Samba Brazilian Steak House1122 Alberni Street, Vancouver
Good food and service
Submitted Thursday, July 12, 2007 - 4:26pm [Dine in]

Went to Samba for lunch and had the Rodizio. The servers were around every few minutes with either: chicken, lamb, beef, pork or sausages. I thought the meat was great and the salad bar had about 10 things to choose from. I had the cold mushroom salad (which were really nice alongside the meats) and some ceasar and onion rings. They also had pasta, but I didn't want to fill up on anything other than the meat.

In general the meat was cooked to my liking (meat a little pink and the chicken juicy). I had the lunch Rodizio and a bottle of beer and my bill came to $24 including service, which they added for me.. maybe dues to the large group we were in??

What is that smell?
Submitted Wednesday, January 3, 2007 - 11:58am [Dine in]

Great food! We had all sorts of dishes, from Won Ton soup, to beef noodles, etc etc. All the food was great. No complaints about the food at all. But why does the place smell like cat poop? Meow Garden or Miu Garden? I have only been once, so someone please correct me if this is not always the case.

Good food, bad service
Submitted Tuesday, January 2, 2007 - 2:36pm [Dine in]

It's the kind of service where they are talking to you, but looking over your shoulder. You get the feeling that they couldn't care less if you were there or not. Bordering on downright rude. Food was good, sushi tasted fresh, veggie gyoza was nice.

Good spring rolls
Submitted Wednesday, October 25, 2006 - 4:43pm [Dine in]

The fried spring roles are the saving grace for this place. I find the soup has too much MSG (I need to drink a litre of water after I leave the place) and the service is a bit off, bordering on grumpy.. The spring rolls keep me coming back, though. Crunchy and tasty. Definitely some of the best I've tried.

we don't have 2 piece cod & chips
Submitted Friday, September 29, 2006 - 5:28pm [Dine in]

"What do you mean?" I asked.. "Well" he said, "they come in 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 pieces".. Sheesh. Aside from that (and the fact they don't take credit cards) it was decent. I realized afterwards that they give you the extra 1/2 piece of fish so you don't go back and complain about the size of the first 2 pieces. They were very battery and the pieces of fish were a bit small. Fries were bang on. Tartar sauce was basically mayo with an itty bit of flavouring. Aside from all that, you can't complain about eating food outside at Garry point park. Atmosphere was great.

Delicious.

Only been once, but after the first visit, we will definitely be going back for more. Parking is a bit of a chore since the restaurant is located at the busiest corner in Richmond, but don't let that stop you from having a great Indian meal. House curry with chicken was rock solid, eggplant bhartha was perfect, biryani was great. Dosa was huge! Are they always 3 times the size of your plate? My gf's mom likes the spicy food so we asked them to kick it up a bit and they definitely did.

We parked on Saba and walked around the corner. Not a big deal.

Good things come in small packages
Submitted Friday, September 29, 2006 - 5:10pm [Dine in]

Sushi Aoki is a small, cozy, friendly sushi restaurant. The sushi chef and staff are all very friendly and seem genuinely glad to serve you. Sushi is always fresh and the rest of the menu is extensive. Spinach gomae is delicious; yakisoba is some of the best in the city. Service touches like the complimentary salmon taster to get your mouth watering and a slice of fruit at the end of the meal just add to the friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Go for the food
Submitted Friday, September 29, 2006 - 4:33pm [Dine in]

The Won can be busy at times, given the location, but don't let that get in the way of you having a great meal. Try the deep fried fish in hot garlic sauce or the tofu & eggplant hotpot. We've been going to the Won More for years and it has very rarely let us down. I think management has recently changed (last 6 months or so??) so we'll have to keep an eye on the quality. At least Tony the chef is still at his normal position in the front window. The guy has Popeye arms! Some other great dished are: Chicken with Tangerine peel, dry ginger beef, hot & sour soup,.. The only way you can go wrong is by ordering the same old chinese restaurant food. Try something different and you'll be happily surprised!

Friendly and tasty
Submitted Friday, September 29, 2006 - 4:23pm [Dine in]

I've been to Pisces several times now and what I find the best about their fish and chips is that it's tasty and crispy without being greasy. You'd think that being fairly close to Steveston they would have a tough act to follow with fish & chips, but I honestly find the food better at Pisces than at the big name places in Steveston. Portions are bigger, fish is tastier, batter is less greasy and the service is in a different league. The owners are always willing to have a chat and they are very friendly and remember you when you go back the second time. Ambiance is nothing special, but is nothing to complain about either.
