The three appetizers for the price of two is not
Submitted Tuesday, September 4, 2012 - 2:01am [Dine in]

I think the amount of food in that platter is way less than if the three apetizers were ordered separately.

They should review this because there are many customers like me who just look for an excuse to never go back to a place; We are so lucky after all in Vancouver with the many great restaurant choices.
If anyone ordered the spanakopita for $10, how many pieces did you get? We got two; How about the potato coquettes? I think we got four. as for the calamari, we did find a fiew pieces among the chillies!

But other than that, it was a good experience. Great salmon burgers, clean environment (spotless washroom) and cheerful but somewhat slow service; She told us they were hit with too many customers at one time. We sat outside and felt comfortable with the heaters on.

As I said, I would not go back but would recommed the place to anyone as long as they don't fall for the "three for two" deal :)

Congee Noodle House141 E Broadway, Vancouver
One of the best family Chinese restaurants
Submitted Tuesday, December 20, 2011 - 11:24pm [Dine in]

I have been there many times and each time we left feeling that we had a great tasting Chinese food. I am Caucasian but I have Chinese friends and they are always impressed with the food. The restaurant is very busy so make reservations and be there on time. My favourite is always their special Congee (with seafood) but their BBK meats are great too. We also had, noodles, fried tofu, Chinese donuts, and others I don’t remember their names. Everything great!

The ambiance is that of a busy, large and obviously noisy place. If you are a group that is going to be talking, you will be fine. If you take a date there hmm… s/he will think you care more about your stomach!

The service is fine. In western restaurants we order food and expect everything in a particular order. In Chinese restaurants everything is to be shared so even if all of you order individual bowls of congee and a number of dishes for sharing, be prepared: Not all congees will arrive first :) Better start sharing the congees using the individual small bowls on the table. More fun anyway since you will get to taste different flavours! Or if you want to wait for your own, start eating from the centre of the table to make the rest feel better so that they don't wait for you. Besides congee is to be enjoyed hot.

The prices are really good. They are the Costco of Chinese restaurants! Definitely not the Walmart :)

Great BBQ!
Submitted Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 1:26am [Dine in]

I had heard of this place so when my kids suggested eating there I was keen to try it. I was not disappointed. The best part was the great BBQ. We ordered a tray with a variety of BBQ meat in it and without exception everything tasted great.

The music and the decor is also nice if you like blues. Just the right volume.

The service was not attentive though but this might be the style of the place; you want something? you go and get it at the counter. We had to go back and forth to get drinks, extra settings, containers for left overs, and even to return the tray when we finished with the meal. I think the waitress they had could (if she was more experienced) had been of more use. Maybe she'l get better with time.

Incidentally I saw an ad that they sell free range smoked turkeys for Christmas for $65.00. If I had to host a dinner I would order one with no hesitation!.

PS the rating is for the BBQ. Better go to a salad bar (The Salad Loop is my favourite) before or after for some good greens.

Rotten pork in fried rice.
Submitted Thursday, December 20, 2007 - 1:08am [Dine in]

I have been in this place a few times over the years and each time I had a enjoyed their food. That was until recently.

I had dinner there with a group of friends. We ordered one of the set meals for 10. Each dish came out and tasted great. The waiters kept taking away used dishes almost after each meal.

All that ended with their last dish that was simple fried rice with salty pork in it. The pork was rotten. It tasted definately rotten the way meat tastes when it is left at room temperature for a week! I ended up spitting everything in a napkin.

Someone screwed up at that place and given its class and prices (over $400.00 for 10) this is inexcusable. I don't care if this only happened for the first and the last time. IT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN; PERIOD. So, I am staying away FOREVER.

A 5 if you like desert!
Submitted Friday, December 22, 2006 - 12:18am [Dine in]

I have been to this place many times over the years. Most of the times we chose the buffet including desert. Take your kid to the desert bar after Nutcracker.

The service has been outstanding each time. Very professional. The food be it salmon or roast beef has always been outstanding too.

This place has been in Vancouver for eons and I only managed to visit them a few months ago. Some of their food is very similar to what you will find in Greek restaurants..dolmah, shishkebab, mousaka etc. We all enjoyed the food and especially the pillow room. Very comfortable and something new.

I have been there many times and have never been disappointed. Their Dim Sum is great but very popular. Make reservations and get there early!. For dinner everything has always been great. My favourite is their special wanton soup. It's seafood based.

The location is great and central...combine the trip with a walk around the Kerrisdale village if you don't live in the area. It's my favourite place in Vancouver.

Could have been A LOT BETTER

I have been to this place twice. The first time a couple of years ago, was a MAEYUENJO party to celebrate a baby's 1st month. They had booked the separate room and had a preset menu. The food then was good. No-one complained and no-one was was saying it was their best meal either.

Then a year ago, I booked my party of about 30 people. It was three tables and each had a pre-set menu for 10. Well...the best part was the service. The food was bland and I felt overpriced. We ended up actually with 26 people so I asked them if it would be OK to have two tables of 10 and a table of six who could order from the menu. Offer refused! We had to split the people among the three tables and pay a higher per person cost than we had planned. The thing is there was no left over food and that was not because it was great but because the portions were small.

The best way to approach Chinese restaurants is to have everyone order their favourite dish or ask a friend who'se familiar with the place to order for you.

Great place for Greek food in Richmond

I have been to this place many times and have never regreted it. In fact the only thing I don't like about this place is that it's too darn popular so its parking lot is always full. Not a bid deal though as there is ample street-level parking.

My favourite is the Kleftiko. It's roasted lamb at its best.

Prices are good and on weekend evenings they have a belly dancer come up. I took my father in law there (he was almost 80) a few years ago and he enjoyed getting up and dancing with the girl and sticking a $5.00 bill in her bra!

I think the only thing that could make this place a 5 is if it were a bit smaller... or maybe not. Maybe it's already a 5!
