Beautiful French Restaurant

I must say I went with a friend who is the same age as myself, 24, and it can be intimidating to go to a fine dining restaurant like this one. But I think what made this experience so great is that our server made US feel comfortable.

We started with an appertif, then appetizer, wine, entree, and ended with a dessert. Everything was delicious! The appertif was this nice sweet refreshing fruity wine, appetizer frogs legs!, entree beautifully seared and seasoned duck breast, and dessert was a special feature but if you EVER get the opportunity to try it do so!

The dessert was 2 dark chocolate crepes served warm, filled with a hazelnut chiboust, drizzled with dark chocolate sauce, and a small scoop of orange gelato. O M G.. from then on I fell in love with the combination of dark chocolate and orange.

Now our bill did shock us a little, but was worth it, and hey what do you expect? You are dining at a fine dining french restaurant.

My Idol

Thomas Haas is my idol! A very talented man that produces the best desserts I have ever had.

The place itself is small and more some somewhere to take something to go. It's also unfortunate that they are only open during business hours (closes at 5)

Try anything, you'll love it! My favs are the croissants that are baked fresh daily, superb desserts, sparkle cookies, gelees, and his famous chocolates.

A bit pricey but soooo worth it!

Great Pasta

I've been to Cafe Luxy 4 times now. Each time I've tried a different pasta dish and have been extremely happy with it. The portions are very generous for its price especially that it comes with a small caesar salad and garlic bread. The pasta itself is just so fresh and sauces are delicious. However for some good there is some bad; in this case the service. Maybe it was us, but each time we were served by the same woman, and she is not very polite, not attentitive, and not friendly. It may be because they are short staffed and always busy.

I tried their "famous" tiramisu - and i love desserts - but for that price i could've done without. (sorry!) Anyways, just go for the pasta! Be careful too, there is a charge if you substitute a short pasta for a long pasta (ex: penne to linguine)

try the lemon tart

3 of my friends and I went to Feenie's on a June Wednesday evening, it was busy, and luckily we had reservations. I had been twice before; the first time the food and service were mediocre, and the second time the food was much better but the service was MUCH MUCH worse. But this review is about my 3rd visit.

for a drink I had the Diablo - a very unique drink that had some heat with it (i liked it)
the appetizer was next, Blue Crab Napoleon - this one was disappointing. all it was was cold crab salad quenelles (which were poorly shaped) layered with puff pastry. the plate was decorated with edible petals and a smear of balsamic reduction of sorts. personally i hate edible petals as decoration.
the entree was quite pricey, understandably so for the ingredients, and the quantity was a bit small for my liking, it was Duck Confit Shepperd's Pie. MMMmm... my 2 favourite things combined in 1: Duck Confit & Truffles (infused into the mashed potatoes).
Dessert was DEEEEELICIOUS Burnt Lemon Tart, with Candied Ginger Gelato, and Beet Compote. (i am a pastry chef and i truly thought this dessert was a great!)

As for my friends' plates here are my comments:

- the poutine was WAY too big!
- the apple tart was just drowned in caramel sauce (which isn't a good thing)
- the chocolate cake was not very tasty
- the beef tartar was SUPERB

and the service was good this time around, a bit ditzy, but good.
