One of the best restaurant in Vancouver, and one of the most affordable... I've absolutely loved every single meal I've had here. However, the same can't be said for the service. It's a real crap shoot. Some are friendly and timely, others are seriously rude. A few of the servers here obviously haven't gotten over their better than thou teenage angst and have no idea that being a server should include service. The nachos here are the best I've ever had. Tons of toppings. Basically everything here is really affordable, tasty and healthy. I hardly ever find all three at the same time. When I eat here with a friend, the bill is rarely over $20. As for the ambiance, I agree that the hip-hop music can be a little loud, but the quotes are fun. I don't think the owners are pretentious, it's just a part of the restaurants theme.
I really love this place, despite the shitty elevator jazz music playing all the time. I think the owner of this place has a crappy jazz fetish. Anyways, there's lots of really yummy things to order, they have good squeezed juices and fantastic sausages and sandwiches.. there's a cranberry turkey one that's soo good. Only thing not so hot here is their coffee.
The Main is one of the best and most reliably good restaurants in the city. My husband, extended family and friends dine here weekly. I live on Main Street and this place is our first choice. The waitresses are REAL, and not fake friendly because it's a restaurant policy. The previous owner Harry had a fantastic and meticulous eye for everything. Ingredients, ambiance, drinks menu, - all fantastic! The restaurant changed hands in 2010 and some things aren't quite as good but overall the place is still amazing. There is a different dinner feature every night and unlike some restaurants, this one is actually on sale! My favorite dishes are the roast chicken, roast lamb, calamari and any of the pizzas. I think I've been to this place at least 50 times.
I used to go to Cactus Club... that was before I realized there were TONS of cheaper, tastier and more interesting restaurants I could go to anywhere else in Vancouver. It was also before I gave a shit about women being objectified, and unspoken but obviously prejudice hiring policies. It was also before their prices skyrocketed. It's not even like they use organic, local food which would excuse the high prices. Anyways, the food is always the same, and the clientele look like they're all day tripping from Surrey. I give this and all other Cactus Clubs a vote of TOTALLY LAME.
This is one of the best sushi restaurants on Main Street and cheaper than Zipang or Toshi's. Service is great and the food is quite good. It's by far not my favorite sushi restaurant in the city, but they have brown rice sushi topped with flax seeds making it a much healthier option than white rice. I go here the most often now because of the brown rice option. Haven't had their sashimi so can't comment on that. But their rolls and maki are 8 out of 10 and there's tons of stuff to choose from.
