Went to Chilli House Thai Bistro for a late lunch today and was very satisfied. Great location on the water on the downtown side of false creek (Yaletown) by the marina.
They seated us at a great spot on the patio which is fabulous for people watching and having a few drinks on a hot sunny day.
We ordered the Tom Yum Kai soup, Beef Panang Curry, Chicken with Cashew Nut and Tiger Shrimp with Green Beans. All the food was really tasty and well prepared, especially the Panang Curry. Very well balanced flavors with perfect spice level.
Prices are fair and most main dishes are $11 - $14 with good portion sizes. We had lots of food left over to take home for a yummy late night meal or lunch tomorrow.
Service was fast, courteous and friendly.
We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this place.
We've been here a few times before and each time we really enjoyed the food and experienced good to great service. The food is more authentic than the average Tri-cities sushi joints and the prices and quality are great.
However, we just had lunch there today and it was like the twilight zone! We arrived just before the lunch rush and were greeted by an waitress who showed us to a booth. Nothing out of the ordinary...
10 minutes later we haven't even got our menus and people that came in 5 minutes after us are already sipping on their green tea and ordering. On top of it she makes it to a group of 3 guys at least 4 times while we sit there wondering what the hell is going on.
Anyway, I get up and approach her and ask if she is our waitress and explain to her we haven't even received our menus yet while she tends to people that just came in.
To make a long story short we were not the only ones as about 5 take out customers and a couple of other tables that had ordered also waited to place an order etc.
The food was good as usual and no problems there.
I figured out why the service was so different from our first visits - THE OWNER WAS NOT THERE.. Usually he has that place running like clock work and he did show up by the end of our meal and boy did the attention to service change almost instantly.
I hope he does well as I can see he really goes out of his way to make sure the customers get treated right. We will still return based on the good food and his dedication.
We have tried Sushi Town a few times... Nothing particularly bad but the cheap prices and sheer volume of patrons has definitely negatively impacted the service and quality.
I have been to Japan many times - Sashimi and sushi should be delicately cut to accentuate the natural taste of the fish and here they clearly do not follow the traditional Japanese method and instead you get large chunks of fish. Not bad but not that good either. Also the service suffers because they are quite busy. The servers are nice but just can't keep up with the turnover of tables.
I've had worst and if you want a lot of food for cheap prices then this is the place but if you want an authentic sushi experience this is not the place for you.
LOL at some of the comments about how this is "the be all and end all of sushi"... Slight exaggeration for sure...
Horizons on Burnaby mountain offers unparalleled views and a nice dining experience. On a clear night you can see across much of the lower mainland and it's nice to walk on the manicured grounds after dinner.
The food is up to par... I had the grilled Salmon which was quite good and my girlfriend ordered the Halibut which she equally liked. The quality was what you'd expect from a place like this for the price... Nothing earth shattering or overly creative but good food and professional service in an amazing setting.
Worth a visit at least once...
We tried Italian touch on a rainy Saturday night and had a great time. The ocean view is perfect. The place is cozy and well appointed. We got a great table by the window.
The servers were all very attentive and professional. The food was tasty... We had the mussels and the crab dip to start and everyone thought their pasta entrees were well prepared.
The waiter bought everyone a shot of Limoncello at the end of the meal which was a classy touch. Overall a very nice experience - we will be back...
We hit Amelia's for breakfast once in a while and have never been disappointed.
For around $5 bucks you get 2 eggs, toast, hash browns and sausage or bacon. The service is friendly and the place is clean. A nice option if you don't want to dress up or go anywhere fancy for breakfast on a lazy Sunday...
Sultan's serves up good donairs and shwarma plates. Can get a little busy during lunch as their is a school across the street but they are fairly quick and the place is clean and bright.
The food is fresh and prices are fair. Prices range from about $5 for a regular donair to about $8 for a plate with salad, rice, humous and pita. Choice of garlic sauce or sweet sauce or both...
A good place to take care of a donair craving.
Wah Wing serves up consistently good food with attentive service with fair prices.
We eat in or take out at least once every two weeks and are never disappointed with the food or service. They are quick and the selection offers something for everyone. We usually get about 4 dishes and steamed rice between the two of us and always have enough left over for lunch the next day. Avg. dishes cost between $11 - $12.95.
Worth a visit!
having experienced Harvey's in Alberta and other provinces out east we were happy to see they have a location in the Poco Home Depot.
Burgers are made fresh to order and they taste great. This location is tiny but the young staff do a great job of taking orders and getting hem out quickly - all made to order. Definitely a step up from standard fast food burgers.
Give them a try, you won;t be disappointed!!
Tried Jane's based on the positive reviews and was pleasantly surprised. Basically a hole in the wall kind of place in Burnaby. For $3.50 you get eggs, toast, home cut potato chunks and your choice of sausage, bacon or back bacon. It was a great deal considering the meal was pretty decent.
Now don't get me wrong, if you are expecting the quality of food you'd find at the Pan Pacific this is not the place. However, if you want something comparable to a $10 meal you'd get at Whitespot, Rickey's or IHOP this comes pretty darn close.
Coffee is pretty good and the crowd is eclectic and we saw runners, firefighters, and families all enjoying a morning meal.
Our bill for two breakfasts with coffee came to about $13 bucks including tip!!
The low cost wouldn't mean much if the food hadn't been decent and it was so this is a good place for VALUE which is different than just eating at a place because it's cheap.
We have been coming to Shabusen for years and after all this time they have been able to maintain the quality (and quantity) of food.
We usually go for the "all you can eat" which includes u-grill Korean BBQ items and a copious selection of fresh sushi and salad items. They also have a la carte menu selections available as well.
The service is pretty good especially for such a busy place. You just select what you would like and the quantity, fill out your card and give it to the server. The dishes come out quickly.
The quality of the sushi fish is really great and the BBQ beef, ribs and chicken are always well marinated.
Compared to other all you can eat Korean BBQ places this place rocks and everyone should visit at least once.
Prices are decent for what you get:
Dinner All You Can Eat: $23.95/person
Lunch All You Can Eat: $13.95/person
Located in a cute house on a hill in Port Moody. Very authentic interior and the place is run by the owner and his wife. We ordered Pad Thai, Tom Yum Khai soup, Chicken and Cashew and a Shrimp dish. All pretty good, nicely balanced. Portions were ok. Pleasant dinner.
Food was tasty and they were really nice people. Quaint would be the correct description of this place.
The place is nice and the service was attentive but the food was not so good.
We ordered the Pad Thai and a few other dishes and all I can say is that you could get the same quality of food, and sometimes even better, from a mall food court. The Pad Thai was not good at all.
With all the dining choices in Vancouver we will not return. Nice service, nice ambiance, but unmemorable food.
Tried the Banana Leaf twice so far - once for lunch and once for dinner. The room is cozy and comfortable but the place is small so tables are quite close to each other so don't go here if you want to have a private conversation.
The we tried the Roti Canai, Chicken Curry and Rendang Beef for lunch and it was pretty good. The flavors were very balanced and it was a good deal for lunch.
For dinner we tried a few new dishes and the Tiger Prawns platter was really great. Everything else was satisfactory.
Would probably not repeat at this location for dinner but will be back for lunch. I think we will try the other location since it is larger and has a more extensive menu.
I remember going to True Confections almost 15 years ago and it was amazing. However, it has steadily declined in quality, service and value.
Don't get me wrong, the desserts are still good (some better than others) but the whole place seems to have not changed much in the last in over a decade. The service is hit and miss and it's almost like they want you in and out as quickly as possible so they can turn over the table.
At approximately $10 or more for a piece of cake in a competitive food town like Vancouver I just think they haven't progressed much. People don't mind paying a premium price if there is value but that's just not the case here any more.
Might be a good place for tourists to go but there are other options that are more romantic and a better value for money with equally tasty desserts...
Went to Subeez on day after work for drinks and a few appetizers. We were not hungry enough for mains so we ordered about 4 appetizers:
- Goat Cheese Salad
- Mary's Little Lamb Rack
- Calamari
- Rissoto Fritter (not the actual name)
The Goat cheese salad was nice and the Lamb Rack was ok but the Calamari and Rissoto Fritter things were a bit disappointing.
However, the service was friendly and attentive and it is a funky place with a relaxed vibe.
We think perhaps their main dishes would be better so we will try again as we like the atmosphere and staff.
Went to Maurya for a weekend brunch. The room is nicely decorated and very clean.
The buffet was good but not earth shattering for their prices. Good selection of the usual dishes including Butter Chicken and Lamb Curry. Service was attentive and the servers were all nice.
Would go again for lunch.
We ended up at Acacia by accident one rainy night. Wanted to eat something different and had always seen this place when going to Delaney's for a coffee.
We were pleasantly surprised... They specialize in phylo pastry dishes. I tried the lamb and my girlfriend had the chicken pesto. Both were very tasty but I though the Chicken Pesto was very good and would get that next time. The meals were each about $9.99 including a nice mixed green salad and roasted potato/sweet potato side. House wines are priced at $4.00 per glass.
Overall the meal was lovely and they serve Lavazza coffee which was perfect after the meal. A large selection of desserts also looked great.
Noticed they have an amazing breakfast for $7.99 and we will definitely be back to try it.
Simple, tasty food with attentive service in a very European ambiance for hard to believe prices. Great value.
Would highly recommend this place.
We have had mixed experiences at Vera's on Denman.
The first time we went there were 3 young girls running the place and they were more concerned about there social lives than the customers. We ordered the daily combo special which was a pretty good deal. The Burger was ok but a little sloppy and would have been better if the cook had taken some pride in her work. Not bad for a total of 10 bucks for the combo though...
The second time we visited there were two guys working there and they seemed more mature and serious. It showed in the quality of the food... The burger was tasty and cooked perfectly.
I think it is Hit and Miss here depending on who is working. Decent but probably not the best burger in town either.
My girlfriend and I were planning to eat at Stephos one night and walked by All India. Though we hadn't planned on a heavy Indian lunch the sight of the buffet from the window got us and we walked in.
The host was very polite and the place is small but cozy and clean. We decided to go for the buffet. As we filled our plates the server had already placed a basket of fresh Naan on our table.
The food was flavorful but light enough that you could enjoy a fair sized portion without feeling too full. Their butter chicken was well made and not too heavy on the cream. They had some Veggie curries and Tandoori chicken with all the standard Indian buffet items. All the food was fresh and you could taste the quality. I suppose they have good turnover in clients so the food does not sit there for long - a good thing when considering a buffet...
The spice and flavor of the food has been adjusted for the North American palate but there is still enough authentic Indian flavor in each of the dishes to make them enjoyable. We appreciated the fact we ate generous portions and were not feeling bloated and overwhelmed right after the meal.
Great service and good quality for a $10.95 lunch buffet. A great choice if you are craving Indian food on Davie St.
