DOV 08 - Not good enough
Submitted Monday, February 4, 2008 - 8:26pm [Dine in]

I went with 5 other friends on Sunday Feb 3, 08 around 9pm.

We were seated and the place is just gorgeous. We chatted for a while before the server brought an appetizer.

I ordered the caesar salad, which i think is pretty good. It comes with Asiago cheese and bread crumbs. My friends ordered the butternut squash soup and the Salmon. The caesar salad's strength was in the cheese. It was ordinary though. Butternut squash was ok and so was the Salmon. (3/5)

I had lamb cheek for my main and I find it too soft. The kuskus was good, but by the time I had my 4th bite, it became too mushy. The lamb's texture wasn't hard enough to act as meat. (2/5)

Finally, the desert, which is the toffee was just ok. My friends think it is too sweet, but I think it is just ok. (3/5)

Overall service was solid, nothing wrong with it. Just the food... Maybe because I put high expectation on one of the most popular restaurant in Vancouver.

Oh, last but not least, I think it would be great if you come with your significant other (preferable in couples) during Valentine's day.

Outstanding DOV 2008
Submitted Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - 12:33am [Dine in]

I had dinner with 3 of my friends on Monday Jan 28. When we arrived, they told us that we had to wait for a couple of minutes since they need to prepare the table. We waited for about 15 minutes or so. This service level pulled down our expectation of the service right before we start eating.

Ok, I guess we're here for the food, so we ignored that fact. We were sat next to the kitchen, so we can pretty much see what the chef is doing etc. So the atmosphere wasn't great, it was just ok.

Duck confit - too salty, but the size is big for an appie, plus the vegetable beneath it was good
Tuna - nothing special except the texture. Sun dried tomato blend quite well with the tuna and potato

ENTREE: (4/5)
Sole - simply great and it was well prepared
Pork - a bit oily, but the size was decent and it tasted great
Scallop - only 3 pieces combined with a wonderful risotto - LOVED IT

Mouth watering Brownies (4/5)

Overall, we enjoyed the food, but not the service.

Not good enough service

Me and my friends went there on Thursday Jan 24 (more than 8, so the service tip was added onto the bill).

I tried the Salmon and Beef Carpaccio for appetizer. There's only six of them (3 salmon 3 beef). The Salmon was ok (a bit bitter and not as fresh as i thought), the beef taste good but the texture was a bit too tough. (2/5)

For entree I had the Cod, which is good. The size was adequate and it melts in your mouth. I liked it. (4/5)

As for the desert, I tried the green tea creme brule. The sugar layer on top was not enough to balance the taste of the green tea. It was too light for me. (2/5)

Our meals do not come together (about 3 mins apart), but I am ok with that. The service was ok, they filled the water before we asked and come once in a while to ask how we are doing.

We were taking pictures at the end (after we paid our bill) and one of the waitress kept on saying thank you (with an unfriendly tone, I guess to tell us to just go). I think that was the only part I don't like. (I had to lower my point from 4 to 2 for service, I guess if you come in a group of 2, it will be ok).
