It's all good, except the catfish

Someone needs to open a vegan restaurant next door to balance out the karma. The meat is great, the cornbread is usually pretty solid, and I've got a thing for their potato salad.

I've been many times, and the only problem I've experienced is the catfish. True, only a fool would order catfish at a BBQ joint. Now, I've never had good catfish, so I have no real reference point, but this poor fish was a chewy, flavorless, deep-fried mess. I really only mention it because it sticks out as an aberration on an otherwise fine menu. Heed my advice... stick to the mammals and you'll be good.

A classic

No, it's not the most chic spot around, but that's fine... I'm fine if the poseurs stay away. The california rolls here are epic, something like 7cm in diameter and are just loaded. I've yet to find a california roll as satisfying. I believe they must bbq their unagi over a flame, because it comes out slightly charred and amazingly delicious. Again, I've yet to find anything that compares elsewhere. Agedashi tofu is something most places do poorly, but the subtle flavor here is dead on. So many items here have become standards for reference for me, and that's why it's a classic in my book.

Style over substance

Quite simply, the food here is poor. The potstickers were boring. The ginger beef was borderline inedible (something in the sauce must have been burnt). I've had better Chinese food at small town restaurants in the interior. The food does not match the decor nor prices, and I have no doubt there are vastly better options in this city.
