Will be back soon!
Submitted Monday, December 8, 2008 - 10:50am [Dine in]

The boy and I went to Stella's on Saturday night for his birthday dinner. There was a long line up when we got there, but since we only needed a table for 2 we were seated very quickly. Bigger parties definitely had quite a wait. The atmosphere was upbeat, and fun, if a little noisy at time. As someone else mentioned, not the best place for a quiet, romantic night, but perfect for a fun night out.

Our server was friendly and attentative. She took our drink orders promptly and came back quickly with our drinks. She checked on us frequently enough during the meal, but was not overbearing at all. The beer selection is fantastic here and the martini/cocktail list was impressive also.

We had the beef carpaccio, marinier mussels with bread, poutine, caesar salad, and duck breast. All of the food was delicious but the carpaccio was definitely my favourite. The crispy capers, garlic sauce all complimented the delicate beef perfectly. Save room for dessert too...we shared the creme bruleƩ of the day (white chocolate and espresso that day) and it was delicious. Light, creamy, and the perfect way to end our meal.

We will definitely be back soon!

Boathouse Restaurant, The14935 Marine Drive, White Rock
Perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday evening
Submitted Monday, May 26, 2008 - 11:10am [Dine in]

Dropped into White Rock on the way back from Victoria with the boyfriend and his parents. We walked along the boardwalk and pier for a bit and then decided to stop for dinner at the Boathouse as we saw the roof top patio from the road.

We were seated prompted on the patio and our server came to take our drink orders right away. Our server was polite, friendly and professional. Drinks came quickly and we placed our orders. Our appies arrived soon after but two spinach dips were brought by. We sent one away and our server came right over and apologized explaining that he accidentally punched in 2 spinach dips instead of a dip and calamari. No problem for us as the calamari came soon after but it was nice of him to own up to his mistake.

Entrees arrived and all the seafood was cooked perfectly! Fish was flakey and moist, scallops and prawns still tender. Portions were large and we didn't have any room for dessert. We will definitely be back on another sunny day!

Great dining experience
Submitted Friday, May 2, 2008 - 11:53am [Dine in]

Went to Mythos with the bf for dinner last night. We had a great time! The service was friendly, prompt and warm. Our server checkd on us regularly but it wasn't intrusive at all. Our food arrived quickly and was delicious. Pita bread arrived still warm at the table with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip it in and the calamari was a highlight for us. We ordered a platter for 2 and there was enough food for at least 3 people. We will definitely be back again!

A great experience
Submitted Monday, April 21, 2008 - 12:04pm [Dine in]

Went to Cobre on Friday around 9pm. The restaurant was busy so I was really glad that we had made a reservation a few nights before. The only downside was that we felt a cold gust of air everytime the door opened due to the location of the table.

The food was amazing! We ordered tapas to share...the short ribs, sable fish, chicken taquitos, sea shrimp, and two orders of chips and guac. All the food was delicious and innovative. Drinks for the most part were good...I don't recommend the mojitos or the caprianha. For a latin place, they weren't very good.

The ambiance in the restaurant was nice and our server was right on the ball. He checked on us regularly enough, but wasn't overbearing. Drinks and food arrived quickly so that was a plus. My friends from out of town loved the place and so did I. I will definitely be back.

Yummy yummy in my tummy.
Submitted Monday, April 7, 2008 - 3:47pm [Dine in]

Was at Aberdeen Mall on Sunday around lunch time for dim sum with my friends. The line up at the dim sum restaurant was long so I remembered that Beard Papa's was in the mall.

Went to the food court to check it out and was surprised to see no line up. Bought 1/2 a dozen vanilla flavoured cream puffs to bring home to the family.

Personally I loved the flavour and texture of the cream puffs here. I found the choux pastry to be light and crispy. The creme anglaise was rich, creamy and not too sweet. Maybe I wouldn't have been as impressed if I had to line up for long time to get one.

The only drawback: at $1.50 a pop they sure are making a lot of $$.

Good AYCE on the North Shore
Submitted Monday, April 7, 2008 - 3:40pm [Dine in]

Went to I Love Sushi on Friday night with the bf. The selection at this AYCE restaurant is huge! I've never seen so many items that you can order from at an AYCE place before. Sure, there are some items that aren't traditionally Japanese, but most of them are still tasty.

Service was decent. We were seated quickly and the waiter came by to pick up our first round order sheet promptly. Had no trouble getting more order sheets or tea. Food arrived quickly too.

I would definitely come back again.

Good food the saving grace
Submitted Monday, March 10, 2008 - 10:28am [Dine in]

Went to The District on Friday for lunch with some co-workers. We made a reservation for 12:30 and showed up to find that they hadn't even bothered to reserve a table for us. We had to wait until 1pm to be seated.

The waitress was friendly enough and came to take out drink order quickly. She also informed us that out of the 10 items on the lunch menu, they were out of stock on 3 of them. Taking the total number of lunch items down to 7. They were also out of avocado so the salad on the menu was not complete.

We quickly placed our drink and food order with her as it was now 1:10 and we had to be back in the office for 2pm. Drinks came quickly. Food was another matter. We waited 30 minutes for 4 paninis and 2 orders of eggs benny to arrive. When the food finally did come it was delicious but we barely had time to taste it as we had to quickly scarf it down and head back to work.

The food was definitely the saving grace of this restaurant experience. Not recommended for a lunch with co-workers but I might go again on a weekend if I didn't have somewhere else to be in a hurry.

Rosa's Cucina Italiana2331 Clarke Street, Port Moody
Good food, not such good service
Submitted Monday, February 11, 2008 - 11:03am [Dine in]

Rosa's is a little italian restaurant tucked away in Port Moody. The restaurant itself is small and there was a line up when we arrived at 7:30. We waited outside the restaurant for 30 minutes.

When we finally got inside and were seated, it took us a long time to get a hold of the waitress and order. Rosa came by with a basket of bread, but didn't bother to stop to take our order. 20 minutes later the only other waitress in the place finally took our order. She wasn't friendly and didn't even crack a smile.

The wine arrived very quickly and the food followed shortly after. The food was definitely worth the wait! My canneloni and my friend's linguine riviera were both delicious. The house wine was also fantastic!

The waitress came by later to package our food up (we had lots left over as the portions were HUGE) and was much friendlier. She actually smiled and even joked around with us. Maybe she was stressed out because the restaurant was so busy earlier? Who knows.

Don't expect great service here because you won't find it. I don't think they need to provide good service as the restaurant is packed despite all the negative feedback on here. I would definitely go back, but only because of the food.

Beach House, The150 25th Street, West Vancouver
Great view, not so great food.
Submitted Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 11:51am [Dine in]

We went to the Beach House for our company's christmas lunch. It is a beautiful restaurant with a great view of the water. However, the food is only ok. For the prices they are charging, I expected the food to be much better than it was.

Mussels were overcooked and the calamari was over-battered. The crab cake was tasty, but didn't have a lot of crab meat in it. I had the chicken sandwich as my entree, which was boring and frankly I could have made it at home. My boyfriend had the crab and shrimp ravioli which was bland and not very tasty. The description of the food on the menu was promising, but the food itself did not deliver.

Pepper Leaf Asian Restaurant127 E. 3rd St., North Vancouver
Finally....great malaysian food on the North Shore
Submitted Monday, June 18, 2007 - 4:21pm [Dine in]

Went to the Pepper Leaf Restaurant last night with the fam for Father's Day. We were seated promptly by the host in the quaint, clean, cozy restaurant.

We enjoyed some roti and chicken satay to start. The curry sauce that came with the roti was spicy and a little sweet, a perfect accompaniment to the hot, fluffy roti. Chicken skewers were tender and served with a nice peanut sauce. Dry curry cod, balakang, malay fried chicken, and pad thai were all delicious too. Very well flavoured food and all the dishes were cooked to perfection

Service was friendly and the servers were very helpful in their recommendations.

We all left with full tummies and Dad was happy with his choice of restaurant for Father's Day. We will definitely be back!

Sandbar Seafood Restaurant1535 Johnston Street, Vancouver
One of the best patios in the city
Submitted Friday, June 8, 2007 - 2:35pm [Dine in]

Went to Sandbar the other night with an old friend. We had to wait about 45 mintues at the bar for a seat on the patio even though it was a Tuesday night. The wait was well worth it! We got a seat right up by the glass and could see into False Creek. Beautiful view, espeically as the lights in the city come on as the sun sets.

Food and service were both great. Our server was attentive and happily catered to our requests; checking on us often enough, but not so often that it was invasive.

We shared the spicy squid and asian chicken wrap appies. Spinach salad and crab cakes for me, steak and prawns for him. Food was spectacular for a decent price.

Highly recommended. Great date place and definitely a great patio for those upcoming summer months.

Fiction Five100 East 2nd, North Vancouver
Used to be a favourite
Submitted Monday, March 19, 2007 - 1:32pm [Dine in]

When Fiction5 opened in North Vancouver it used to be a fave spot for me and my friends. However, there has been a change of management since that time and the food, drinks, and service have vastly declined.

Was there a few weeks ago on a Tuesday night (cheap martini night) and the waitress was terrible; slow, forgot our orders, seemed more preoccupied with her friends that were there and sat down to chat with them over and over again.

The food used to be fresh and innovative, but has now become bland, greasy, and reminds me of bad fast food.

The managers/bartenders are not friendly, curt, and do not make you feel welcome at all. It's a shame really. The North Shore needs a place that Fiction5 used to be. We have ruled this spot out of our regular repetoir of watering holes.

Name of the restaurant says it all.
Submitted Monday, February 12, 2007 - 3:51pm [Dine in]

Casual Gourment Bistro has great food for a reasonable price. The sandwiches at lunch time are to die for: fresh ingredients, always prepared when you order, and delicious.

Considering that Casual Gourmet caters almost daily for the studios right next to Park and Tilford, it's amazing that the quality of food is so consistent.

Anatoli Souvlaki5 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
Great Greek Food!
Submitted Monday, February 12, 2007 - 3:37pm [Dine in]

I went to Anatoli's with my family for my birthday. We were seated promptly, even though there were a few large parties in the restaurant already and our server came by with water, and humus and pita bread very promptly.

I shared a platter for two with both of my parents and my sister order the country lamb dinner. The platter was huge and the quality of food was very good. Crispy calamari, delicious spanakopita, and tender lamd and chicken skewers. Plenty of food to share between the 3 of us. The countryu lamb was tender and the meat practially fell off the bone.

Service was prompt and friendly. Our platter took a little longer to come out due to the fact that there were two other large parties going on, but the server apologized and brought out more bread as soon as he saw we were running low.

No complaints from me and as a side note, Anatoli's does not serve pizza. I believe the reviewer below has reviewed the wrong restaurant as pizza is not even on the menu.

Joe Fortes Seafood & Chop House777 Thurlow Street, Vancouver
Great Service, Overcooked Fish
Submitted Tuesday, February 6, 2007 - 1:59pm [Dine in]

We went to Joe Fortes for Dine Out Vancouver. I ordered the oyster sampler and my boyfriend ordered the chowder. Both were fairly good. We were very disappointed with the entrees however. I had the salmon and although the portion was generous the fish was very overcooked. It was dry and tough, so much so that I actually sent it back. The waitress came back with a new piece of fish that was apparently cooked to medium but was just as bad. The short ribs, which my boyfriend had, were ok; but we've had better. Dessert was decent and the waitress did try to make up for me having to send my entree back by allowing me to order any dessert I wanted.

I think the biggest disappointment about Joe Fortes is that it touts itself as a seafood and chop house and as such I assumed that the chef would not make a rookie mistake like over cooking the fish.

Great food and great service
Submitted Tuesday, September 12, 2006 - 2:59pm [Dine in]

I have been to Rodney's numerous times for their low-tide specials. The oysters are always perfectly shucked and come with a nice variety of sauces. Mussels and clams are always steamed to perfection and the fresh bread is perfect for soaking up the extra sauce. This is definitely not a kid friend place (it's in Yaletown for goodness sake. How many kids do you see running around in Yaletown?) but the ambiance is great. The servers are attentive, friendly, and fun to chat with.
