Q4 Restaurant - Quattro On Fourth2611 West 4th Ave, Vancouver
Yummy!
Submitted Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 1:07am [Dine in]

Dined at Q4 on New Years Eve... first time we had ever been... and glad we did... we wanted a low key dinner on New Years, as we're not clubbers and thought this would be great.. they had a set menu and we gave it a shot.
Okay, so I actually thought it would be a bit more hopping for NYE but, it was okay... more of a place I would go on a date night.. but here's the review:
Food - really good! The dishes were delish....everything we had tasted really good! Can't remember all the dishes, but insalata (with tomatoes and mozzerrela), Spagetti Quttro (very good/garlicky), ravioli (with mushrooms), also had dessert (sorry can't remember what we had) but great!
Service - was friendly and good .... wasn't sure what to expect after reading the reviews, but all the servers were friendly, and I think the chief? came out and wished us a happy new year!
I would definatly come back again, perhapes on the pasta night? or if my date's paying :-)

Never again!
Submitted Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 12:52am [Dine in]

Went on a weeknight, and normally wouldn't go to a "chain" but options were kinda limited (due to dietary restrictions).... it was a slow night, as it was mid-week and super cold out.
Service was extremly! slow!!! IT wasn't even a full restuarant (less then half full) and yet it seemed to take forever to get service!! The table behind us, arrived and ordered and received thier food before us?? How does that happen??? There were 2 of them, 3 of us.. come on!!
So my friend ordered yam fries - pretty standard stuff right? but apparently they don't serve that with thier normal dip, they changed it to some asian thing, which was aweful! Apparently Milestones changed it and didn't have thier regular one?
We ordered our mains, and as mentioned, took forever to arrive, at one point we even asked how much longer it may be (hint hint - hurry it up?) and we were told a few minutes... 10 minutes later it arrived?... .friend ordered shrimp dianne? and was not impressed, other milestones locations don't skimp out on the shrimp! other friend had gluten free pasta... and it was okay... my mushroom chicken dish was okay, seemed like chicken was overcooked??
I am sorry, but we were not impressed...I know it's a chain but other locations of Milestones, seem to have much better food and service then this particular location -- Folks you're on Robson street.. aren't you supposto be trying to impress???

So-so.. .
Submitted Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 12:42am [Dine in]

My friends and I decided to check out Ensemble, as we didn't want to go to a dine out restaurant on the weekend. Menu/website looked great, and we had wanted to check this place out.
I arrived prior to my friends, and it was rather a cool reception, like the hostess didn't want to have customers? She seemed to warm up somewhat more as the night went on and I guess as more people started showing up. Room it self was okay...they can't help being located by a firehall - i guess...
I don't drink, but was surprised to hear they make mixed drinks for non-alcholics - that was great!
Food wise? Well.. small portions yes -- our server did explain that it was "small plates" so best to get 3 plates per person. The food we order for the most part pretty good... Eggplant dish, scallops, poached/crispy chicken, gnocchi and others... only gripe of sorts is, kinda left not feeling full? We had though we would do dessert, but on a rainy misserable day like we had been, all on offer was icecream/sorbet deserts?
It was okay.. may go back sometime, but there are plenty of other restaurants I would go to first before coming here.

is this a reflection of dining in?
Submitted Friday, May 20, 2011 - 8:28pm [Delivery]

So I was at home watching the hockey game and decided to get delivery. After reading many reviews I thought I would check this restuarant out.

I ordered the Penne Boscaiola, thinking that it would be okay. After a bit of a problem with delievery (who ever packed the items at the restuarant didn't fasten/close the containers properly) I opened my dish. Well if looks could kill? It didn't look very appetizing, but i thought it can't be that bad? What a mistake -- do they even season anything? It was very bland .. no flavor at all! You would think the sauce had something - but no.. it was like they just threw some penne pasta with some sauted baby button mushrooms chopped in half, and a bit of peas and what looked like sliced ham, and bland sauce. -- -urhg! I had to season it up myself..

If this dish is a reflection of what is served at their restuarant, there is NO WAY I would want to eat there.. so gross! I had to throw it out - what a waste of money! Now I have to go find something else to fill me up.. thanks alot!

Chambar562 Beatty Street, Vancouver
Favorite Restaurant in Vancouver - hands down!
Submitted Friday, December 3, 2010 - 8:58pm [Dine in]

Okay so if my title doesn't say it.. I LOVE Chambar! I have been here numerous times, and one of the main reasons I keep coming back is because the services is the BEST service in Vancouver. Helpful hints about wine pairings, great food, and just really the best service. I really don't know how else to say it.. .I do eat out probably more then I should, but Chambar is the place that me and my friends love to come to if we want to celebrate or just have a great time! As someone who doesn't drink the bartenders always come up with innovatative and tasty non-alcholic beverages for me.. .and my friends love all the alcholic drink creations as well. The food is pretty good, and i know that when my friends ask for wine pairings they always have good suggestions.
I have yet to go to any restaurant in Vancouver that has the service that Chambar does - keep up the great job!
Obviously I don't come here all the time, but to celebrate or just a nice meal or to kick off the evening, this is the place to go to. :-)

Came here over the weekend for a friends birthday.. unfortunatly I couldn't eat any of the mains or appies, but my friends all said they loved what they ordered. Drinks were great too, and as someone who wasn't drinking that night, I was impressed that they have a menu for non-alcholic beverages (and it's not just pop/juice) - some creative and tasty drinks. Desserts were good (chocolate souffle?). Was quite busy that night, and staff was excellent and friendly and very nice - not the usual yaletown attitude..

Takis Taverna1106 Davie Street, Vancouver
not that great..
Submitted Tuesday, July 8, 2008 - 1:27pm [Dine in]

Went to Takis for dinner last week... my friend lives in the neighbourhood and said she and her husband go there when they need thier greek fix. So we decided to go.
My friend realized that service had gone way down from when she last visited. We waited at the door for a bit, and had to flag down someone to say 'hello? we'de like to be seated' (it was not that busy). We were seated and given menus and then seemed liked we were ignored? Finally after catching a servers eye, we were given some pita bread (dry) and then asked what we wanted to eat. We ordered our food, and then had to flag someone to order a drink!
Food came out (slowly).. .honestly - i have better Greek food then this..portions were not bad, but quite bland tasting.. it's a small step up from Stepho's but not by much..
Then we waited quite a while for our bill, and again we had to flag someone down.... my friend said she's never had this bad service from them before - perhaps a change in management or ownership?
Regardless my friend got home, and spent the rest of the evening throwing up.. . I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon.

Great Thai restaurant
Submitted Friday, July 4, 2008 - 2:37pm [Dine in]

Came here for my 2nd or 3rd time and I have to say fantastic! We had brought along a friend from out of town (who was craving Thai food) and everyone enjoyed everything. Fantastic Thai food and great service and we had enough left overs for the next day! Lots of variety in thier dishes, and the staff was very helpful and kind. Unfortantly we were too full with main meals that we didn't have room for dessert but will try another time. Great stuff! Will be back soon!

Submitted Friday, July 4, 2008 - 2:33pm [Dine in]

I have been going to Stepping Stones off and on for the last year or so.. and everytime i go, I am not dissappointed. First few times i went before going to work, and picked up some freshly baked goodies for my co-workers who all enjoyed them (various cookies and muffins), and i have gone in many times, when I am in the neighboor hood. Great treats everytime. I have had the pleasure of meeting with the owner? and she has been nice and helpful (and even remembered my name). Bought cakes on various occasions and if they know you're on your way (and you're running a few minutes late) they stay around until you come pick it up! Great place.. and yummy treats. .well worth a visit.

not worth my time..
Submitted Saturday, June 28, 2008 - 9:02pm [Dine in]

After my last experience at the yaletown location of Milestones, I wasn't going to be rushing to go anytime soon. A few of my collegues had gone since our previous experience (after they had thier reno) and they were not too pleased either.
Anyways, I went not to eat or drink but rather to get some gift certificates for some friends (they go to other locations).
So I walked in .. no one was at the front... .so I waited.. then i see to servers? but instead of greeting me, they continue to have thier own conversation??? so I wait and try to get another servers attention, finally i do. I tell him I am looking to get some gift certificates.. okay, come by the bar. I guess he's new, because the bartender tells him that gc's are in the office (and the bartender seemed a bit bored/disturbed to be asked in the first place).. so poor server goes to the back and finds them and brings them back and trys to put them through on the register - i guess he's new again, because he's not sure how to punch it up -- fair enough, and I am being patient. But littly miss snotty pants (another server or perhaps manager?) comes by and seems irrated that the poor guy doesn't know? SHE gives ME? a dirty look and walks off. WTF???
honestly .. milestones is not that bad of a restuarant, but the yaletown location had something up its a$^%^.
NEVER GO THERE!!

Submitted Saturday, June 28, 2008 - 8:54pm [Dine in]

I heard some great reviews, so I decided to go for my birthday. Called to make reservations, but was told they only reserve 1/5 of the room, and that was already booked for the night i requested - fair enough. Spoke to a guy named Dave.
So a few of my friends got there first and put thier name on the list.. we waited for over an hour, and we're really 'attended' to as some of the guests -- I guess it's been a while since I've been to the Kit's area, and forgot what that scene was all about (a male friend commented on how "plastic and botoxed" some of the other guests looked. Regardless it seemed like a very nice ambience and everyone looked to be having a great time.
Ordered our food, and it was delicious! Absolutly faboulous! Our table had salmon, gnocchi, another pasta dish, lasgna, and prawns and everyone loved thier food! Unfortunantly I wasn't drinking that night, but everyone who had ordered drinks said they were great!
Only issue I have is that we seemed to have a relvolving bunch of servers/hosts/hostess serving us.. it didn't seem like we had just one person like most restuarants.. i just seemed a bit odd?
I would probably go back some time soon, just would make reservations prior to... loved the food! and will try the drinks next time. I can see why alot of people like this place!

Submitted Friday, October 26, 2007 - 8:36pm [Dine in]

Was in Stanley Park area with a friend, and decided to go to Whitespot for something to eat. We get there, and get seated..nice cosy fireplace - might be nice? The waitress gives us the menu's and then disappears, then another waitress comes by to light our candles (as it was evening time) and the orignal waitress quickly comes by and is all territorial with the other waitress - WEIRD???
We order our food, Burger and a quesadilla...the burger is just a bun with sauce and the patty... umm where's the lettuce? or tomatoe? Had to flag the waitress from across the restuarant, as she seemed to disapear again. Waitress replies that's how the burger comes - WHAT?? SINCE WHEN??? she takes it back, no apolgy. Later we order dessert, and the fudge brownie tastes like it had just been taken out of the freezer and hasn't completly finshed thawing??? umm doesn't the menu say it's supposto be a hot fudge brownie?? the "fudge" was from a squeeze bottle.. not hot!
I know it's whitespot, but come on folks! lets get with it.. if other locations can get it, why can't you guys?

Been to Rugby Club.. but service declining..
Maybe its because every time I go it seems to be busy, but wait staff and hostesses seem to spend more time chatting each other up, then actually doing thier job??? did speak to one who said that most of the staff are "struggling actors".
Drinks are great, but food is hit or miss at times.

Even though I have lived in the area for nearly 30 years, never been to Cipriano's... have walked by and thought of going, but never did, until a few months ago when Crave's line up was too long!
One of our friends had tried Cipriano's pizza and said it was fantastic so we decided to give it shot! Didn't realize they only do reservations, and if you want to wait in line you could be waiting for quite some time. We decided to wait it out, and about 45 minutes later we finally got a table.
I ordered a spagetti bolognese and you would think a proper Italian restuarant would get that right? This tasted like they just opened a can of tomatoes and put it on top of the pasta yuk!!
My friends fared better, with one ordering a lovely pesto penne, and the other had an incredible pizza. Also we had some pretty amazing garlic bread.
The atmospher seemed okay, except we were sitting right by the bar? and could hear the staff talking/yelling/swearing and making inappropriate comments.
Also quite pricey.. not sure if I would want to pay that much?
Overall.. i may go back, but would order pizza for take away perhapes.

Went to Nyala a few months ago, and to be honest didn't know what to expect, but was pleasently surprised.
Staff was great and friendly, and very helpful trying to explain what the dishes were. Family run restuarant, which adds to the charm. Was a packed house when we went, but must say service wasn't rushed or bad - great job!
Food was great! For a first time trying a different ethnic dish, this was great. Will hopefully be going back soon!

Have taken many friends, and they all enjoy it as well.
Never had Roobios until I tried it there, and it's great! Desserts are fab. I think I must have tried all most all of them at some point. Staff is lovely as well, and I quite enjoy the atmosphere.
Can get quite busy at times, but well worth it.
Will be trying the Sunday Tea at some point. Definately think it's a great place, and encourage others to try too!

Vera's Burger Shack2922 Main Street, Vancouver
new location (on Main St.)
Submitted Monday, January 22, 2007 - 11:21am [Dine in]

A new location just opened up on Main and 13th, so I thought I would try it. I have never been to Vera's before, but had heard many good things, and my sister had been to a diff. location and she said it should be good.. We decided to call ahead our order and pick up. No problem they said after we submitted our order, should be ready in 15 minutes.
We arrived 15 minutes later, and waited another 10. Then were told they "ran out of fries" and staff seemed a bit confused as what to do. They did mention they just opened on Wedneday (5days prior) and they werent sure how much stuff they needed to order. So they suggested either taking it off or getting onion rings.. as we had 2 orders of fries, I said cancel one and make the other onion rings. Staff didn't seem to understand how to calculate it. Others waiting for thier orders also were not told of the fries run out situation until the rest of thier orders were completed either.
Overall, I would say the burger I had (Lamb) tasted great... wasn't impressed that they charge extra for things and they didn't mention that when ordering, but food was good - over priced, but good.
Service - well okay, I know they just opened up so maybe give them a break this time, but most of the staff seemed happy and pleasent, the cook however, seemed geniunly not happy to be at work.
Will perhapes go again, once they have settled down a bit and figured out how much supplies they need.
