Connor Butler2145 Granville St, Vancouver
delicious food fine service
Submitted Monday, September 22, 2008 - 2:04am [Dine in]

I try to go to Restaurant Connor Butler whenever I am in the city. I've got many friends who live downtown so I usually ask them to come along. We were there on Thursday night and the place was full so we were glad we'd made our resys early. My friend had the new 35$ 3-course taster menu and was very happy with his choice and I had the 6 course surprise menue where the highlight was the large and very fresh local halibut cheeks served with a salad of heirloom tomatoes with an amazing balsamic vinegar. I had the Huckleberry souffle for desert and this was just delish. Very nice night. I will keep going because it's comfortable, warm ambiance, and a real foodie's dream.

Metro Restaurant200 Burrard Street, Vancouver
I just tried it and liked it
Submitted Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 7:46pm [Dine in]

I have finally tried the Metro and was glad that I did. I enjoyed the ambiance of the place and the food tasted great. So, a good experience. The place was pretty busy on the Friday night that my husband and I tried it out and all the servers were quite busy, a few things could be imrpoved to make it outstanding but I will want to try again on a different night of the wk.

Cheesecake Etc.2141 Granville, Vancouver
Great cheesecake
Submitted Monday, September 24, 2007 - 6:58pm [Dine in]

A very family friendly restaurant. They serve a delicious bottomless cheesecake which is creamy and fluffy and a large dollop of real whipping cream. You are treated as a friend and Mike and Edith can always be coerced into singing and playing a tune on the piano.

C Restaurant1600 Howe Street, #2, Vancouver
C-lean up your dining room please

I met my cousin from Seattle at the C restaurant recently. We were really looking forward to it as others around Vancouver and most particularly the press, wax near poetic about it. We arrived to a half-hearted greeting, were seated at a table that is pushed up against a floor heater and is pumping heat under the table and steaming us both till we needed to ask for another table (outside this time). But while we were waiting for our server to take our order and hopefully move us, we had time to look at the restaurant itself. Well, contemperary, yeah....but dirty. Sorry, Vancouverites all, know you love this place but it is dirty. The glass cases with liquors and wines which seems to have been designed in, are filthy! How hard can it be to dust? Somebody? The seafood, was fresh, however, the bread deliicious, the salad was so-so, the wine hugely appreciated, coffee was dark, rich. So OK, nothing had much flavour save for the coffee and wine but as meals go.....it was just that; OK. Large bill for just OK. There are (in my opinion), better eateries by far, in Van.

Sooke Harbour House1528 Whiffen Spit Road, Sooke
atmosphere and taste
Submitted Monday, March 12, 2007 - 2:57am [Dine in]

For our anniversary, our son and wife gave us the gift of an overnight stay and a couple of meals at the Sooke Harbour House. Wow. You just don't get this type of experience very often. The restaurant serves food right from the waterfront over which the hotel and restaurant face but also from the meticulously kept and immensely large gardens. Thier dinner salads are extra beautifully decorated with fresh garden flowers and the seafood seasoned and complimented by their own herbs. So beautiful that they invite you to take an early morning stroll with them to see it all. AND THE SMELL!! The pastry chef Josh is famous for his cornbread muffins and if you want them to make you up a picnic for the day...they will. Try it. Fantastic and beautiful. Stay the night if you can.
