East is East3243 W. Broadway, Vancouver
delicious but too expensive

For what you get, this restaurant is a bit of a rip-off. Nevertheless, the food is quite delicious (especially when you use the sauces!), and the shakes are to die for! Try the shake with ice cream, pistachios, cardamom, and rose water! The four-berry one is also delicious. The service is ditzy and the portions are tiny. At one point, there was a giant nail sticking out of a bench where customers wait for their take-out orders near the cash register, and when I told the girl behind the counter, she said "oh really" and then proceeded to do nothing about it. Not cool... So yeah, mixed review. I like this place a lot (and often get take-out here to go to the beach with to watch the sunset), but it also annoys me. Kind of like family :) I recommend to the owners to have less (but more competent) staff, lowering prices, and promoting take-out.

I go here a lot because it's the only half-decent food on campus. Nevertheless, it's not amazing either. The menu changes every month and June's menu has not been very tasty (I've sampled about half of it now). April was great, however. So it really depends. Right now a lot of the dishes are either bland or oily. Good luck with July! As for the ambiance, it's got an amazing view, but the inside is sort of 80s in its idea of chic. Not particularly interesting--also, they only seat fancy-looking professors and university administrators at the nice tables with a view. Us students (who pay the same, by the way) get the tables in the back where machines make a lot of noise and servers are always bustling about. Annoying... Oh! and the coffee there is vile (and expensive). Go to Boulevard Roasting Co if you want a decent cup on campus.

my favourite brunch place!

I've only ever had brunch here, but I've been lots and for years! It's always good and the coffee is delicious! What I love about this place is that it's not a greasy fry-pit but is actually quite fine with good, fresh, ripe ingredients and solid presentation. The service is sometimes a bit patchy and the owner is pleasant but always appears rushed, but overall I strongly recomment it.

This place really disappointed me. People used to rave about how yummy it was, but when I went, it was downright bland and unpleasant. The service was decent, however. We also sent a bunch of our students there for a dinner, and every single student complained about how gross the food was. I find it hard to believe that this is the best African this foody city has to offer!
