Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The4510 Still Creek Avenue, Burnaby
Reliable Steak Joint
Submitted Tuesday, September 16, 2008 - 7:02pm [Dine in]

Everyone knows the Keg and if you don't feel like getting all dressed up for Gotham or Morten's this is a good steak stand-by.

This particular location is brand new and huge. They have done a great job with the decor.

Be prepared to wait as there is always a line up. They have a good system and do a good job of getting people seated as soon as tables become available.

We come here because you know what are getting and it is usually very consistent. Food quality vs. price is good and service is attentive and professional. We always have left overs.

I like the Rib Eye steak at 16 oz. for $28.00 with a nice Keg sized glass of Red. Asparagus and mushrooms are perfect sides for sharing.

Great little spot for quick lunch
Submitted Tuesday, September 16, 2008 - 6:46pm [Dine in]

This place is located in a Red and Blue painted Shipping Container right on the pier at Victoria's Inner Harbor.

Eco friendly concept as they use fish caught using sustainable fishing methods and also use recycled paper, and wood utensils.

The food is pretty good. I have tried the fish and chips which are great and the Grilled Salmon sandwich is also tasty if you want to avoid the deep fried stuff.

Nice ambiance right on the water where you can watch boats dock at the harbor.

I would recommend it if you are looking for a fun, great tasting lunch experience.

Great Food but...
Submitted Tuesday, September 16, 2008 - 6:21pm [Dine in]

Nautical Nellies was recommended by our doorman at the hotel. We tried to get in but they were booked so we made reservations for the next night.

We were seated at a window seat - the decor could use some sprucing up. Ordered the Steak and Crab and my girlfriend had the Salmon.

The food and wine was great. Our waitress did not come over when our glasses were empty or we may have ordered more wine... Coffee was old and she did not offer to brew a new pot.

Overall a good experience but our waitress was young and distracted with her colleagues as they were all chit chatting instead of watching tables. Might try again...

Lure45 Songhees Rd., Victoria
Typical Hotel Resteraunt
Submitted Tuesday, September 16, 2008 - 6:10pm [Dine in]

We stayed here and had a great room over looking the Inner Harbour.

Decided to eat breakfast at Lure to save time before departing. I had the Steak and Eggs and my girlfriend had an omlette. It was pretty good though the portions were small for the price. My dish did not come with toast so I had to order toast as a side...

Great view from the restaurant and the service was good except they closed the blinds half way through our meal. I was wondering why as the view was the best part of the place and other patrons were confused as well.

Better to go into downtown and try one of the local places for breakfast instead...

Great Neighborhood Pub
Submitted Tuesday, September 16, 2008 - 5:58pm [Dine in]

Visited St. James' Well for dinner and was happy we did. Nice Irish Pub ambiance. The place was clean and well kept. Lots of TV's all over for watching sports. Nice neighborhood spot in Newport Village

Nice atmosphere with lots of locals from Port Moody. Fairly busy on a Monday night (probably due to Monday Night Football). The service was prompt and attentive. Great drink specials and the food was typical Pub fare but tasty and a good value for the price... We will be back for sure...

Samba Brazilian Steak House1122 Alberni Street, Vancouver
Interesting Experience
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 7:24pm [Dine in]

My girlfriend wanted to take me to Samba for the experience. we went on a Saturday night and it was quite busy with lots of music and dancing girls and Capoeria by male performers.

The staff was very attentive and the buffet bar was a good accompaniment to the copious amounts of skewered meat freshely sliced at your table. I wenjoyed the Bison, Beef skirt steak and the Osterich meat the best. Kangaroo was very gamey and not my thing.

Overall since it was all you can eat it was ok and I am glad I went for the experience. We were speaking to a Brazilian couple next to us and they explained it was not too authentic.

If you want a great steak go to Morten's.

Sandbar Seafood Restaurant1535 Johnston Street, Vancouver
Great place, great food
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 7:09pm [Dine in]

We love this place. A super cozy with a covered roof-top patio located on Granville Island. The sevice is always superb and the seafood is very tasty. A huge menu with daily fish selection and superb sushi.

The place is huge with a Lounge, casual dining downstairs, fine dining upstairs and a sushi bar at the front entrance. We always get a spot upstairs on the roof-top patio and the ambiance is rustic and unpretentious-upscale with a couple of outdoor fireplaces and lots of heat lamps when the sun goes down.

Try their signature Glazed Salmon - it is really yummy. Lobster and Sushi is really good too.

Not pretentious but still upscale and a great place for a nice meal or first date

Hip place, average food
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 6:59pm [Dine in]

Located in trendy Yaletown. We had a brithday party and the service and drinks were fine. We ordered the Seafood Platter and friends tried some of the appetizers and they were all decent but this was a Saturday night so it was loud and bustling. At about 11 it got really packed with people lined up to get to the club part of the place.

All in all a fun place for drinks and hanging out with interesting menu items not always executed well.

Kam's Place1043 Davie Street, Vancouver
Ok
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 6:53pm [Dine in]

Having read the reviews we decided to check out Kam's as we have visited Singapore many times and love the food. Ordered the goong pad, green curry with veggies and a few other dishes and they were just ok. The service was friendly and Kam was pleasant to us and the other patrons.

Maybe they were just having a bad day or something as we left satisfied but unimpressed...

Perhaps would be considered "earth-shattering" and special if you have never left Vancouver and don't really know what great, authentic Singaporean tastes like...

Akira Sushi1069 Denman Street, Vancouver
Good for quick eats
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 6:35pm [Dine in]

If you are in the mood for some quick sushi in the English Bay area Alira is decent. The Bento boxes offer great value for under $10 and the sashimi, maki and sushi is good. The fish has been pretty fresh each time we have gone and you can't really beat it for the price.

However, as some of the reviews indicate, it may be hit and miss depending on how busy they are and who your server is. This is not the place for a high end sushi experience but of you are in the mood for a quick meal give it a try...

Great Gelato
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 6:24pm [Dine in]

This place is always lined up on Denman but well worth the short wait.

The Gelato is very good and they also have a huge selection including some sorbet choices for a non-dairy alternative. I always get on scoop of Pistachio and one scoop Ferraro Rochet gelato and it does not disappoint. My girlfriend always has the White Chocolate and Praline and they are equally as good. Price is $3.35 for two scoops in a cone or cup.

Worth a visit

Chicken Shawarma done right
Submitted Thursday, July 31, 2008 - 10:06am [Dine in]

This little place on Denman is great for a quick meal or for take-out. Usually get the Chicken Shawarma plate and have not been disappointed. Generous portion of Chicken Shwarma piled on flavored rice topped with a garlic sauce comes with Tabouli, Hummus and pita all for around $7.00.

Great value but the place does get really packed on weekends and during lunch so we usually just get it to go if there are no spots to sit on the patio chairs outside.

Can't go wrong for the price and the food is certainly much, much better than the fast food chain options for the same price.

Jambo Grill & Good Morning Paan3219 Kingsway, Vancouver
Nice
Submitted Thursday, July 31, 2008 - 9:54am [Dine in]

We were craving some Kebabs, Cassava (Mogo) and Tamarind Chutney and the Jambo Grill did not dissappoint. The food was well prepared and competitively priced. Service was attentive and the place is nicely appointed. Staff was pleasant.

The Mogo (Fried Cassava sprinkled with Chili and seasonings) was great and the Ground Beef Kebabs were tasty. Chiken Tikka was good and the everything we ordered was quickly devoured.

We have been back since but the place was full and we could not get in so be sure to make a reservation on holidays or special occasions like Mother's Day.

Pajo's Fish & Chips2800 Murray St, Port Moody
Great fish and chips by the water
Submitted Monday, July 21, 2008 - 6:13pm [Dine in]

Pajo's serves great fish and chips. Nice sized portions (we always order small Halibut and it is more than enough for a hungry adult).

The Fish can be ordered either Cod, Halibut or Salmon. The Halibut is really yummy and the batter is light and not too greasy. Chips are also notably tasty. Try the fresh squeezed Lemonade - it is quite good.

Overall, really great Fish and Chips in a nice setting at Rocky Point. Only drawback is they get very busy on weekends so be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes for your order sometimes.

Middle Eastern gem
Submitted Monday, July 21, 2008 - 6:06pm [Dine in]

Found this place by accident one day and have been going back ever since for take out. Located across from Lougheed Mall in the same strip mall as Red Robin.

Great Middle Eastern food prepared and served by the owners in a little location. Very authentic and fresh ingredients. Beef and Chicken shawarma are great and they have other authentic dishes and great tabouli. Check it out - you'll be glad!

Good food but...
Submitted Monday, July 21, 2008 - 5:54pm [Dine in]

We have been here a few times and always order a couple of Nyma Choma Platters which consists of BBQ beef ribs, beef skewer and a chicken skewer with fries and salad. It is accompanied with some tamarind chutney all for about $16 for each platter.

The food is usually pretty good but the last time we ate there the service was awful. One particular waitress was so rude and basically ruined the entire experience and totally turned me off the place. I doubt I will ever eat there again. Will probably continue to get take out since the food is good for the price.

Bombay Restaurant, The2748 Lougheed Hwy, #205, Port Coquitlam
Tasty Indian Food in Coquitlam
Submitted Monday, July 21, 2008 - 5:39pm [Dine in]

Visited The Bombay for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. It is neatly tucked away in a strip mall on the Coquitlam/PoCo border close to Coquitlam Center.

Nicely appointed room with tasteful furniture and table settings. The service was good and the staff was pleasant and friendly.

We ordered:

- Fish Pakora (great)
- Butter Chicken (good)
- Lamb Roganjosh (excellent)
- Naan
- Rice
- Raita

The Fish Pakora were nice chunks of Cod marinated in Tandoori - tasty but would have been better if they used Halibut.

Butter Chicken was nicely prepared and the sauce was well balanced between the tomato and cream.

The Lamb Roganjosh was very good and perfectly spiced. Warning - Roganjosh is pretty hot so use caution when you choose you spice level as they can prepare to your suit your own taste.

The Naan, Raita and rice were standard fare.

For the price it was pretty good. I have had better Indian food but this place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood and craving Indian.
