Smoking Dog Bistro, The1889 W 1st Avenue, Vancouver
Love the Dog!
Submitted Sunday, January 31, 2010 - 8:24am [Dine in]

Great little local spot - have been there several times lately for late lunch and the Sunday dinner special which for $20 includes prime rib, yorkshire pudding, starter and dessert. House wine for $5 a glass - right sized portions and bistro ambience make it a great value. Smoking Dog is not trying yo be anything other than what it is - a relaxed, casual local bistro. -- it's now a regular for us == go dog!

"Authentic" English Pub
Submitted Saturday, January 23, 2010 - 3:06pm [Dine in]

If 'authentic' means slow and poor quality this is the place! We were there for just over an hour -- for eggs. My wife ordered the quiche - it was cooked in england and sent via boat where it was kept warm under lights when the chef here could finally put his touches on it by baking it again for a few hours -- read 'dry, over cooked and flavourless'. I ordered the omelette which was ok - I was expecting incredible as it took over half an hour to make. My parents ordered the eggs benny which they said was great. All 4 dishes came with a limp, rusty, overdressed salad that was un -edible. Undercooked potatoes rounded out the experience.
waitress did her best to cover for what is an incompetent kitchen. Never agin.

Change the name to Captain Highliner's Fish Stick Grill
Submitted Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 8:35am [Dine in]

My wife and I ordered the 'halibut encrusted in potatoe' - but we got a Captian Highliner fish stick gooped in Heinz tartar sauce - I am not kidding. Caesar salad was drowning in a decent dressing along with one crouton. Our friends ordered the grilled steak - said it was 'nothing special' but both were not cooked to order - in a supposed 'Steak House' I would expect some basic ability to test the doneness of a steak. The desserts are store bought (we figured costco) and doused in spray can whip cream.
We asked twice for the music to be turned down - Frank Sinartra 'My Way' played twice and gospel rock at 90 decibals forced us to shout across the table. while they did turn the music down twice, they also turned it back up 3 times.
A complete, utter waste of time and money. Fish sticks in tartar sauce?? Are you kidding me?
