Sushi Go7026 Kerr Street, Vancouver
Only if you have to
Submitted Thursday, August 5, 2010 - 6:35pm [Dine in]

Haven't been here in a few years - obviously never outstanding or barely memorable. Went last week after I had to go to kins next door and was craving sushi. I was on a time limit so I remembered this place had premade sushi ready to go. No more.

I went in there and the premade sushi is gone and I had to order and wait like any sushi place. Strike one.
It cost more than most other take out sushi places I've ever been. Strike two.
When I got it home, I found the most POORLY made rolls I have ever seen. I made tighter rolled sushi at my first sushi making class, Each and every piece opened and fell apart when I picked it up no matter what I tried. Strike three.

I hope strike four isn't food poisoning. Some of it tasted kinda suspicious.

Sushi Go is now Sushi No Go to me.

Clever Cupcakes, The2985 Northern Ave, Unit 109, Coquitlam
I was hoping I'd like them
Submitted Friday, July 23, 2010 - 11:13pm [Dine in]

I really wanted to like these cupcakes. I read the concept and thought great. But, the product has to be more than just a concept.

The cupcakes may be clever but I'm thinking the business plan wasn't. Sadly this place will be gone this time next year. They have a huge space that is mostly empty save for a few tables and chairs. No one was using them. When I went in with my daughter they had only about 6 flavour of regular size and 6 minis. We chose to get 6 minis to try more flavours. Well the minis REALLY are mini. They also were dry, and the entire top was not covered with iicing. The icing was no kind of buttercream I've ever had and strangely spongy or gel like. They white cakes all had a cinnamony or spice flavour background,

Back when "muffins" became popular they quickly transformed to be less and less like muffins and more like cake without icing. Well these "cupcakes" are the exact opposite. They have the texture of an old fashioned muffin that your grandmother would make and I mean not ones for company. It's just dry and muffiny and not cake like at all and then has a centre dollop of the odd icing.

I felt ripped off . If I go to a cupcake place I want a cupcake. I don't want a "healthy" cupcake because that does not taste good. The "introductory" prices might seem low, but the cupcakes are VERY small. they say they have half the sugar of regualr cupcakes. That wouldn't be hard to do as they also have half the cupcake of regular cupcakes.

As you can tell I think I wasted my time. I won't be back. I wonder what store will open in this location next?

Totally awesome In a Gross greasy kind of way
Submitted Monday, June 7, 2010 - 8:56pm [Dine in]

I had a honey donut. It was $1.50. It was not superfresh but still slightly warm. It tasted like it was deep fried in oil that was not hot enough for too long. Super super super super greasy and heavy. The sweet part did not taste like honey thank goodness because I hate honey. It was just super super sweet. I thought one was good in a bad way. Two would have been heave-inducing. Verdict - perfect hangover food.

Just because they call it gelato and put it in those trays with decorations on top does not mean it is either gelato or good. This stuff is cheap ice cream dosed out in small portions for average price. The one I had was all grainy like bad ice cream. It was not smooth like GOOd gelato. The flavor was ok. My kid did not like hers or finish it. Nuff said.

Huge Breakfast disappointment
Submitted Sunday, May 9, 2010 - 8:54pm [Dine in]

Went to Milestones for breakfast thinking they would have breakfast food at 9:30 am. I asked and was told yes they have breakfast food. My kids were given menus with grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese etc. I had to ask and then the waitress said yes they had kids breakfast - French toast only. But, it was not even on the menu.

This was breakfast, not a noon brunch and they got the french toast, I had to order and pay for hashbrowns on the side, which were HUGE hunks of potatoes and they covered them in salsa! They were so disappointed and wouldn't eat them. Why would they cover kids potaotes is salsa? Just stupid. THey then were brought ice cream sundaes for breakfast! WEIRD and not what I wanted my kids to eat at breakfast. They would have eaten the fruit that came with their meals, but both the strawberries and cantaloupe were so underipe, they were inedible. Those meals rang in at $9 each!

I had the shrimp benedict and the shrimp were hard cold and old and obviously left over from last night. The English muffin was so hard on the underside, I could not cut it and the egg and hollandaise portion was ice cold. THe hollandaise sauce had a weird flavour too. I too did not like the potatoes. That goodie was $13

I ended up paying well over $40 for a nasty breakfast. That's a real scam they have going there. I seriously would have preferred McDonalds and I would have had a much better meal.

Never had a really bad experience here , it's always ok.
Submitted Sunday, April 18, 2010 - 7:41pm [Dine in]

Never great but never bad. Food is a little overpriced. Some dishes more than others. My friend asked for her bacon well done and it was almost raw so it had to be sent back. The service was attentive at first bur got worse as the time went on but stil not too bad. We waited a really long time for dessert and finally someone came and said that they ran out of ice cream and had to go to the store for more. That was weird. After a long wait the dessert my friend's order came and we didn't have to pay for it. The kids we were with were told that they were giving them strawberries and whipped cream for free until their ice cream(which is included in the kids meals) came. They never did get any even when the other dessert came. When the bill came, we were told the kids desserts were on the house too, but I now realized that they are included in the meal and nothing was taken off, so really they were not free and they did not get what they wanted.

A different Starbucks
Submitted Saturday, April 17, 2010 - 9:58pm [Dine in]

Starbucks are all the same. Every once in a while you find one somewhere that has a cool vibe with cool people. This is one of them. Kind of the middle age intellctual group for a change. No one had their face piered. I actually stayed when I don't usually stay in Starbucks just to people watch and eavesdrop. Coffe was the same which is neither good nor bad. I stick to either a latte, Pike place or an AMericano. The rest of Starbucks coffee is burnt and dodgy.

Long wait for average food
Submitted Saturday, April 17, 2010 - 9:49pm [Dine in]

I went in there and ordered a falafel wrap. I waited almost 15 mintues for it at about noon on a weekday and I was the only customer. What should have been my first clue. The place is in dowtoen Victoria and was empty. The staff outnumbered the customers and I still had to wait. Falafel was not a real falafel but edible and overpriced. They also sold some kind of hot chile chips that were SO hot they were inedible. I have never found anything so hot it was inedible before. The chips were also expired by 3 months. I would not return. Hello - check your expiry dates.

Submitted Saturday, April 17, 2010 - 9:44pm [Dine in]

I went in there one day as I hear it was good. I waited and waited and waited. WHen it was finally my turn I asked what vegetarian sandwiches they had. The guy said this was a deli. I said I know and and repeated my question. He looked at me like I had 4 heads. He asked me what kind of meat I like- I said none - I wanted a veggie sanwich. He looked and me like I had 5 heads. I left.

I love this place! I've been here at least 10 times and never have I been disapointed. They have a small regular menu and great daily specials. I do not always like everything on the special board but everytime I go one thing just jumps out at me and is exactly to my taste. If you make reservations they will give you the best table they have. The food to me tastes like Lumiere food for $20 a plate. Spectacular. Desserts are their weak point in my opinion, but the stilton plate is amazing if you're in the right mood. Go there right away, just don't take my table and keep your mouth shut so it doesn't get too busy! Everytime I go there I feel like I'm at my friend's house after they've returned from a fancy cooking school sabbatical.

This place is the ultimate example of how sucess corrupts. Vince and his family used to make great gelato. Great flavours, friendly service, a real family business. Unless they've married into a Chinese family, the family aspect is gone along with the friendly Italian service. Last time I was there, Vince who has known me for 20 years looked through me as if I were a stranger and barked "you must prepay". Prepay for icecream?? Weird. I wish i had not paid at all. Too many odd ball flavours and not enough tasty ones. That is why the people all complain about ice in the ice cream. They have way too many flavours and not enough turn over.

I heard when Martha Stewart came here to tape her show she wished she hadn't - I can see why.

Sushi wrapped in plastic that tastes like...well sushi wrapped in plastic.
Submitted Saturday, April 17, 2010 - 9:16pm [Dine in]

Fast grab and go if you're in a hurry and this place will do. You only get one soy sauce and they charge for extra and an tiny extra blob of fake wasabi is 50 cents. BURN.

Sushi here is average at best and really has a LOT of rice compared to fillings. The prices therefore reflect that. So it's not so much good value for sushi as it is average value for rice. They have a micro wave and small seating area but who wants to nuke Japanese food? The tempura gets all soggy.

I used to completely LOVE this place. A few years ago the owners must have changed and the menu became more Indian and less falafel. The falafels completely changed for the worse and I have stopped going. Funny the service is just a bad as ever. The bathroom is gross and is unfortuately cleaner than the restaurant - nuff said.

I've gone here on and off for many years. It never really changes. Good selection of meat and cheese as well as great condiments. Not much in the way of veggies and I LOVE lots of veggies on my sandwich. It certainly is one heck of a lot better than that gross rip off Subway. If I'm in the area and need lunch it's a go to place.

Best Pizza EVER in the WHOLE world
Submitted Saturday, April 17, 2010 - 8:15pm [Dine in]

I come out here and have pizza a LOT with my sister and her family. They are well known there and we feel like family when we walk in. This restaurant in actually in PORT Coquitlam, not Coquitlam.

Some people complain about the prices and they are higher than those cheap chain pizza places for a reason. Everything is fresh and top quality! The crust is amazing, thin, crispy and way better than those dough beds other pizza joints use. They have amazing combos and if you order a 4 or more topping pizza, you could have every sigle topping in the place on it and it would not cost any more! The staff is superfriendly and efficient and teh restaurant and pizza reminds me of going to Shakey's pizza as a kid. Great food, awesome fireplace, retro memories and the game's always on too. WInner combo!

I often take associates from other offices here when they are out of town. It is a good middle of hte road fake kinda Thai place. However, the lunch specials are reasonalbly priced and we can each get out for well under ten bucks. No one has ever raved, but no one complains either. It is very reliable, fast and convenient.

I heard other people say they got sick from there too, so be warned. Maybe the health depratment wants to go there.

Submitted Saturday, April 17, 2010 - 7:58pm [Dine in]

Went there in February for lunch. The buffet was over $10 and I felt totally ripped off and i was hungry when I left. Service was almost nil.

The food was a few bad curries in warming trays but it was all cold - health dpt?? I would not eat anythign there that was not cooked so the salad were out. Naan was hard and the papadom things had some nasty seed in them.

All in all I wanted my money back. I get better meals for free when I walk into any Indian temple.

We went there during the Olympics. We heard all the restaurant on 3 road were packed so we went there and it was closer. I used to go there all the time when I was a kid and it had awesome pizza. Turns out it still does. Plus it now has a great Greek menu. The greek food rivaled any greek restaurant in town. And the prices were way better.

The only down side was the place is in desperate need of a reno and it was also empty except for one other table which does not add to the atmosphere, especially during the Olympics. But all it all it was great.

Don't go with a group
Submitted Saturday, April 17, 2010 - 7:28pm [Dine in]

Went there with a group of about 6 people. At first one person asked for separate bills or itemized sections per person with a subtotal. Watiress refused.

It took us about 3 hours to for 6 people to have dinner at this place as the service was painfully slow. We didn't even have appetizers. Waitress was not too knowledgable about the wines either. There was also some weird bus boy I guess who looked like a cross between a bellboy and a train conductor, in a plaid shirt. He looked totally out of place and unprofessional.

Ok so the entrees are all about 16-20 bucks up there. Many were pasta which I find hard to justify in that price range. After ordering food took close to an hour to come. Ordered wine to have with my entree but that came right away - I guess soI'd order another with the meal, which I had to. Ten bucks for 2 inches of wine in a 6" glass.

When the food came it was good, but not as good as expected I think. Most people were a tinge disappointed. No one raved. The people who had pasta and other dishes got normal size servings while one person got one scoop of rice with six small prawns on top for $17. I'd be pizzed.

Everyone had dessert. The preson who had the pecan pie liked his best. Lemon meringue pie was ok and the hazelnut mousse cake was not especially preferred. Everyone had coffee and they kept coming by waitress and odd bu dude asking if we wanted refills. Everyone had at least a couple. When the bill came we had no idea they were charging for refills! No one said that and I have never ever heard of that outside of a a place with a drivethrough.

We finally had to ask for the bill and waited. One person again asked for separate bills and was ignored. When the bill came it was a mish mash all on one bill. We complained and so the busy boy - get this - pulled up a chair, sat at our table for 10 minutes and asked each person what they had and wrote it down by hand. He then disappeared for over 15 minutes. One person had to go feed the parking meter twice while waiting. He then finally came back and handed out the bills. He then processed each credit card painfully slowly on an OLD tableside machine. This took another 15 minutes. So, 45 minutes of our three hours was trying to pay the bill. Stupid and unacceptable.

I would only go there again maybe for brunch with one other person - they cannot handle more than 2 at table it appears.
