Quite tasty
Submitted Saturday, May 17, 2008 - 11:57am [Dine in]

Have been here several times for both lunch and dinner and have yet to be disappointed. My fav is the chicken pita wrap, it's got a very generous portion of breast meat. The souvlaki dishes are all delicious, the meat is grilled well and the rice and potato are quite palatable. The greek salad is fine, but doused in too much olive oil my liking, it usually leaves a puddle at the bottom of the plate. Never had a problem with service, the place is small, so it feels a little cramped as the tables are quite close to each other. Give this restaurant a try if you're into greek food.

I frequent this place once in a while and the food is consistently delicious. What's more, they're priced pretty well too. The nigiri and rolls are all well made, fresh and costs less than many places of comparable quality. Selection is very good, there are usually specials. The lunch combos are a great bargain. The bbq items are flavourful and seasoned right. I've never had problems with service here, efficient and professional. Recommended for people who enjoy sushi.

Mouth watering...
Submitted Saturday, February 2, 2008 - 4:48pm [Dine in]

I wasn't expecting much when I first went there, the place didn't look like something out of the ordinary, but was I wrong! The Bi Bim Bap is a MUST TRY! It is served scorching hot in an authentic stonebowl, be careful or you'll burn yourself. The rice is heated to a crisp with the heat from the bowl, and the toppings are all delicious too. The spicy chicken is another must have for spicy food connosueirs, its served on a hot plate with generous amounts of chicken. No lack of flavour in there. You should give this place a try if you're a fan of korean food. The food served here is pretty difficult to top.

Terrific dim sum
Submitted Wednesday, January 2, 2008 - 6:10pm [Dine in]

Of all the many places to have dim sum in greater van, this place stands out as one of the top ones. Yes, you'll pay more here than most but you get what you pay for in quality. The items here are very well done, not too greasy and everything is seasoned right. The skin on the dumplings are thin yet do not fall apart, as evident on both the spinach and shrimp dumpling and the crab, shrimp and egg white dumpling. The cow osmasum (if you are into cow inards) with the green onion and ginger sauce featured perfectly cooked cow osmasum and a very flavourful sauce. Another noteworthy item was the walnut paste sweet soup with sesame filled rice flour balls. Very few places offer this particular sweet soup and again, the sweetness was just right and you can taste the walnuts in there. Be prepared to spend a few extra bucks but your taste buds will be rewarded.

Expected better
Submitted Saturday, November 24, 2007 - 5:57pm [Dine in]

I like the look of the place, its unique and different from most other restaurants. Went here for lunch the other day and was intrigued by a number of selections on the menu. After some tough decision making, decided to go with the crab cakes while my companion had the steak and stilton salad. The crab cakes were disappointing, it arrived in 3 mini discs. The size is not a big issue, quality always trumps quantity. However, these cakes were rather poorly made, the crust was soggy, not crisp at all, the cake itself was mushy. The flavour was okay and there was a good amount of crab in it (claw meat), but for $15, it needed to be better. The steak and stilton salad was alright, steak was tender and flavourful, and the blue cheese, well, lets just say its not the ideal thing to eat if you're on a first date. I would try other items on the menu if i'm in the area, but the food doesn't warrant making a trip just for it.

Pretty good
Submitted Sunday, October 7, 2007 - 10:39pm [Dine in]

I've been to better japanese restaurants, but Ichiro would be considered above average IMO. A good menu selection of traditional and some more creative items. I'd say the price is steeper than others of comparable quality. The sushi rolls are usually quite delicious. The nigiri has gotten better, its the right size and stays in tact. Cooked items are alright. I've never had a problem with freshness here. (no bad sashimi or wilted salad leaves). Service is decent, tea gets refilled pretty often. I do enjoy the comfortable dining environment. This would not be the first choice for me when i want some sushi, but I would not hesitate to come here either. Solid all around.

I frequent this place pretty often with my buddies for late night munchies. Its a good place to relax at a sports bar type place and have a bite. The service I've had has always been pretty good, they remember our orders and split our bills. The food, however, depends greatly on what you order. The pasta is sub-par, its usually cooked past al-dente. The pizzas and sandwiches are ok, nothing special. One time, my friend was served burnt fries but upon request, they promptly gave him a fresh batch. Anyway, still a good place to have an enjoyable time with friends and watch a game.

Excellent!
Submitted Friday, August 3, 2007 - 5:51pm [Dine in]

This restaurant has delicious sushi and fantastic grilled items. Service is great too, greated by the chefs and waiters/waitresses upon entering, tea is constantly refilled and service is there when needed. I'm a sucker for grilled items and this place definitely does it well, yakitori is juicy chicken, simply grilled and just a hint of sauce to enhance its flavour. The grilled fish items are great too, with a crisp exterior. The sushi is fresh and beautifully crafted; the rolls are just the right size with the right proportions. The sushi rice is very good as well, not the best i've had, but i'm just being extremely picky here. The goma-ae has a wonderfully rich sesame flavour and was very tasty.

An outstanding restaurant any japanese food lover must try!

Authentic, expertly prepared food
Submitted Saturday, June 23, 2007 - 4:38pm [Dine in]

This is without a doubt one of the best japanese restaurants you can find in greater vancouver. Everything here speaks tradition and authenticity. Recommended by a friend, I have been here several times and always left with a satisfied appetite. The chefs are japanese and so are almost all staff, they're all very friendly and attentive. The food is second to none, sashimi is fresh, perfectly cut, with fabulous texture. Robata items are all delicious with great grill flavour. All the sushi and rolls are delectable as well. The most impressive thing as another reviewer had stated, is the preparation of rice, it is absolutely flawless. Each grain is distinct, and the sushi rice has the perfect levels of flavour and texture. If nothing else, the meticulous preparation speaks volumes about the quality of everything on the menu. I love the fact that they have every traditional item imaginable on the menu, plus some very intriguing specials. One time I went, they had HORSE sashimi!!!! Probably more expensive than other japanese restaurants, but I am more than willing to pay a little extra for quality. Considering the great food here, you might even say its a bargain. I will certainly be a regular here.

Tasty spicy sauces
Submitted Monday, May 21, 2007 - 5:46pm [Dine in]

If you like some spice in your food, you should find some satisfaction here. One of the few korean restaurants here in Richmond. Some items on the menu are overpriced imo but the lunch specials are certainly reasonable. What I like most is anything with spicy sauce, i have to say it is delicious, a good blend of sweetness and spicyness. The sauce elevates the otherwise average food. For example, the octopus I had was tough and chewy. The rice bowls in earthenware pots are uniquely korean and worth checking out. Their noodles are ok, again, it really depends on the soup base chosen. I'd say they tend to skimp a bit on the meat portions. Service was standard, nothing special. Room is spacious and clean, enjoyable environment to dine in. If you're craving korean or are a fan of spicy sauces, this restaurant is certainly worth considering.

Very pleasant
Submitted Sunday, April 15, 2007 - 4:36pm [Dine in]

This place is packed, especially on fine weather days. Patio seating is sufficient and definitely the choice on a sunny day out, great seaside view. Food is very respectable, a seafood hot pot was delicious with ample portions of shellfish and fish, broth was tasty, the toast that came with it was average, it would have soaked up more broth had it been more toasty. A seafood tagliatelle was done well, again generous portions of seafood. Their sockeye burger was fair, flavour was decent, but portion of the salmon filet was extremely small, especially compared to the bun. A smoked salmon hash was quite enjoyable also. Service is competent, though slow. It took a while to get seated and for the food to arrive. Otherwise, satisfying dining experiences so far.

Don't waste your time and money on this place, there are far better japanese restaurants even within a block or two. The place is looks old and dirty, the tables and chairs look like they've been there since the 50's. Lets proceed to the food, it is horrible. Very poor sushi rice, lacking texture and taste. Ingredients not very fresh, the rolls and nigiri are not prepared well. They fall apart and lack quality. The cooked items are no better. If you're in Steveston, go across the street to Le Nakamura instead for some truly delicious and skillfully prepared Japanese fare.

Another place worth visiting in Steveston. Been here numerous times and every time its been pleasant. Awesome view of the wharf complemented by decent food. The food won't knock you outta your seat, but is still of a very respectable standard. Couple of dishes i've had: chicken parmesan was quite delicious (its broiled and unbreaded for the health concsious like me), the salmon and halibut souvlaki was ok, fish was a bit overcooked. My companions who had the steak sandwich and shrimp and crab cake burger enjoyed it too. I must note the service though, the waiter i've had the last two times was simply awesome, and made dining even more enjoyable. He's a young guy wearing a smile the whole time, as courteous as can be, came by to check on you, and refilled the water without having to be asked. Overall, a very solid choice if you're looking for a nice meal.

Submitted Saturday, December 30, 2006 - 6:31pm [Dine in]

As everyone has already said, service at this place is non-existent. The tables are quite squished together and this is clearly not the most comfortable place to dine. However, this place is always packed for a reason, this is Shanghai cuisine of utmost authenticity and deliciousness. The xiao long bao, the pan fried buns and the silver thread rolls are the best i hav had anywhere. Both buns are loaded w/ juice, and you can see all the layers literally unrolling itself off of the silver thread roll, divine simply dipped in condensed milk. Basically, expect nothing from this place except for pretty darn tasty and authentic food. Make sure you make a reservation though, or you'll never get a seat.

Been here a few times and have been impressed by the quality each time. At first, I didn't expect too much given the somewhat remote location, but was pleasantly surprised by the tasty food. The kitsilano sandwich is absolutely delicious, as well as a fabulous quesadilla. The only thing i'd say is the portions aren't very consistent, I felt the sandwich was a bit small, but the flavours more than made up for any lack in size. The quesadilla was a nice, hearty gooey cheesy experience w/o being greasy. Another thing I enjoy is they serve nice plump chicken breasts where I get a mouthful of protein when i sink my teeth into it. They also do a mean brunch as well. The breakfast items all look fantastic and inviting to dive in to. A great place to go satisfy your tummy.

Nice place, decent food
Submitted Sunday, December 3, 2006 - 11:19pm [Dine in]

The menu consists of a good range of choices, both western and chinese dishes. Its got everything from sizzling plate combos to stuff like black pepper chicken steak to curry beef to stuff like fried rice and soup noodles. Another one of these asian restaurants that offer a pretty good deal for the food. This place is slightly more upscale than other HK cafes. The food is fairly well prepared, mostly nice tasting, you'd get a healthy portion and the dining atmosphere is different. It is quite bright looking (mostly white) with pretty nice comfy seats. Service is not up to par with the food and environment though, waitresses are all young females and they look like they're more concerned w/ their makeup or other plans they have. Furthermore, some assume you are mandarin speaking just cuz ur asian. But other than the at times a tad clumsy service, this place is worth checkin out.

Another one of the many HK cafes out there. Namely good value, huge menu selection served up quick. The look of this place is better than most of the competitors though and it is a pretty comfortable place to dine, on par w/ some slightly more upscale restaurants. Food is quite delicious, and again, all the options are big on value. The mini meals, the sizzling plate combos etc. Service is what you'd expect from this type of restaurant, nothing noteworthy, there when u need it. I'd say this is one of the better HK cafes out there.

I come here around once a week when i have a break from school. The pizzas are always delicious, loaded with toppings and there's a good selection to choose from at all times. I'd say out of the fast pizza joints, this one is the best. I guess you'd expect so since they do cost significantly more than say, Panago or Pizza Hut. But I love how they have some very creative pizzas and the funky combinations and ingredients usually work. (Who else puts figs on their pizzas). My favourite is still the cheesy rom though, just o so cheezy. The lady who works there when I usually go is super friendly and pleasant too. Lets just say this place satisfies all my cravings for a nice slice of pie.

Having been to Vegas for casino buffets might have gotten my hopes up too high for this place. I was excited when I was invited by a relative to a weekend dinner buffet here, but it was as ordinary as can be. The selection of food was average at best, the food itself is alright, nothing stood out. For $23 or so bucks, i'd rather spend it on one dish at an a la carte restaurant and have it done well. Quality is far superior to quantity. Here, you're really paying for variety. Well, guess I shouldn't be too disappointed, Vegas buffets are one of a kind afterall.
