Pink Peppercorn Seafood House1485 Kingsway, Vancouver
Great Seafood and happy to have the lobster oil again!
Submitted Thursday, October 21, 2010 - 11:22pm [Dine in]

I recently went to the pink peppercorn, because my friend were recommending and they said that its use to be the lunch chef at the cannery that opened up this place, and they said its a must drive. great portions, good prices, and a comfortable dining.
I have the west coast Bouillabaisse, plenty of seafood, cooked perfectly, my friend had a salmon special that was really awesome too! then we had dessert! we had tirimisu, it could be better, but its not bad.It need more lady fingers, and each layer should be soaked. What can say, this place is a seafood restaurant not a dessert house. The portion were huge that we didn't even have to get appetizer but there were really some good choice! Server was attentive and friendly, my glass of water was never empty, and he was the only person running the floor with like 6 tables. Impressive! I arrived at 615 with my girls the ambiance was comfortable, we were not rushed. he stay until closing, just cuz we were chatting. The servers didn't mind at all that we stayed so long.
Overall i had a really good time i will be back, espcially for the lobster oil and the seafood choice!!!

I was brought here by a friend for my birthday! What a surprise, as soon as we walked in they knew it was my birthday. They make some very special touches and trying to personalize my experience which was great! The food is truly classic french, even the plating, but its great food, and a great experience! I had the seafood tempure salad to start. The pan seared duck with calvados jus. amazing and the side plate of vegetable it was place like an art piece. wonderful. perfectly cooked. service was good.
However there drink are mediocre, needs more improvement with there bartender.

Not so great anymore
Submitted Monday, August 2, 2010 - 8:04pm [Dine in]

I use to love this place, i had almost all my big celebrations here. I've been a customer since david hawksworth time, to warren gerathy, and tried it out once again when it was david gunawan's turn. The quality of the ingredient that they use are still very fresh and good, however what they pair with the dishes now doesn't make it outstanding anymore. I had the spot prawns to starts, lets just start with the presentation of the plate too much red. The prawn however was cook perfectly. However the flavours doesnt excite me.
Then I had the halibut dishes with gem lettuce, the lettuce was amazing. BUT my hailbut had a hard seared on it so it was hard as a rock therefore it caused my fish to be over cooked.

The desserts were still very good. Can't go wrong with pastry chef vianni's desserts.

The service was good, but i prefer the old servers that use to be there. They were must more personable, much more knowledge and know how to carry on with a great conversation.

The drink by David are still so amazing , i tell him the flavours he's just able to surprise me with something every time. So stopping by just for a drink its a definate must do.

This restuarant really needs a more experience chef to bring it back up, perhaps a executive chef that has many more years of cooking experience on his back. I loved this place one and I hope it does well in the future.

Great Place, Great food!
Submitted Saturday, June 26, 2010 - 10:22pm [Dine in]

I recently went to pear tree for my anniversary and had a great intimate time. I had request to sit in a quiet spot and which they did do that for me. It was a small restuarant but it carried and great ambiance and great food. They do have a small menu, but everything on the menu is made to perfection full of flavour. I definately recommend trying to this place out, its nice, modern, good service, great food and a local neighbour with fair pricing for a fine dining place. I had the Spot prawn cappucinno bisque delightful, full of flavour and the prawns were cook perfectly. Then we had the trout, it was so so. wasnt enough flavour after if you had the bisque but otherwise the fish was cook perfectly. The scallops on bacon risotto was a killer, bacon and scallop goes really well with eachother. Then the pork trio. totally amazing. Dessert was sooo amazing. i wanted more. We had request to have a chef menu and he did it for us. I appreciated that they did us a chefs menu last minute when the restaurant was full that night. I was definately a night to remember and i will be back for more. last note** the buttery brioche was soo soft, moist and buttery** wouldnt mind seconds , but if we did then we won't have finish all 9 courses. Amazing.

Bad experience not meant for big parties or for eating
Submitted Sunday, November 22, 2009 - 3:26am [Dine in]

First of all I have to APOLOGIZE to all my friends who had a horrible dinner. Secondly I think i deserve a APOLOGY from LUX for such a horrible experience on my birthday.

Upon arrival we were promptly seated, however the tables we got were right by the entrance and one of our tables were a fold out table with linen on it, it felt like a picnict table. our second table was a long table then on one the end with a small round table for 3 of us to share. terrible seating plan.

We then order our appy's and entree, there was no coordination with the front of the house and the kitchen. some appy's came first then some entree ones first then it was switched around and then they forgot a few dishes. it was not organized and consistent at all. the waitress kept apologizing but she was definitely not an experience server.

The food had no flavour everyone entrees were over cooked. one of my gf said her fish was hard as a rock and she was slamming it on her plate. I had the tuna avocado tower as appy that was pretty good but that was the only thing cuz it was raw. anything that required cooking was over done. Then i had the halibut cheek with potato. it was gross the potato was toss with spring veggies then with lots of pepper. my fish was over cooked and tough. the fish was hard and stringy.

I was fooled by the online pictures of the place the decor really isn't that great. overall i would not go back again nor would i recommend it to anyone. It almost felt as if i was throwing my money away.

I didnt even have dessert because i just lost all hope for this place. Many friends had to go to McDonald or mega bite to fill themselves up.
We had a good crowd of friends there but then dinner just ruined everyones mood.

So if your planning to give it a shot for dining PLEASE think twice.
