I think I've been here 3 times in 6 weeks and everytime I want to try everything on the menu. I just about have. Their steak, duck, salads, any sashimi, and pressed sushi are the highlights. Not a fan of their jewel box or any of the desserts. The only dish that's completely disappointing is the ebi mayo. Everything else is a solid good.
Their service is unbelievably fast, but their English is terrible. As long as you can be patient with that minor flaw, it's definitely worth it.
This place has been around for over 30 years! My mom took me here since before I can remember. It is the ONLY surviving business from the original Champlain Mall. What does that tell you? Though I believe the first owner sold this business years ago, it is still consistently exactly the same in terms of recipes. The prices have barely changed. You can get a loaf of bread for less than a $1.50, 1/2 doz dinner rolls for the same, and my absolute favourite is their lemon meringue pie. 6" of YUM for less then $4! I hope this place NEVER closes.
I find it so funny when I read about people complaining about Chinese restaurants being too busy and too noisy. Um, hello! It means it's damn good there! You have to line-up for GOOD Dim Sum and it's noisy because Chinese people generally talk loud. It's unavoidable.
I've only ever been here for lunch and the only time it wasn't so good was when they were changing chefs. I have yet to go there for dinner.
I think I've been here about a dozen times since earlier this summer.
The Hotpot says it's for 2, but it definitely feeds 3, so what a great deal. Can't go wrong with the $2.99 Wonton Noodle. The wontons are huge. All the noodle and rice dishes are excellent, large portioned and the price is so reasonable. Most of those same dishes at regular chinese restaurants are usually $2-$5 more. The only thing I think is a tad overpriced are the appetizers. 2 wonton noodles = 1 appetizer. How does that make sense?
In this area, this place is the closest if you want to be lazy. So for being lazy, it's decent enough. The only thing on the menu I highly recommend is the Calamari. It's ridiculously good! I have to order two orders to bring to a casual family dinner and everybody starts to pick at it and so it's the first to go before we even start. Everything else is not bad. Great if you're having one of those days where you can't think of where to go for a quick bite.
Been to plenty of BBT places and this is still one of my faves. They have the best selection and they give you more pearls than anyone else. They're fast too.
The only thing I don't understand is why the regular tea house has the tax included in the price, but the restaurant in Burnaby charges tax on top??
There really aren't much places like this. It's such a great place for a few friends to get together and chat over tea and sweets. I ususally get the 'Demi' and it's filling. I find their mini sandwiches are better than their regular ones.
It's almost always busy, so making a reservation is a good idea.
This place has been around over ten years. I think I started going after about 2 years. They almost never change their menu, but why change a good thing?? Their croissants are the best especially with the jam. I love almost all their little cakes (the Aladdin, Berry Yogurt, and Blueberry Cheesecake are my faves). Coffee's fresh, strong, and hot. Their sandwiches and salads are always the freshest. Can't say I've ever been a fan of their daily homemade soups though.
