When will this chain finally go bankrupt????
Submitted Sunday, August 8, 2010 - 8:51pm [Dine in]

I always say I will never go back but circumstances often make it difficult. I get a lot of gift cards given to me plus I often get guest certificate or cards from the chain to make up for lousy experiences. So, witha guest certificate in hand I tried this Whitespot after a dismal experience at the Marine drive location where the kids pirate packs came with no boat, no coin, a huge beer mug of juice and no explanation. There were also not give the promo 2 for 1 coupons for local attractions as advertised,

This location fared no better. The server was very slow and had to come back and ask the same questions 2 or 3 times. When I ordered dessert I ordered a coffee too. It did not come when the dessert came. I reminded her. It still did not come. It was of course on the bill and I had to get to her take it off. I gave my guest certificate with the bill to pay. It was for $30 and said it excluded payment for alcohol. It did not say thatit did not include payment for tax. It appeared to be worth $30 toward the bill nor did it say it was for only one transaction. When I got the bill back she had taken off only the amount of the food, no tax and there was a a large difference between what the value was and the amount. Nothing was said so I basically lost the rest of the amount. I once AGAIN did not receive the 2 for 1 attraction coupons nor was I offered any. I had seen her offer them to 2 other tables earlier.

Also, the food I had packed up was all packed together so some dip (no lid) spilled all over the kid`s grilled cheese(went into garbage) and the side of coleslaw that was left was over 1 cup and all I got was some teeny little dip container full. . The kids said the cold leftover fries tasted like raw chicken.

What a rip off this place is - hope I learn this time.

For a quick sit down with kids it was preety darn good for the location. Beats the heck outta fat burger and probably costs less. The food was certainly edible although the entrees we a little too high in price by about a couple of dollars. Pizza was really good condering it wasn't a pizza place. The coffee was not good but really that's about it.

If you're in a hurry and don't want take out, I'd say this is a good bet in this part of town

Truly a victim of its own success
Submitted Sunday, July 25, 2010 - 11:54pm [Dine in]

I don't know where people get the idea that this place has changed owners. The Misceo family still owns it. It was once a quaint family business with big dreams. The dreams were materialized and grew. Martha Stewart came. They had finally made it. Then the crash.

I was there last week, and yes there is a lot of chinese writing. Vince isn't stupid. He wants to appeal to the type of customers who want all those weird and odd flavours. I had just the vanilla and it was not even good, never mind spectacular. My former fav white chocolate and cranberry just tasted weird. Gelato is not supposed to be rich . It does not have as much fat as ice cream. it is supposed to be smooth and have not ice crystals. This stuff had lots of ice crystals which is a factor of improper temprature control and too long of storage. With all those flavours, they have to be stored a long time especailly the wierd ones.

I seriously think the new President's Choice ice cream line is much tastier than anything here.

Good New Keg
Submitted Saturday, July 3, 2010 - 10:58am [Dine in]

I don't go to the Keg much as I'm basically vegetarian and there are not many options for me. They have sadly ignored vegetarians at this chain. The Last Keg I went to was over a year ago - the one in Richmond and it was Abysmal.

I was worried that we'd have to wait to get in. We went somewhere between 8:30 and 9 on a FRIDAY night and the place was a ghost town. It was almost weird. I was wondering what was wrong with the place. We went into the bar where there was exactly one other couple. What's going on? There was NO atmosphere due to the lack of customers. I was also disappointed to see that the Keg has moved to the teeny black dress-clad blow up waitresses like Cactus club and Joeys. Is it only young men who spend money there? The waitress however was nice except a little over chatty friendly in a tipseeking kind of way.

We had the flatbread with bocconcini and balsamic glaze(amazing) and the tempura beans and asparagus, also excellent. The drinks were fine and the martini I had was really good but for $8.50 I could not taste any booze.

ANyway the place is nice and is the same as the new one in Burnaby. WOnder why there are no customers though? Maybe the HST. I'd go back for apppies but the entrees at up to over $30 are too steep for me at a suburan restaurant.

GaG - Literally
Submitted Sunday, May 30, 2010 - 9:13pm [Dine in]

We eat falafels alot. We do not eat falafels from this place every again. My husband Gagged literally on his, choked and then vomitted. He said there was something large and hard in it. We did not search to see what it was.

Other than that for $5 each you get a microwaved falafel with iceberg lettuce, tomato and some bottled sauce. We asked for one falfel hot and one med hot. Got one hot one not hot - spice that is, as both were ICe COld inside. YUK.

The place is seriously filthy and the staff do not look like they bathe. This place is nasty.

I don't get the rave reviews here. I've even had people tell me it's the best sushi in Poco and such a good deal. I went and ordered my usualy rolls. The cost was about the same as most other places I go. The taste was about the same as other places I go. The portion was the same as the other places I go. Nothing extraordinary here.

Edible -yes. Incredible - no.

buffet left a lot to be desired for 10 bucks at lunch. There was some salad stuff, cabbage, raw veggies etc. I was with an Indian guy who said only eat cooked and spicy stuff so I'm not stupid. All that was left was a couple of curries, rice, bread and papdums that weren't really great. The bread was in a warmer and hard at the edges. THe only real good curry was the yogurt one. The other bean and peas ones were not great. All of the food was cold even thought it was in a warmer -scary. There were chunks of crunchy rice in the rice container.

Dessert was the not pleasant Indian rice pudding, some kind of dyed yellow candied rice and gulab jamin, that was weird inside. I just had a gulab jamin. I probably ate about $1.50 of food, but I got to pay $10. If I ever had to go there again I'd order off the menu.

I also remember this place being busy, but it was dead. Mostly white people. All in all, not good signs.

Good everyday sushi place!
Submitted Tuesday, April 6, 2010 - 3:34pm [Dine in]

I went in for a quick lunch alone and did not feel out of place at all. THe menu was varied, good combos and service was good. The sushi was very fresh and delicious! The seaweed for some reason seemed a bit chewy though and I've not expeienced that before. But all in all it was a good reasonably priced lunch. However, the music was too loud and it was weird having rock music in a sushi place. I would definately go back.

I needed one to pay for my lunch. I got a salad from the salad bar, a cookie and a drink and it was $20!!!!! I could go to a nice sit down place and have a glass of wine for that. They used to have shrimp on the salad bar but no more. Really i could make a similar salad at home for much less. I LOVE soup and yet the soup flavours there hae never interested me. The premade blue cheese and candied nut salad with craisins used to be good but I HAVE NO idea what they've done to the nuts. They seem to have some kind of honey on them that totally burn your tongue like acid.

One time I had a premade sandwich that was camboloza cheese and cucumbers on walnut bread. It was super delish but cost $8 something!!!! for a small normal sized sandwich. The burrito bar is okay but also expensive for very cheap ingreients like rice.

Power cookies are good but I THINK i've perfected the recipe at home.

Good sandwich but not the best
Submitted Sunday, April 4, 2010 - 3:42pm [Dine in]

This place has really good sandwiches and are better it appears if grilled panini sytle. I prefer cold sanwiches so this leaves a bit off for me. They could use a wider selection of bread - not just focaccia - I hate foccacia. Also a wider range of veggies. Condiments and cheese selection were great. For busy weekday service was good and realtively fast. Average value but much better than way overpriced Subway.

Just don't sit outside at the tables next door that are for CAFE CALABRIA or the crazy dude who owns it will come out and totally SPAZ on you.

I keep going back with groups that want to go. I will bail next time. I have always been seated in the storage room in the back, never in the real restaurant. There you can smell the garbage out back as well as the cooks smoking. yUK. The waitresses get a lot of the orders wrong and they often serve one person, and then tow more 10 mminutes later etc. Whenever it's ready it's brought without consideration of the entire party. The sushi is good but the miso soup is over priced for a 1/2 portion and not very good. I don't feel like I've had a good time when I leave.

I like this place. The regular coffee is not very good, but the lattes and espcially the spanish ones are very good. My problem is that if i take a coworker to coffee it should not cost over $14 for 2 coffees and 2 selections from the pastry case. That's just way too much.

For one small special coffee everyonce ina while its ok, but quite expensive.

It would be too easy for me to make a bet as to when this place will close down. It's not a matter of if, just when and I'm guessing sooner rather than later.

Back in the day - or at least 10 years ago this place was always busy, had pretty good food and was a nice place to go. Yesterday I walked in on a Sunday morning for the first time in years to find exactly 5 customers. Now, you would expect that a Sunday morning would bring in people to linger over coffee, relax and chat. Not at this industrial nightmare.

I went to the counter and looked at all their items set out in the display case and it reminded me of a vending machine. The items were $6 or $7 and up and all looked factory made. I did notice that alot of the items like salads that used to be in large colourful bowls with serving spoons were now in small tupperware like conatainers with plastic wrap on them. I guess so they can quickly put it away at night after no one orders it.

I waited almost 5 mintues to have my order taken as the dude was busy opertaing the panini press and other complex tasks, but I'm not sure who the food was for as the other customers were getting ready to leave. Finally I ordered a breakfast wrap. It was removed from the vending case and rapidly nuked. I ordered a regular coffee too. The wrap was ice cold in the middle and consisted of a few tablespoons of scrambled egg, a few teaspoons of frozen hashbrowns (like from the gocery store - even had those few little black pieces in there that I always remove, a tablespoon of preshredded cheese wrapped up in a small white tortilla. Ingredient cost maybe $0.50 - Bread Garden price &4.25. It was served with a couple of tablespoons of jarred salsa in a platic cup with the plastic lid still on. I used to have these along time ago and they had fresh potatoes and were hot and oozing with cheese. This was a disaster and was absolutely tasteless. I was going to wash it down with the coffee but after my first taste realized they had made a mistake and filled my cup with floor sanitizer or perhaps it was water left in the cup from the dishwasher. Either way it wasn't coffee.. You would think a bakery/cafe could make a decent cup of coffee. NOt even decent, at least drinkable- this was not. I went to the counter to find out if this was the way it was supposed to be or see if I could get some other coffee. I waited again over five minutes while 2 of the 3 employees stood at the prep counter "prepping??" with their back to me. In 5 minutes they never turned around to see if there were any customers. I was now outnumbered by employees 3 to 1 and could still not get any help, on a Sunday morning nearing noon in a busy shopping mall. I think that says it all. I left the full cup on the counter and walked out. They never even turned around to wave good bye. I will never walk into that mess again.

...by the staff. Was made to wait 10 minutes on a Tuesday night when most tables were empty. Must be because I was alone. Had a discount bellini - very good. Waited to order quite a while. Two tables of 3 across from me got their food 10 minutes before I did even though I ordered first. Waitress said she'd be "right back with water" she never was. When my food was delivered it was by some kitchen lackey and not the waitress. No one asked if I would like another drink. So, I did not order one. I sat infront of an empty plate for over 10 mmintues before the waitress returned and exclailmed "WOW - I've NEVER seen anyone finish that whole thing" She dropped my bill off and added "I was sure you wouldn't finish, no one does, so I thought you wouldn't want dessert, but maybe you do". i had not eaten since a small bowl of cereal at 6 am - it was 8 pm - she might have just as well rang a bell and called me a hog. The food was good, but I left very embarrassed. What is wrong with people?

Ihave eaten a lot of pad thai. I have eaten a lot of bad pad thai. This was REALLY BAD pad thai. They would not have dared serve this to a eat in diner. It would have been sent back. I opened my take out container and the smell was that of being down wind of a rotten beach on a blustery day. I tried one just incase and began gagging immediately I threw the shrimp in the toilet and tried the noodles. Too bad but the nasty prawns and infiltrated the whole dish. Didn;t really matter because the noodles were swimming in oil and had no flavor of their own at all just the gross prawn smell. All into the toilet. Me hungry and out $13.50 - no discount for take out. NEVER go there. Trust me.

Went on a weekenight and had a set menu they had. It was $39 or $29 with a coupon.

It was not busy and mostly everyone got a view table. But the service really should be much better. Waitress was pushy at first and then never seemed to be around.

Lentil soup with curried croutons was good but nothing I couldn't make my self. Scallops were good.
The rice was nastly and gummy, not even edible. The mashed potatoes good. Rockfish was tasty but almost cold while the ahi tuna was terribly diappointing. They obviously did not have the real chef there that night. The dessert of bread pudding and caramel and pear was nice. Not bad for $29 but this whole place is more hype than substance. Never go here without a coupon.

This place must have changed owners. The nice awesome sushi dude who was always there is no longer. Always a changing cast of characters who don't seem to know what they're doing.

I went in on a busy CHristmas shoping day after noon. The lone dude there looked stunned that I wanted sushi and said he could make something easy, and something about he was late. I should have left.

I got home and had DAY OLD sushi rice that was almost crunchie and yesterday's fried shrimp in my dynamite roll. Eww. Oh yeah and I had to ask for more soy sauce and got NO wasabi. This place's days are numbered and I'm going elsewhere.

There's nothing like this place in Poco at least for the ambiance. While the fish and chips are good, they're not the best. The grilled cheese for kids was kind of odd. But - They offer veggies burgers and DOGS. I can have a dog with fired onions and watch a baseball game on a warm summer evening, I can walk, take my kids to the park etc. It's a great interactive park and therefore a perfect location. There's the full Pajos menu as well and ice cream. Just skip the coffee - it's paint stripper. All in all THANKS Pajos for being there!

THe retail part is really good and I love the cheese and teh bread they bring in. Just don't make the cashiers angry - I've had a few diagreements with them over prices and they don't take kindly to that.

I think it was supposed to be in there but I was grossed out sufficiently to never return. Why do people have to mess with good stuff like falafels?
