Excellent Thai
Submitted Friday, February 19, 2010 - 9:18pm [Dine in]

My girlfriend and I love to try a lot of different ethnic foods and Thai is definitely one of our favourites. We had heard this place had great Thai food so we went one evening and weren't disappointed. We had the chicken sautays (spelling?) to start and they were fantastic. We ordered a number of different dishes and everything was really good (I especially recall the ginger chicken being outstanding). The jasmine rice was perfect and the portions were a good size. For dessert we had some sort of banana-ice-cream-crepe thingy and it was awesome. For Thai food I would say the price is on the higher side but it's really, really good so maybe that evens things out in the end. We'll definitely go back soon as we had a really enjoyable evening at this restaurant.

Heavy Pizza!
Submitted Friday, February 19, 2010 - 9:00pm [Dine in]

If you're a pizza lover like me then you'll want to try this tiny little place in Newton. It's got just a few tables for dining in and it appears that most of their business is for take-out. I've never tried their souvlaki or pasta but one of these days I probably will. The reason we tend to go back though is the pizza... which weighs a ton due to the ridiculous amount of meat and cheese they pack on the pie. It really is one of the better pizzas I've ever had and it tastes even better reheated the next day. This is definitely our number one choice for pizza in the area.. yum! Oh, and the folks that run place seem really nice too.

Boston Pizza Makes Me Happy
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 1:04pm [Dine in]

I've had a lot of good times at Boston Pizza and this location holds a lot of good memories for me. It's very close by to where I live and I love the fact that it's open so late. Pasta Tuesday is a great night to go.. but then again, every night seems like a good night for Boston Pizza. I can't say I'm actually a huge fan of the pizza anymore due to the heavy amount of grease that I see pooling on top of the cheese, but I love their pasta, strombolis, rice bowls, etc. This is a really great place to go with family and friends and I've always been satisfied with my experiences here. Thanks Boston Pizza!

Excellent Spot If You LOVE Chicken
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:59pm [Dine in]

I go to Nando's restaurants quite frequently since I absolutely LOVE their chicken.. in fact, I would say their chicken is possibly the best I've had (other than my mother's chicken kebabs.. but that's a whole other story). This particular location is small but nice.. very clean and the folks who run it are nice enough. I've always found the pricing at Nando's to be a little on the high side, especially for what you get.. but when you taste the chicken, I always think it's worth it. For me this location is very convenient since I live nearby and I'll continue to go there whenever I get that craving for spicy good chicken!

Wrap Zone7291 120th Street, Delta
Quick n Easy!
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:52pm [Dine in]

I frequent the Wrap Zone maybe a couple of times a month and it's always a good, quick little lunch that's reasonably healthy. Personally I usually get the Mexicali wrap with turkey and the smaller size is usually lots for me. The bigger size is really big and you'd have to be pretty hungry to finish it all. This location is usually reasonably busy and sometimes can be real busy with the lunch crowd. I find it a good alternative to other fast food joints and much better than Subway (in my opinion). What can I say.. I like it, it tastes good and I'll go back frequently... it has my vote!

I'm A White Spot Kinda Guy...
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:47pm [Dine in]

If you're from BC you already know exactly what the White Spot is all about. I was raised on triple-O burgers and pirate packs as a kid and as an adult I still frequent White Spots all over BC very regularily. This particular White Spot on Scott Road is like most of the others... great food (mmm burgers!), nice employees, good value and a fun atmosphere. Both of my grandparents were HUGE White Spot people and, not surpisingly, my father and mother were both raised on White Spot as well.. my brother and cousins were all raised on White Spot.. and I hope to, very soon, make sure my young son gets his fill of White Spot... that's four generations of family that all love, trust and enjoy this place. Without getting too ridiculous, I believe the White Spot has been much more than a restaurant to my family.. it's also been a part of our family culture/ tradition and a (relatively) important part of our upbringings. I hope it stays around for a long time.. I know it's only a restaurant, but it's also holds another meaning to us that maybe I can't quite put into words...

De Dutch Pannekoek House7310 120th Street, Unit 110, Surrey
I Love Pannekoeks
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:36pm [Dine in]

I frequent De Dutch in Strawberry Hill at least once a month and what I love about it is that you always know what you're getting... the pannekoeks are great, the omelettes are awesome, the presentation of fruit on the side is really cool, etc. I usually only go here as a breakfast place but occasionally we go in the afternoon or in the evening. I prefer the breakfast menu but some of the other non-breakfast meals look pretty good. I think consistency is a major selling point of the De Dutch restaurants and this one is no different.. when we go in we know what to expect.. great food, at decent prices with decent service. Good enough for me!

I'm Kind Of Split On This One...
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:16pm [Dine in]

After only one experience I can say my girlfiend and I weren't overly impressed but I want to give it another shot because the food that we tried was pretty darn good. Our server was a tool.. is that being mean? Well, he was.. what can I say! He was a tattooed younger kid who seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else... my girlfriend had asked him if she could have a particular vegetarian meal with a little bit of chicken added to it and he replied, "No, I don't think we can do that" and just stared at her blankly. Who doesn't add some chicken to something and then just charge you extra?.. it was very apparent he just didn't want to do it. (I think it actually said somewhere on the menu that you could sub items for other things, etc.) The food was good although I think it's definitely over-priced. I had one of the medium-hot sizzlers and the chicken was great.. the fact that it came with french fries seemed kind of bizarre for a place that markets itself as higher-end. My girlfriend's butter chicken was FANTASTIC (spicy!) and there was plenty left over to take home. All in all I think we'll try this one again and I'll get a better feel whether it's worth frequenting or not.. so call me undecided..

Sandar's Thai Garden7500 120th Street, Unit 105, Surrey
Good Little Neighbourhood Thai Place
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:06pm [Dine in]

Sandar's is a tiny little Thai place in a strip mall near The Future Shop in Surrey... but who cares about the location (Ok, not me)! The food is really good (the ginger beef is OUTSTANDING) and the handful of employees who work there are friendly and nice. We often get take-out and the portions are a good size and I think the value is definitely there. We like to frequent this little place about once a month and we'll continue to go back. I love small family-owned restaurants like this and it's a shame there's never more people inside... but on the plus side, fewer customers equals a waiter who's more devoted to your own personal service!! This place is a great little spot to bring both family and friends. I know it must be tough to run a small business like this but I hope it can stick around for a few more years.

Presto Cucina2655 King George Hwy, White Rock
Suffering From A Split Personality
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 11:53am [Dine in]

.. not me, the restaurant (although maybe I am too and don't realize it.. which is really neither here nor there). Presto doesn't seem to know whether it's fast food or a sit-down eatery and this can create problems (which I will get to). The food has always been good and some of the pasta dishes are really great. The pizza is an excellent thin-crust type of pizza. The gelato bar is lots of fun in the summer. The problem that I and some of my friends have had is the confusion over tipping... this is a MacDonald's type restaurant in the sense that you go up to the counter and order your food (obviously the ambience is a lot nicer than a MacDonal'ds though). Would you tip in a MacDonald's? Most likely not. But I think you're probably expected to tip at this place... I say this because after eating here a number of times the girls behind the cash register give us the nastiest glares and cold service when we come in now and other than our lack of tipping, we haven't done anything to offend anybody (as far as I can tell). Tipping can be a area of confusion/ contention in any restaurant, let alone one that doesn't really have waiters and waitresses who serve you at your tables.. if you want another drink you go up to the till and pay for it or go refill your pop at the pop fountain. As I say, the whole tipping thing has created a problem and we don't feel we can go to this restaurant and eat comfortably anymore... unless we start tipping the employees... but if I do that then I have to tip the people at Burger King and I don't really want to tip the guy who just made my Whopper and fresh batch of cini-minis... do you see the problem here? Maybe I am just nuts...

Fun Little Family-Owned Restaurant
Submitted Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 11:39am [Dine in]

I've been a number of times and will continue to go to this little gem of a restaurant. Nice folks who work there, great food, good prices and a nice atmosphere. The Greek potatoes are great and the souvlaki is fantastic! The saganaki is really good (in my opinion) and the humous and satziki are both terrific. A fun place to go with friends and family!
