surprised by the taste/quality of food
Submitted Monday, June 13, 2011 - 9:01am [Take-out]

was going to order a takeout sushi tray from sushi-han, ended up getting some from Hananoki.

Food quality was outstanding: fish was really fresh, sushi rice done just the way I like it (kinda el-dante but not to the point of being very chewy nor too soggy/pasty-like. Vinegar added just right.

My only disappointment is that the price is a tad on the high side when compared to many other local (those highly competitive takeout ones in Rmd area), and the portion was a bit small.

Highly recommended after a few disappointed visits locally within the past 2 weeks.

Will definitely re-visit again (Takeout/dine-in).

This hole-in-the-wall AYCE shop gets no vote from me
Submitted Friday, June 10, 2011 - 6:53am [Dine in]

Wednesday (June 8, 11) took the family to AYCE, only to realise that Rmd Sushi and Aji Taro was out of the question (one is closed on Wed; other doesn't serve AYCE until 9pm?), so out of sheer desperation (and hunger): went into this hole-in-the-wall joint.

Ordered the following food and they all turned out to be the worst of what I came to expect from AYCE places in Rmd:

(1) spicy tuna roll: got bones in it and fish tasted smelly. Tried to look away and have a second piece, same deal (fish smelly(not fresh) and got bones in it)

(2) miso soup so-so.

(3) goma-ae: typical goma-ae is done with properly blanched and chilled spinach with sasame paste (or more like sauce, depending on what portion of peanut butter you mix in). This one only has some crushed sasame sprinkled on them over some soya sauce....never had something this horrid before.

(4) beef and chicken teriyaki: both where cooked in water before being taken out and drizzled with a light sauce over the top: chicken pcs looked pale and tasteless.

(5) sushi rice was over-cooked to the point of being just a rice paste and has no texture in it. Ever have rice pasted sushi before?

(6)small fish portion for sashimi (we max'ed out on the max. number of sashimis allowed for AYCE: 6 pcs of salmon and 6pcs of tuna), and they are not very fresh looking/tasting.

We lost appitite 1/2 way through the course, paid up and simply walked away.

Bottomline: I've never been to such terrible/horrible food quality sushi place in Rmd, and vowed never to go back there again as long as I live in Rmd.
