A Very Hard To Understand Place
Submitted Monday, December 10, 2007 - 8:26pm [Dine in]

I went in here one night because I worked downtown and this was the closest place for me to grab a quick meal...SO I THOUGHT?

I walked in and it lookes like a cafeteria, I was not able to really identify any of the food that was displayed uner the glass display cases because the items had all strange names that only an experienced VEGAN would know anything about. And to my shock, you have to buy everything by the weight..now I don't know about you....but I don't exaclty weigh my food, nor do I know anyone else that does. So this made if very difficult for me to figure out how much of anything to order. All I remember is that the prices were over $3.00 for a hundred grams of whatever was in the bowl.
I am not a Vegan or Vegetarian but I do love vegitables, So I thought how hard could it be to go in here and find something to eat. The girl that worked there was wanting me to order some sort of special Vegan food that I can't remember the name of. Anyhow to eat here you basicaly have to be an expert on the Vegan lifestyle or you will not be able to figure out what to do. I got so confused that I ended up just turning around and walking out.

As far as ambience goes, definately and awkward Wicken vibe to it. Plenty of Paganistic Vibes and senstation, wich a touch of lesbianism lingering in the air.

I won't try it there again.

This Is Hard To Believe..You Have To Read This!!
Submitted Tuesday, November 6, 2007 - 9:59am [Dine in]

I went down to this White-Spot location with 3 friends after a concert up the street at the Arena and so did about 40 other people from the concert. When we got there it was packed, they only had one waitress working the entire restaurant, and it took 20 minutes to even get a menu. We ordered our food and 20 mintues later we were still wating, so we checked with the waitress and she forgot to put the order in! Then we waited another 25 mintues and she brought everyone at the table the wrong plates. So we noticed that everyone in the restaurant was getting the wrong plates and everyone was waiting forever for there food. In the end.....I don't think anyone got the food that they ordered and me and my friends ended up just eating what she brought us, which was nothing close to what any of us ordered in the first place...And Everyone else in the restaurant was eating other peoples food as well. By the time we were ready to go...We were not charged for our meal and I think everyone in the restaurant ate for free because the screwed up not just one order...BUT EVERY SINGLE ORDER IN THE WHOLE RESTAURANT! I have never seen anything like it in my life! it was like something out of a slap-stick comedy movie. I have never ever returned.

Tourist Ice-Cream Anyone?
Submitted Tuesday, November 6, 2007 - 9:51am [Dine in]

This is a nice little Ice-Cream shack on the Fisherman's Wharf. The owner operates the business out of the bottom of his house boat, and he lives up-stairs. Being located on a strictly tourist location he is only able to operate in the summer season and is closed for the majority of the year. His Ice-cream is a little high in price, but I can imagine so is his rent for running a business there.

I went few times simply because I enjoy the atmoshphere of the Fisherman's wharf and I like to show Barb's place that they are not the only business down there anymore.

I Prefer To Wear Leather....Not Eat It.
Submitted Tuesday, November 6, 2007 - 9:42am [Dine in]

I went in here for an early dinner one day and ordered the grilled chicken breast burger with a side salad. The service was rushed and not personal, the bartender looked at me like I was a jerk, and when I got my food my chicken burger was so overcooked it was like chewing on an old peice of leather! The side salad was served in a tiny little round bowl and contained about 3 bites of salad. And the salad was old and not fresh and the dressing was horrible. But I was really hungry so I just suffered through it and ate it anyway. I then decided to mention to the bartended who was serving me that my chicken breast burger was extremely over-cooked and that the whole meal was rather disgusting. His response was very rude and he started questioning me loudly in front of other customers why I did not say anything when I got it (as we all know, sending a meal back to the chef, often results in it returning with a little special ingredient added to it..generaly spit) So I do make it a habbit of NEVER EVER returning a dish back to the kitchen. The bartender in the end knocked off a whole 2 dollars off of my bill and seemed qute bothered to do so.

BIG THUMBS DOWN TO EVERYONE!!!!.......What a horrible place with horrible staff, and horrible food.

Two Times Too Many
Submitted Tuesday, October 23, 2007 - 8:27pm [Dine in]

I went to Tino's 5 years ago on my birthday and received the worst service and meal that I had ever had in my life. When we first walked in it took 15 minutes for a waitress to come to our table, then it took an hour and a half for our meals to get to the table and my steak was the size of a 2 Dollar coin and burnt. The waitress gave us a bill for the full amount. I believe my mother only ended up paying half of the bill and even that was generous on my mothers part. FAST FORWARD>>>>>>>>Tonight 5 years later My mother insists on giving it another try (thankfuly tonight was not my birthday). So three of us went down there for dinner because my mother insisted that they had the best breaded veal cutlets. While the service was fast, there were only 2 waitresses on for the whole restaurant which was more than half full, and as you would imagine this negatively affected our service from her....She did not even have the time to get my mother's husband a cup of coffee when he ordered it. Me and my mothers husband ordered the same meal,,,the breaded Veal Cutlets. First we got our salads which were tiny in portion and had poor dressing on them. When our meals came there were two Overcooked breaded veal patties lying on top of eachother and piece of broccoli and a couple pieces of carrot. The Vegies were only half cooked, and the Lemmon potatoe that was served with it tasted rotten. If you pressed down on the veal patty you could see the oil it was fried in run out.....Someone Get Me A Bucket , I am gonna #*#*. And the inside of the cutlets looked like those pre-cooked chicken burger patties you buy down and Fairway Market with the mechanicaly seperated meat inside!! And in the end this plate cost me $16.00 dollars! I told the waitress that I understood she was busy cause the place was understaffed, but I asked her to pass on to the chef what a horrible meal it was. My mother's husbands veal cutlet plate was equally bad. Two times too many for this place folks...NEVER AGAIN

Bent Mast, The512 Simcoe St, Victoria
A Good Old Fashioned Sea Worthy Pub
Submitted Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 10:17pm [Dine in]

The Bent Mast is a good old fashioned pub located inside an old victorian home right on one of the five corners of the James bay villiage intesection. The building is run down and is not well kept, but that adds character to it. The kitchen is dirty and so are the dishes that come out of it. You can always be sure to find a few things floating in your beer LOL from the old taps that they use to poor your drinks. But if that sort of thing does not bother you, then the Bent Mast is the place that makes you feel like you are in your own living room. The atmosphere is great and is very unique in it's art and interior decorating. It has a huge outdoor patio with a nice old porch out front where you can sit and drink your brews on a nice cool night and converse with all the friendly neighbourhood people that are there on a regular basis. Inside you will no irritating TV's but instead there are plently of board games to choose from such as Trivial Persuit and Balderdash. And you will also find a nice little library of interesting books to choose from as well. This is a sea baring pub with lots of maritime feal and character to it. And if you look in the right spot you just might encounter one of the many Ghosts that are said to be permenant guests of the old house. This pub is a great place to meet new friends and just have a good old time. I love the atmosphere and you will never find another place like it on the planet. It is simple, and yet when you are there you feel right at home.

Worst Service I Have Ever Had!
Submitted Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 9:44pm [Dine in]

I walked in here around 4:30 in the afternoon for an early dinner. I sat down and it took 10 minutes for a waitress to bring me a menu. I order the Enchelada's and since there is an open kitchen at this location I was able to see when my food was up. I was the only customer in the restaurant and the waitress completely ignored me and the fact that my food was ready to be taken over to me. She instead sat at the bar and chatted with her co-workers. The cook even had to Yell across the restaurant at her twice that my meal was up and she just looked over at me and the cook and did absolutely nothing! She then continued to go about the restaurant doign other things even though she knew my food was sitting there and read to come to my table. After 10 mintues of staring and my food over on the open kitchen and looking over at her I got up and walked out the door. On the way out the hostess reluctantly removed herself from haning out with a large group of Muscular Gell Haird Jocks sitting at the bar and asked me if there was anything wrong? I told her exactly what happened and she actually asked me if I was going to be staying or leaving. I told her I was leaving and she asked if there was anything she could do for me......My answer was "Yes You Can Fire That Waitress!" Moxie's Classic Grill On Yates Holds my personal record for the worst service that I have ever had at a resaurant in my life!

Wonderful Atmosphere....Extremely Rich Food.
Submitted Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 9:27pm [Dine in]

I Stopped in here one night as it is about a block away from my house. I treated myself to a great big New York Steak with frits. The steak was quite good but the frits were way too rich and the garlic butter dip that came with it was also extremly rich. The meal tasted great but was quite expensive and because it was so rich I ended up getting ill after eating there. A Steak and frits with one glass of wine ended up running me $37.00 Dollars!!!! The Atmosphere was excellent though, very quite with nice dim lighting .....a very comfortable setting. The Servie was also great and the waitress treated me very well. Unfortunately because I got ill after eating there I will not be returning.

Great Place To Have Luch!
Submitted Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 9:21pm [Dine in]

I never went to the Garlic Rose all the years that it was located downtown victoria. But now that it has re-located to Langford I think it will do quite well.I was driving through Langford with my mother one afternoon and we stopped in for lunch. The food was great, the service was great, and I loved the atmosphere. The Location used to be a Mexican Restaurant that went Belly-Up and they basicaly kept the all the mexican theme inside. I would definatley go back for luch again. The staff were nice and they treated us with legite polite service.

Clubhouse, The919 Douglas St, Victoria
Huge, Loud , Unorganzied Sports Pub
Submitted Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 9:09pm [Dine in]

The Clubhouse is a large establishment that exists inside the Strathcona Hotel and is just one part of the building. The Restaurant consists of 3 or four different sections that all have different names and are considered different establishments, even though they are all owned by the same people and are in the same building. There are no walls to seperate the different sections, and you can walk freely between them. The staff are not interested in you as a customer and do not pay much attention to you. I had to wait 10 minutes before a waitress offered me an menu and when my food came it was cold and really not that good. There are about 50 loud giant TV screens all over the place playing various sporting events and that seems to be the only thing that the staff are interested in is watching the TV's. The Club House Is A Big, Loud, Fast Paced Sports Pub with low quality food and service.

Good Soft Serve....Poor Everything Else
Submitted Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 8:53pm [Dine in]

Well What Can I Say....The Beacon Drive-In....which by the way is not an actual drive in, is famous for its Soft Serve Ice Cream. Island Farms Specialy Makes The Mix Just For Them And I Have Heard It Contains Whipped Cream....That Is Why It Is So Delicious. I Will Admit That They Do Indeed Have The Best Soft Serve Ice Cream Around, But The Service Is Poor And So Is Everything Else On Their Menue. It Is Staffed By Young, Under-Paid Kids That Have No Sense Of Food Safety Or Sanitization. I Ordered A Hamburger There Once And When The Girl Finnished Coughing All Over Her Hands And Threw My Burger Down On The Tray She Rushed Outside To Smoke A Cigarette And Play Hacky-Sack. I Would Only Recommend This Establishment For The Soft Serve Ice Cream. Dairy Queen Is Good If You Like Ice Milk,Because That Is What There Soft Serve Is Made From, But If You Want A Soft Serve That Is Made With Whipped Cream Then The Beacon Drive In Is The Place.

Barb's Place Fish And Chips Is An Over-Hyped And Over-Priced Tourist Trap
Submitted Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 8:44pm [Dine in]

I have lived here in Victoria My Whole Life And About 20 Years Ago Barb's Place Fish And Chips Indeed Was An Excellent Place To Have Fish And Chips And It Was Inexpensive And Good Quality...Fast Forward To Barb's Now In The Present Day And While It Has A Solid Atmosphere Being Outdoors Right On Fisherman's Wharf The Food Is Horrible. It is Extremely Expensive And You Get A Tiny Little Bit Of Fish That Is About The Size Of A Two Dollar Coin. The Last Time I Ate There Was The Last Time I Would Ever Eat There. The Staff Were Unfriendly, To Busy To Even Look At Me When I Was Talking, And When I Got My Fish It Was Half Cooked And The Batter Was Almost Completely Raw. I Actually Got Ill After Eating There. In My Honest Opinion.......The Only Thing Good About Barb's Place Fish And Chips Is It's Location. BIG THUMBS DOWN.

Highest Level Of Professional And Personal Service At Periklis Greek Restaurant
Submitted Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 8:32pm [Dine in]

I have been going to Periklis for years now and the one thing that keeps bringing me back more than any other reason is the excellent, highly professional service that I recieve every time I visit. I dine out quite regularily... and Periklis hands down provides the best service I have ever had at any Victoria Restuarant in my entire life. As soon as you walk in the door you are treated like royalty and the waiters are the most prefessional and most experienced waiters I have ever had serve me. They treat you with the highest respect and their service is legitimate! They don't just treat you well because they want a large gratuity from you, They actualy treat you well because they want to and they recognize the important impression that it leaves on every single customer that dines at Periklis. There is one waiter in particular that needs to be given the best service award in the city, Yet I have never gotten his name. I highly recommend Periklis to anyone who wants excellent food in an authentic Greek atmosphere, and the best most personal service you will ever experience.
