Doesn't get better

the food is AMAZING, the ginger isn't canned, the miso is made from scratch, the sushi options are exciting and pleasing to multiple senses - pretty to look at, delicious to taste. All the ingredients are fresh and of high quality. This is not a place to go if you want a $8 bento box, this is a high quality sushi bar but worth every penny.
The staff is always smiling and very pleasant, you can watch your sushi be expertly made. My favourite by far. Could use some ambiance, but it is more a sushi bar than restaurant.

Try a little bit harder...

Food was OK, standard downtown sushi, nothing exciting, nothing exceptional, not as fresh as I personally like (miso-from-a-box, pre-made sushi, etc). There were four of us, we ordered a sushi platter to share, it came with 1 miso soup, no one even asked if we would want additional soups - how does a group of 4 share a small bowl of miso anyway? No one offered us the complimentary tea, had to ask and then got half cups and that as though it was a favour. Could have done without the attitude from the hostess. She seemed to be in a bad mood, and was vocal about it to her peers, not very discreetly though, everyone could hear. Personally when I am paying someone to serve me food, I don't want to hear about how "you know it's gonna be a crappy day when it starts out crappy" and be brought down by their mood. Also would prefer to hear "could you repeat that" or "I didn't catch that" instead of "What?" from a waitress/hostess in what's hoping to pass for a nice Japanese restaurant. Fake plastic flowers didn't help the ambiance.
Overall, disappointed, expected more from an up and coming, but after my experience I won't go back (there are MANY better Japanese restaurants in Vancouver) and don't expect it to last long.
