OK, I don't usually submit reviews as I always forget my password to these sorts of sites, but this was such a great dining experience I had to comment. We called ahead and made reservations on a Friday evening, table for two. Parking is difficult and we were surprised by the local traffic in the area, so we parked around the corner and down the block a bit. When we walked in we were immediately greeted, seated, and handed our menu; tea came to the table within a minute. A waitress came to the table and explained the ordering process. We settled on the split hot pot, with clear broth on one side, spicy on the other. The hot pot came within a few minutes and food began coming shortly thereafter. It was all excellent and fresh. The spicy broth was on the spicy side, so it's no for the faint hearted. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal over the course of 1.5 hours and ate a feast fit for royalty. Within a half hour the place was packed with many people waiting out in the entry and outdoors for a table. Friday night in YVR. The place is clean, the service was very good. The only mind issue, which has been mentioned before on this www site, is that there is a separate charge for the broth, which doesn't make sense as most places include it in the price. That said, given that we've paid $25 per person for all you can eat hot pot downtown, it evened out to be roughy the same price. One more thing--the place is clean and has a new feel to it, which makes it much nicer than most similar places. All in all, I'd recommend Fatty Cow any night of the week :-)
As a Greek Canadian, I'm very particular about the Greek food I eat at a restaurant. There are now three Greek restaurants in North Vancouver City, and Symposio is the best in terms of taste ('ousia') and value. My fiancee and I have been there four times since it's opened and we've enjoyed consistently excellent food and service each time. They can be very busy at times so as with any great place, patience is a must, but very much worth any minor wait you may experience if you show up without a reservation. They also do a nice take out of all their menu items. For years I've told people that the best Greek food in the Lower Mainland can be found on the North Shore and I've brought many a foreign visitor to North Van to experience Greek food at the other two more established Greek restaurants in NV City. Symposio now tops my list for 'Best Greek Restaurant' in the Lower Mainland. The chef/owner has been associated with other fine Greek restaurants over the years and this is now his signature 'estatorio.'
Yia sas and 'kali xpovia' :-)
