I heart half price appies!
Submitted Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 2:03pm [Dine in]

Went to Zocalo's last night with 4 other friends. Tuesday nights before 8:30pm is half price appetizers! The food took a little longer than desired but it was really good so it made up for the fact it took a little longer. Everything tasted fresh and good. The sangria was really yummy too! It was really dark in the restaurant and the dark walls made it even seem darker but the artwork was neat. There is also a live DJ as well.

Everything your craving desires...
Submitted Friday, July 18, 2008 - 5:04pm [Dine in]

Got a sushi craving? Head to sushitown! That's what I did and although I had to pre-order because they were so busy with pick-up orders, it was really worth it. The portions are not at all puny (as some other places like sushi garden is) and the prices are decent. I really like how they took the time to make the sushi presentable, some places don't cut the sushi portions equally or they pieces are watery or even falling apart upon picking up.

I definitely would return for some awesome rolls!

left a good impression, will definitely go again!
Submitted Sunday, January 20, 2008 - 10:10pm [Dine in]

My friend and I came across Hapa Izakaya and decided to try it out. It's dark inside but it's a nice warm chocolatey feeling. We were allowed to sit where ever we liked and so we opted for the second floor. We were the only ones upstairs which was nice for us ;) We decided to try the daily tapas specials on their menu. We were delightfully pleased with the quality of the dishes and it didn't take too long for the food to arrive. Presentation was nice as well. Definitely a place to go where you need to savour the food and not rush it down in order to get the full flavour and feel of the food. I would recommend this place for dates and after-shopping snacks!

Good place to book events
Submitted Monday, November 26, 2007 - 12:44pm [Dine in]

I recently held a corporate function at Howie's. We were able to book practically the whole restaurant and dance floor without having to put down any deposit. The owner was really friendly and accommodating with our menu selection for our guests and our budget. He went out of his way to get us a projector screen too. We were able to decorate the place with our own decorations as well. Our event guests enjoyed the food (three course set dinner) and definitely left the restaurant on a full stomach. The atmosphere was nice with the dim lights and flickering orange candles.

Also went there to try out their Sunday Brunch. I thought it was buffet but it was off a menu. The food really hit the spot for me. I would recommend their Chicken and Salsa omlette. Really good.

Not a place to have birthdays
Submitted Tuesday, November 13, 2007 - 2:04pm [Dine in]

I had my 21st birthday there thinking it was a real trendy place to go in Yaletown. Yes it was trendy with modern and creative decor and red dim lighting. However, I cannot complain enough about our service. It was a male server who was wearing regular tshirt, jeans and sneakers (we didn't even know he was our server at first...thought he looked too casual). He knew it was my birthday because my friends told him earlier but he gave us attitude all evening and didn't seem like he cared much to be on the ball. There was probably only 4 or 5 tables that evening and there were three other servers so it wasn't like they were busy. For a birthday, you're supposed to feel special and that the restaurant should do something special about it, well at least not provide poor service. At certain time one of us had to go out and look for our server to refill drinks, who happened to be chit chatting with the girl servers in the back. It really made us feel like we weren't even there or they did not want to serve us. The food was okay but the restaurant left a bad aftertaste in my mouth. never going there again!
