We need more authentic places here.

In a place like the Lower Mainland, where it is so hard to find real, authentic Mexican food, this place is a breath of fresh air. It appears to be family run, has a few grocery items you can get if you need, and serves good, fresh food.

If you're looking for Tex-Mex style stuff (hard shell "tacos" and humongous burritos), this is not the place for you. There are many other places that cater to that. This is real down-home cooking like you would actually get in Mexico.

We have been coming here for over 5 years and have *never* been disappointed. The food is always great, as is the service.

The only reason we don't go that often is because of the price. That being said, you get what you pay for. This is quality worth paying for.

Finally some real BBQ.

I have not found any real BBQ since I moved here many years ago. I have tried the famous Memphis Blues, and have not been that impressed.

Finally, someone is making the real deal. The ribs were fantastic. Nice and smokey, yet not overcooked so as to be dry, and not undercooked so as to be touch. I had the collard greens with that (almost impossible to find here period, let alone cooked properly) and the potato salad, and both were delicious. I don't usually like corn bread, but I ate every crumb of Boonie's version.

The only problem with the place, obviously, is the location (in a curling rink, in Cloverdale). They are planning to move shortly to their own standalone location, which will also allow them to be open weekends. I'm looking forward to it.

Finally...

After Mama Gina's disappeared, I was very glad to finally discover another good Italian restaurant in the area.

It all comes down to the food, and this one was fantastic. I had the Fettuccine Vongole (with clams) and my missus had the Spaghetti and meatballs. Both were delicious. The meatballs actually had lots of garlic and spices in them, as opposed to the bland meatballs one often finds in allegedly "Italian" places.

The only minor downside was the bread. It could definitely have been better. The service possibly could have been faster as well, but who knows how many people were working in the back.

Taste Nice Caribbean Restaurant13448 108 Ave Surrey, Surrey
The real deal.

This is a family-run, authentic Jamaican stop. Everything is cooked fresh and in-house. The patties are the best I've had, period (and I used to live in Montreal, near all the Caribbean restaurants). None of the usual greasy, previously frozen fluorescent yellow mess most places serve. The dough is made fresh in house, and the patties are baked on site.

The escoviched red snapper is my favourite fish dish, bar none. You'll also find the usual Jamaican fare of fantastic jerk chicken, oxtail, along with some curried goat, chicken, beef, or veggie plates.

Don't miss this place, it's a hidden gem.

...Between the last review and when we went. A coworker and I went there at lunch time yesterday. At 12:20pm on a weekday in a foodcourt downtowm, I would expect high turnover, and thus, fresh food.

I had the chicken gyro, which was passable. The roasted potatoes, however, were so dry, they tasted like they were the previous day's leftovers. My coworker had the chicken souvlaki, and it was apparently quite dry as well.

You also only get half a small pita, which is definitely not enough. We went there based on the previous review, but we certainly won't be going back or recommending this place.
