices too. Ample bread, well heated (NOT micro-waved , thank God ). Yummy desserts to finish. Enjoyed the ambience with nice low atmosphere lighting. Good varied wine list too. Great place, centrally located on Broadway off Granville.

Blue Canoe Waterfront Restaurant3866 Bayview Street, #140, Richmond
New favourite on the waterfront
Submitted Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 6:43pm [Dine in]

After several visits to the Blue Canoe in Steveston (Richmond), it is my new favourite restaurant on the waterfront. The dinner menu has had several creative and tasty additions on the seasonal sheet, the service is invariably friendly, the ambience is cozy and welcoming, and there is a beautiful view as a big bonus. On the regular menu among the dishes I would recommend are the plump mussels with chorizo, served with bread and wonderful fries. The steak with lobster butter and thyme potatoes is one of the very best I have ever had. Salads are delicious too, in particular the chicken, apricot and brie selection, as well as the Canoe salad. Some bread would be a welcome addition to some dishes, such as the main course salads. On the seasonal sheet the sage gnocchi were fabulous, served with a skewer of scallops adn vegetables. There are many other very creative choices, including lamb, pork and a variety of seafood dishes, all prepared with imagination. Among the made on the premises desserts the ganache is a true stand-out; plenty to share. Some of the cocktails are unique creations and there is an ample wine list. Heated seating is available outside and there is a cozy fireplace inside. A great addition to the waterfront!

Harbour House12233 Beecher St., #101, Surrey
they closed before we got there!
Submitted Sunday, November 16, 2008 - 11:57pm [Dine in]

Having eaten at the Harbour house a few times with varying experiences, we were willing, albeit not thrilled, to join friends there for dinner. I made a 7 o'clock reservation. At 6:10 we were and asked to come earlier, as we were to be the latest guests. We were not able to come before 7 and said we were ok with going elsewhere, but could they let our friends know? The staffer said ok. At 6:45 there was no one there to let them know!! How incredibly unreliable and rude!! This place is over-priced and has lousy service anyway, and the food is so so. They DESERVE to go out of business... Never again!
