Caffe Barney2528 Main St, Vancouver
Worthwhile!
Submitted Saturday, January 28, 2012 - 10:32pm [Dine in]

Never hurts to look around & experiment, maybe there's a great place to be discovered. 'Barney is a find. One day I'll try the Granville location, but the Main St one is in a super funky area & has lots offer. The crowd was aged 20 - 45, the food good compared to other breakfast/lunch places, & we had great service. Other reviews mentioned noise, & it was loud in there when all the tables were occupied. No surprise there. However, on balance the diner's getting great value for their dollar. They could do with better coffee, but there's a coffee shop next door. They could add fruit to the main plate, perhaps later they will. But they do use real food and make it simply, with generous portions at very competitive prices. I've pencilled this place in - I'll be going back, for sure!

Seb's Market Cafe592 East Broadway, Vancouver
A gem for foodies!

Seb's is a neighbourhood gem, a standby for breakfast or lunch when eating out is desired or necessary. Get there early to avoid line-ups! When the weather's nice in spring & summer, the patio is open, which helps the ambiance ratings. Inside, it can be a bit loud at times, but the food and decent prices considering the high food quality more than make up for this. The service is almost spot-on - attentive without badgering or cloying. Hey to be any better, Seb's would have to charge a lot more. But back to the food! You get fresh, local, & high quality. That's a very tough combo to top. They use homemade, & local where ever possible, including figs from their own trees. No GMOs, preservatives, or chemical substitutes here. No catering to the processed food giants here. It's natural, people, & very good, especially the Bennys & omelettes. Awesome fruit plate. Coffee could be better, but have juice or cappucino. Relax, & enjoy real food, real good food!

Sunshine Diner2649 West Broadway, Vancouver
ambiance doesn't justify cost

Returning to this restaurant after a lengthy hiatus, we discovered the place essentially unchanged from before, but with one very significant difference. The food is still a mix of good bennys and coffee, to mediocre pancakes & syrup. You get decent quality omelettes, & burgers but the table is adorned with cheap substitutes like costco pepper & salt, & low quality sweeteners which contain unnecessary chemicals. The service is truly outstanding. Unless you've paid your bill, when you can expect to be abandoned. The restaurant represented decent value largely because of its staff & wonderful ambiance. However, none of this can compensate for the fact there are cameras mounted on the ceilings all over the place. There is no signage asking for customer approval to be watched and recorded, so I can't recommend this place any longer, sorry folks.
