We've been 3 times now in the last 6 months. For White Rock, it is between this place and Giraffe's for the best food. The Pearl's sampler menu, especially with the suggested wine pairings, is wonderful. But where Giraffe's wins out in the service department. Good service is efficient, knowledgable and unpretentious. The service at the Pearl is usually efficient, generally very knowledgable, and it could not be more pretentious. There is a healthy dose of attitude served with every course, sometimes to the point of distraction. As more fine dining venues come to WRock/SSurrey and the competition increases, that will pass. But for the time being they think very highly of themselves, and they let you know it. On the whole, though, go for the food and tolerate the service.

Was there for Lunch in January, 2007. You won't be impressed by the stark ambience, but the food is reasonably good. Given that there were few others in the restaurant when we were there, the food took inordinately long to prepare, but once it arrived it was pleasant. The Roti are a good choice, but the dishes are served a la carte without fanfare. And while the food was good enough, it was by no means fabulous. Given the generally mediocre calibre of restaurants on the White Rock beach, this one is probably worth the visit.
