Best butter chicken...
Submitted Monday, May 25, 2009 - 2:18pm [Dine in]

This place is awesome, I get butter chicken from here quite often. I used to live in Richmond and it wasn't very far from me which made it a place I went to once every couple weeks. Even now I live much farther away in Vancouver and I still make the trip once a month or so.

The issue of smallish servings has been covered in other reviews. Here's the secret: don't eat in! I'm not joking, when I eat in, I finish my food and it's a perfect sized entree but a little on the smaller side, which is fine because it's cream based food combined with rice and bread (lots of carbs) and fills you up anyway. However, if you get a butter chicken and rice take-out meal you get enough for 3 meals! No joke! The value on take-out is superb. I suggest calling ahead and ordering before arrival though, sometimes it can take 30+ minutes for them to make your takeout order.

Awesome place, decor isn't that appealing but it is a neighbourhood restaurant, not some downtown social bar. Great flavour and everyone I have ever taken here thinks it's the best Indian food they've ever had!

Buffet at River Rock, The8811 River Rd., Richmond
Terrible...
Submitted Monday, May 25, 2009 - 2:12pm [Dine in]

Went here the other night for a family birthday dinner, the casino itself wasn't very busy but they told us between 30 and 90 minutes for a table. This seemed odd to have such a range, later on (much like everyone on here) I discovered this is because they have unadvertised renovations going on depleting their seating area.

To top this off, they give you a pager, which went off almost an hour later and we cash out from our gambling, go up and find out they pushed the wrong pager button! Totally unacceptable!

Then when we go in, they tell us groups of 8 or above have a 15% gratuity, which seems really strange to me since it's a buffet, why would we have to pay for service when someone is not even taking our orders or bringing us food.. then they admitted it is not "mandatory" which was even stranger.

The food was okay, nothing special, I heard a lot of people complaining and for the $21.99 price you could go to The Keg and have a delicious steak + potato instead of filling yourself with marginal food. The decor looked like Denny's at best and the naming of the restaurant for being able to see the runway no longer applies due to the renovations... you can only see the underneath of Oak St. Bridge which isn't very exciting.

As for the service, we got 1 round of drinks and that's it. No one ever came by after and the plates got stacked up about 10 high before anyone even came to get them. Really lousy, certainly not worth even 10% let alone 15%.

Would never return and highly recommend avoiding this place. Totally not worth the money or wait.

Corner 234008 Cambie Street, Vancouver
Once a week
Submitted Monday, May 25, 2009 - 12:49pm [Dine in]

My wife and I go to Corner23 at least once a week, it's practically our second kitchen. The staff knows us now and can even order our food, they're pretty friendly even though there are a few servers here and there who don't speak English very well which is fine for my wife but sometimes I have to point at things.

The food is really good, my wife says it is very authentic Taiwanese cuisine and she loves it there and I really like whatever I have too. Also the drinks (or bubble-tea) are really good, the fresh fruit ones are really delicious and better than the fruit smoothies you would get at North American establishments like Jugo Juice or Orange Julius, etc.

The only bad thing about Corner 23 is parking, but that will be better once the Cambie construction is done. This place is BUSY on weekends and even weeknights, be prepared for a 15-20 minute wait for a larger table!

I like it here

If you've read through the reviews here you know the service isn't the best at Italian Tomato. It's not that the staff aren't nice or attentive, they're just run off their feet and have too many tables on busy nights so it takes them a long time to come back for orders and whatnot. I've gone on 2 different busy nights and had quick service the first time and slow service the second time. That said, the pasta is fantastic, I get 3 meals out of it and it's really, really good. I'm old-fashioned and a plain eater so I stick with the staple (Spaghetti Bolognese) and it's very flavourful. My friend tried the Chicken Parmesan and said it's the best of that dish he's ever had.

I say give it a try and just don't expect the servers to be waiting hand and foot on you, they get the job done and sometimes they're slow but it's worth it for the yummy pasta and at $14-15 a plate it's not a bad deal considering you can get 2 or 3 meals out of it!
