Good authentic Korean food
Submitted Saturday, May 3, 2014 - 8:36pm [Dine in]

Went with the girls to Seoul Dookbaegi on a Sunday night. Arrived at the restaurant at 5:30PM to a relatively empty place: only two other tables occupied...but by 6:30PM, the restaurant was busy. Felt really bad for the lone server/cashier/washup lady...she didn't get any reprieve until about 7PMish when other staff showed up. Must give her credit, she did a good job, even though she was handling the jobs of about 2-3 people. The grandma in the kitchen cooked up a Korean feast! Her dishes were truly authentic. The bibimbop came in a clay pot, making the rice nicely scented and slightly crunchy. The seafood pancake wasn't as greasy as I've had in other restaurants and was loaded with shrimp, with just the right amount of crispiness. The dumpling and rice cake soup was light and refreshing. The only miss was perhaps the short ribs could've had a little bit more flavor to it, but it was still good. Looks like you could have big groups there, as they had tatami rooms on the east side of the restaurant. Good place if you're in the mood for something different in the Asian scene.

Awesome ramen!

I would highly recommend Gyo-O to anyone wanting a delicious bowl of noodles, namely ramen. I had the seafood ramen with miso soup base: wonderful broth that complimented the seafood quite nicely. My husband had the seafood ramen with tonkatsu soup, which he found good, but the soup to me was a bit salty. The kids had fried chicken udon: chicken was non-greasy and boneless, udon was good size for the kids, soup was great too as it wasn't strongly flavored. Everything we had tasted fresh. The service was excellent: all the tables were full, but the servers still came around to fill our tea and to ensure everything was to our liking. Staff were very friendly: you get the welcome greeting from everyone as you enter and the farewells as you leave (reminded me very much of Japan). We will definitely be making our way out to Richmond to visit this place again.

Good food for cheap price
Submitted Wednesday, June 24, 2009 - 7:53pm [Dine in]

Went there for lunch with my kids and spouse - my son loved the food and he's a picky eater! Quesadillas were made just to his liking. The food is good and very well priced (it's cheap!). Have to try the limeonada...refreshing slushy on a hot day.
Only minus to this restaurant was the washroom: the men and women share the same one and it was dirty. So, if you could go without having to use the washroom, I would highly recommend this place.
