Not As Good As I Was Expecting From The Reviews, The Food Saved The Day
Submitted Thursday, December 9, 2010 - 10:44am [Dine in]

I live in the area, less than a 4 minute drive away, and after seeing the positive reviews I thought I better head back and try this place again; it's been more than a couple years since I was there last. The reason for my non-attendance is that I honestly attend another Greek restaurant regularly which is also on Scott Road but further North. My thoughts tho is that if this ones just as good or better I might as well go here and save myself the drive...unfortunately I didn't quite find that. I pulled in and if I didn't know the restaurant was there I could almost miss it. Off the main street on the backside of a small L shaped strip mall you almost can't see it and although it looks appealing enough once you start walking up to the front door it's almost too dark to see from the road. Walking in the ambience is nice except on the verge of too dark. The waitress looked very nice but young and turned out to be very inexperienced. We requested a different table then where she initially sat us due to the darkness and that was ok, our table candle tho never got lit the entire meal. When the waitress came back to take our drink order and I inquired if they had any specials she laughed and said no, when I then asked if they had any Greek beer she said maybe but they were probably out. I asked if they normally had Methos Greek beer and she thought about it quite hard and then said yes that's probably what we have...I then said I'd have one of those if they had any...turns out they did have some and I did get it. We both ordered the Kleftico, the waitress looked puzzled, so I clarified Roast Lamb Shoulder for her and she took the order successfully. Only a handful of minutes later 2 full-size Kleftico's and a basket of Pita Bread arrived at the table. We were both quite surprised at the speed the meals arrived, not necessarily a great sign "warnings of reheating" but when we tasted it the Lamb was definitely still tender and regular Greek Salad, Greek Potato & Greek Rice along with aforementioned Pita were all very tasty; only negative is that they could have just been a bit hotter. The sizing of Lamb was actually quite large and as mentioned above that overshadowed the shabby service and questionable ambiance. The waitress did check back quickly to see if the meals were alright which was a nice surprise. However as we were just 3/4 tho our meals the waitress came to the table and put the bill down saying they would be closing up soon but don't rush. Then just at the end of our meal the waitress came back and asked us to pay because they were closing the tills. I really didn't appreciate this rush/no rush clause since it wasn't even 10pm yet there scheduled closing time. We paid and finished the last few bites of our meal and left. No further acknowledgement from the waitress or any staff, even a "Thanks For Coming" or "Have A Good Night" would have been nice. So all in all I won't be coming back anytime soon. I'll stick with the better restaurant that I've been going to for years that actually only charges $12.95 for the same meal with better service. Check them out.

Jim The Greek's Taverna9441 120 Street, Delta
A Great Local Restaurant Owned And Operated By A Very Hard Working Friendly Couple
Submitted Thursday, December 9, 2010 - 10:17am [Dine in]

I've been going to Jim The Greeks for years and I've almost always enjoyed myself, left full, satisfied & recommended them to friends & colleges. It's true that the restaurant never used to appear very busy on any random weeknight but since the renovation, sometime last year, since I've gone it's definitely been busier than before and that's great to see. The usual face one immediately sees when walking tho the door is the hardworking wife Maria. She'll usually greet you immediately if she's not serving at that exact time and seat you where ever your comfortable. The menus and waters are almost there immediately and the table candle is lit without request. I almost always order the Klefico "Roast Lamb" either with or without the Tomato Sauce on top. It's a huge plate and the price $12.95 is unbeatable. Up the road it's $16.95 for almost the same thing; I think Jim's is bigger. The plate comes Greek Salad, Lots of Lamb, Greek Potato, Greek Rice, Pita on the Side with Tzatziki & Lemon Slices. If you'd rather sub a Caesar Salad at no extra cost that is an option instead of the Greek Salad. Jim will usually make an appearance either from the kitchen where he might be cooking or the back room and he'll make a point of coming around to say Hi to anyone dining. So what can I say negative well...because the restaurant isn't always so busy on the weeknights I think the Servers have a high turnover rate due to probably low tipouts and as a result, if it's not Maria serving you, then you might have hit or miss service. The food is almost top notch only thing is some of the sides might show some minor signs of being reheated but usually not and definitely not a reason to miss out. The value is incredible for the price and better than any other Greek restaurant that I know of. The ambiance after the remodel is much nicer and brighter but I personally don't like the new big screen LCD in the main dining area and it's a bittt to open not a real cozy feel unless you're sitting in the booths. All in all tho I think the best Greek restaurant around and definitely something I hope will be around for many more years in the future. Go check it out and say Hi to Maria & Jim.

Don't Forget To Thank The Chef On Your Way Out
Submitted Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - 3:25am [Dine in]

I've been here quite a few times, firstly I really like how they are open late, 2am everynight. I have been going here regularly for a while and the staff recognize me when I come. I find I get good service and my dates are happy as well. They just redid their menus and now offer good selection on all of them whether its Lunch, Dinner, Dinner Deluxe, Dinner Super Deluxe or Late Night and even Sashimi on the Late Night all be it for $3 more/person but its well worth it, the pieces are fresh and large and they don't mind if you order a ton. Some of the other items on the menu are of average quality but I still think its a great bargain. The atomosphere is spacious and the background music is enjoyable. The head waitress is always there and comes by atleast twice a meal and asks if everything is okay. I think this place deserves better reviews as I switched to it from Sui Sha Ya and am very happy. Don't forget to thank the Chef on your way out...

Sashimi
Submitted Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - 2:37am [Dine in]

Went to the restaurant because I’d heard good things and wanted to pick up a menu and check out their Sashimi and Sashimi prices among others. Arrived about 40 minutes before closing, the place was vacant and the waitress was sweeping the dining area. I checked out the menu and decided to try the Assorted Sashimi & Miso soup. Initially it seemed the staff wasn't sure if I would have time to Eat In but they allowed me to sit and I enjoyed some Tea and Miso soup, both of average quality. I waited for a bit and of course as other reviews specified the place was frequented by local teens and take out order pickups, I was the only one dining in, the place was small for dine in and not overly comfy but sufficient. The food came; I was VERY impressed by the presentation. The chef had definitely taken time to prepare the plate and it looked fantastic, I couldn't resist taking a picture. The food did taste good too, although the Tuna Sashimi was still 1/4 frozen, nonetheless I enjoyed 5 pieces of Sockeye Salmon, 4 pieces of Tuna (large), 3 pieces of Red Snapper, 3 pieces of Fatty Tuna, 3 pieces of Octopus, 2 large Prawns, some minced Spicy Tuna, some Chopped Scallop Topped With Flying Fish Roe And A Bit Of Mayo, along with Lettuce for Garnish, some Cucumber, Ginger & Wasabi. It was overall enjoyable and the staff although not overly attentive, were pleasurable and helpful when I asked what the Spicy Tuna was. Total cost was just over $23 and with cash tip $25 so not cheap but a worthwhile experience as the food was very nicely presented and seemed fresh. Would consider going back for more...
