One of the better ones

I never even noticed this restaurant before, despite driving down that street many many times. I tried it out after reading the reviews here and must say that I was impressed.

The upscale decor, friendly staff and quick service only added to the enjoyment.

I tried the Samosas which were fine... average. Also had Chicken Vindaloo and Butter Chicken with both garlic and regular naan and was surprised that they were actually two completely different (and both tasty) flavours, mind you, it should be this way but unfortunately, MANY other indian restaurants use the same curry base with a variety of dishes, making them taste very similar... So I was happy with that.

The only fault I could find is that the chicken vindaloo was very oily, this is like many other Indian restaurants around here, but nevertheless, I enjoyed my meal.

Value: Food was priced on par with other restaurants but has very generous servings, so I gave them 4 stars. I just wish their price for chai included free refills like some other restaurants.

Don't dine in.

These guys are primarily accustomed to catering/take-out but they do have a few tables for you to dine-in...

Every piece of cutlery I was given and even the table itself was dirty, caked on food or just a greasy film on it. I should've left at that point but it was late and I was hungry... The benches that you sit on aren't very comfortable either.

The food itself tasted 'decent' but it was very oily and that ruined it for me.

I have had them cater a small party before and again, the food was decent and they're pleasant to deal with over the phone (but don't expect them to be at your table side when dining in) but again, the food was oily... at least you can avoid the oil floating around in such a large dish though. Good value.

2 strikes... yer out

2 stirkes meaning, I've gotten food poisoning twice from this restaurant, and I've only ever eaten there about 4 times.

On one occasion, I dropped by for the lunch buffet, and although I was starving and wanted to eat more, I was significantly slowed because of the restaurants desire to only bring a couple small pieces of naan to my table at a time, and that split between 4 people did not last long at all... and after asking a few others, I found out that this was to be expected during the buffet hours... Needless to say, I was not impressed.

A lot of their curry dishes taste nearly identical (assuming they have the same meat) because I'm assuming they use the same curry base for each of those dishes... meaning if you'd tried one chicken curry dish, you've tried them all. Also, the curries are also very bland and are not at all what Indian food should be, which is full of spices and flavour

The ambiance was pleasant and I have no complaints, the restaurant seemed clean, the servers were polite and minus being slow with the naan during buffet hours, were fine.

Overall, assuming you haven't gotten sick from the food, this place is 'alright', but I gave them one star for food just because I think it's unacceptable to get food poisoning twice in a restaurant when I've only visited it a few times.

Excellent food but... why so dim?

This place is by far my favourite Indian restaurant in the lower mainland (mind you there are still a couple highly rated places I've yet to check out)

Every time I've gone, the food has always been absolutely perfect and although their style of cooking is a bit different from the average Indian restaurant, it works very well and each dish seems to have a unique flavour.

Reading the other reviews for this restaurant, I seem to always be lucky with the service as I have zero complaints, my water/tea has always been kept topped up and server's have always been polite and pleasant to deal with.

As far as other Indian restaurants are concerned, the prices here are slightly higher and the serving sizes are a bit smaller, but I've yet to go home hungry. The only small complaint I'd have is wishing the bowl that my lamb korma arrived in was a bit wider so it'd be a bit easier to chop the pieces of meat up... for easier eating.

And what's the deal with the lighting? It's definitely way too dim! But that said, the decor is tastefully simple and everything is kept very clean.

Decent food but I wouldn't recommend it

First off, the decor of this restaurant is absolutely terrible and is rarely kept tidy, which always makes me wonder about how clean their kitchen is...

As far as service goes, I've been here 5 or 6 times in the past (because my parents enjoy the food) and it has always been just a single waitress working, meaning it takes a LONG time for your order to get taken/to get your drinks refilled/to get the bill/anything. She does have an amazing memory as others have mentioned, but on one occasion she didn't bring the soda I had ordered with my dinner until I was nearly done my meal... at which point I just said I didn't want it anymore.

Food: The food is reasonable, it's not something I crave or that makes me feel satisfied afterwards, but I've yet to get sick from it (which can't be said for a lot of other indian restaurants in the area) and although the dishes are generally too oily for my taste, the naan is always very good and the food tastes as you'd expect it, never exceeding expectations. The butter chicken often has way too much of a tomato-like taste to it and any other chicken curry dish is guaranteed to taste very similar (probably using the same base for the sauces)

Overall, if the family doesn't feel like cooking but wants indian food, this is an option, although I'd never take friends (who want to try indian food) here since it's not a good indication of what authentic Indian food is... and the terrible service and ambiance always puts me off from the dining experience.
