My wife and I went there 2 years ago and had a nice meal and offered the coupon at the beginning. The service was OK, the lady was certainly not freindly, just a benign smile...I have been to Thailand, the land of the Smiles...and my wife is an attractive freindly Filipino...we tried several times to engage the waitor in some conversation. The place was empty except for us, and all she wanted to do was read her magazine...so we were not over all impressed to leave a tip...
She gave us a bill, and it included a tip on the full amount and taxes on the full amount, minus the amount for the 2-4-1 coupn from the Entertainment Book....we had an arguemnt about the tip not being compulsory.....She tried to rip us off....so we left cash on the table for the right amount and left....good food but lousy servant!
I walked into this place and immediately didn't feel welcome and had to ask if I could sit down. I am 55 year old clean shaven man. The place was empty. I asked for the menu, and was given a menu. I chose a dinner and when I told the man what I wanted, he said it was not available. There was a language problem for sure.....Anyways.,...I decided to leave as I didn't wish to spend my time or money in this boring little hole in the wall restaurant.
I am not here to knock ABC or any other chain restaurant..... but why do 2 eggs, toast and hashbrowns have to cost over $7.00? Denny's Grand Slams start at $8.49!!! Why do we have drive to NewWestminster to find an inexpensive breakfast diner? I want to go and spend $3.75 and have eggs, sausages, toast and hashbrowns like many of the diners in NewWest...
I have eaten in this establishment many times over the past 5 years, and 5 years ago the prices were absolutly incredibe. Now they are still low, but not incredible. The food is usually well prepared, hot and service is efficient.
However, I had an embarassing moment when one of the owner/waitresses commented that I never leave a tip and I am cheap. I know I am cheap, but dont need a stranger telling me that tipping is compulsary! I might not have so much class but neither do they. I chose to donate to the charity of my choice. That experience kept me from the Austin Heights Dinner for many months.
