Went on a Friday night at around 9 PM with a friend. The restaurant wasn't too busy but busy enough.

Food: Ordered the roast lamb and chicken/lamb souvlaki. Both were fine. Rice and potatoes were alright, but they're better at Kalamata.

Service: Good. Considering we got there about less than an hour before closing, we didn't feel rushed and our waitress was friendly. Entertainment coupon was accepted easily and service didn't change.

Value: Just a bit more expensive than other Greek restaurants but still fine.

Ambiance: Nice.

I'd go back but not in a rush to.

Fresh sushi
Submitted Tuesday, November 17, 2009 - 2:25pm [Dine in]

The rolls are fresh! On different occasions I've tried the dragon roll, scallop magma roll, chopped scallop roll and the California roll and they've all been very fresh (chopped scallop was very good and prawn tempura in the dragon roll was crispy!)

Presentation was nice too as I got them in this Japanese inspired container, instead of just styrofoam. However, I hope these more expensive containers don't hurt the quality in the long run.

Food takes awhile because there's only one person making the sushi so now I just pre-order it.

Prices are decent for downtown.

good for lunch
Submitted Monday, November 17, 2008 - 9:35pm [Dine in]

I went here for lunch a few days ago. The salsa and chips before our meal was good. The salsa was a bit spicy but very tasty with the cilantro and onions.

I liked the casual feel of the restaurant. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.

My burrito was steaming hot and didn't seem or taste like it came out of the microwave.

I'll be back again for lunch since it's good, convenient, and not crammed with the downtown crowd during lunch time.

Bad service, good food
Submitted Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 11:04pm [Dine in]

Went there recently and I think it's the first time I've been to a late night AYCE where the chopped scallop roll actually tasted FRESH even though it was 10 PM at night. So kudos to them for that. Their other raw food was fresh too.

Service wasn't the best as our waitress kept on impatiently looking at her watch and kept on asking "That's it right? That's it? This is the last call. That's it right?" I really don't know what her rush was as other group of people JUST sat down and obviously the restaurant wasn't closing at that moment. Also, our group didn't even order that much and half of our second order didn't even show up. ... so the service here seems the same as other AYCEs. but who goes to AYCE for the service right?

Best service ever for a large group
Submitted Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 10:57pm [Dine in]

Service: I was there with a group of about 25 a month or so ago and the majority of my party was terribly (40 mins) late. The manager (?) didn't frown once and still treated us wonderfully. The food came in a timely manner and the manager had no problem giving us all separate bills, and also, he didn't charge us the 15% gratuity that other restaurants do, which made me even more inclined to tip him more b/c we were such a hassle. The manager/server was very charming, polite, and attentive.

Food: Once again I found it a bit salty. Portions were good though.

Needs another cook
Submitted Sunday, April 27, 2008 - 1:17pm [Dine in]

Went there for dinner a few weekends ago and also very recently. The greek salad in the beginning and the pita bread are great and generous but the entrees came out terribly slow. Looking around it happened to all the tables. Last time I thought it was just that night but when it happened again last night, it probably happens to them all the time. They really need to get another cook inside the kitchen. I saw only one guy working in there and he was going non stop. Besides the slow coming entrees, everything else was great.

Yes this place is a bit pricey for Chinese food but the food is tastey and the decor and service are good. We ordered 4 dishes - kung po chicken, beef tenderloin, salmon + risotto, and one more. All were good. Price is good with the Entertainment Book coupon. Will return again for lunch.

Pizza seems like the better choice
Submitted Saturday, March 1, 2008 - 5:14am [Dine in]

If I go back again I'll go for the pizza. My lasanga was alright, but nothing that great. The pizza around me that other customers were eating looked good and according to reviews, that's what I should have ordered instead! My lasanga was brought out and then a little while later, my friends' dinners were brought out... and my lasanga was only warm at this point. Water wasn't refilled. The place was busy, but not THAT busy so I think service could have been a bit better. I wish they still had an Entertainment coupon though.

Best location
Submitted Saturday, March 1, 2008 - 5:03am [Dine in]

I think of the English Bay, Richmond, and New West location, this location is the best overall. I've been to this location a few times now and each time I'm always impressed. I went on a Wednesday night and they were surprisingly very busy with an office dinner and around 4 birthdays. Even though the place was full (no empty tables in the dining area if I remember correctly) service was prompt and the food came out in a timely manner. Water was refilled, wine brought quickly, bread refilled, dessert suggestions offered, etc etc.. the service was great. Food came out hot and my medium rare was, in fact, a medium rare :) I wish parking could be reimbursed though but I guess that's impossible with a casino nearby.

It was my first time at this location and we went on a weekday evening. The server explained the whole sukiyaki concept to us, including what to do with the egg. Our entire order came every time we put in an order sheet which was appreciated! Service was prompt and friendly. The only thing that would make this place better is if it was bigger. I'd go back.

Submitted Friday, January 11, 2008 - 4:52pm [Dine in]

I went here for a weekday lunch with a friend. I thought the service was good but understaffed especially when the restaurant got busy around 12:30.

I didn't find the beef to be 4/5 or even 1/2 fat. I found it more like 1/3 or 1/4 fat only. I'd prefer more meat selection, but for $10 I think just pork and beef and all the veggies + more is pretty good.

I don't get why they decided to use those types of stoves though. They get dirty so fast, the propane gets used up quickly and they're annoying to turn on. Lots of other hotpot restaurants have those built in (to the table) stoves which would definitely help this place out.

Overall I thought this place was good. It'd be nice if they could reimburse customers for parking.

Will return to try lots of things!
Submitted Monday, August 13, 2007 - 2:00am [Dine in]

I had one of the pizzas and so did a bunch of my other friends so we all just traded one slice so we had a nice sampling of the pizzas. All the pizzas had a nice flavour and weren't too crust heavy! My other friend had the club sandwich and wow did it look good! I will definitely be trying a sandwich next time I return (this was my first time!) or else a pasta. My other friend got the fettucine or linguini something and it looked very appetizing and tasted great.

Only downside was I don't think my iced tea was bottomless or if it was, the server wasn't attentive.

On the upside, our entire table was not charged for drinks! (iced tea and coffee)

Another upside - the patio is really a great place for brunch outside!

And one more upside - the hostess was so friendly and helpful and didn't mind at all that she had to re-arrange the tables on the patio for my party!

O Thai Cuisine Restaurant1626 West Broadway, Vancouver
Nice Thai place in that area
Submitted Saturday, July 28, 2007 - 4:01pm [Dine in]

O Thai is definitely a nice Asian place in the Broadway and Granville area. The food tasted good and came out hot. The service was excellent! Nicely decorated and spaced restaurant. All the servers were very courteous.

For a Thai restaurant though it is a bit on the expensive side. Eg. one bowl of Tom Yum soup is $5 where for $8 or $9 you can get Tom Yum soup at Green Basil that is good for 4 people. In addition, the soup only contained mushrooms and two prawns where Tom Yum in other places had more stuff in it.

Calamari was very nice - light and crispy. The satay came out hot and was tasty. Spring rolls also came out hot. I was very appreciative of this! Pad thai was pretty good. Glad it wasn't too sweet like how some restaurants do it. Roasted duck dish was good too though the sweet sauce they used was a bit too sweet!

Overall this is a good restaurant and is definitely a nice change from Earls (right across the street) but because of the slightly more expensive prices, I will probably go elsewhere if I want Thai food again.

Waited 30 minutes for food
Submitted Friday, July 27, 2007 - 12:20pm [Dine in]

Group of 4, 9 PM, Thursday night. 3 burgers, 1 quesadilla.

We waited 30 minutes for food! I noticed other tables without food too and I thought maybe they were just unusually busy for a Thursday evening but reading the reviews here makes me believe they are REALLY slow here. I noticed one other table (3 ppl) and all they ordered was salad and they had to wait 20 minutes!

When we finally got our food, our burgers were only warm, not hot, considering how long it took them to prepare it. My friend's burger was sitting out for so long that the burgers sauces made the bottom burger bun soggy.

In addition to the slow food, the water was slow too. I had to ask for water and it took awhile for our waitress to bring it! And it's JUST water!

We were seated near the patio and were a bit chilly so we asked to move to one of the booths. They said that side was closed. When we entered the restaurant I noticed one group in the far corner in the booth area. When we left the restaurant there were two families seated in the booth area. They were probably seated there b/c there was no more room in the area we were sitting in but still, they could have seated us there too. I'm sure it wouldn't have been THAT much trouble cleaning up one table.

After reading these reviews and based on my own experience, I won't be coming back to this location again.

Consistently good
Submitted Monday, July 23, 2007 - 1:29pm [Dine in]

As always, I was happy after I left the Boathouse. I had the halibut/salmon duo (special) and though I wouldn't order this again b/c of the flavour of the sweet chili thai sauce, I'd go back and have the scallops that my friend had.

Shrimp skillet appy (8 pieces of shrimp) had a good flavour and was a good size. Bread was soft and hot.

Service was good as always. Waiter was friendly and patient (there were 12 of us).

Fishy scallop cones and lots of flies
Submitted Monday, July 23, 2007 - 1:20pm [Dine in]

I went there in a group of 10 the past Thursday evening for AYCE. The restaurant was pretty much empty as it seemed like there was only one other party there.

The smaller menu ($16.95) had enough variety so we went with that menu rather than the $21 something one. The tuna and salmon sashimi were fine but the chopped scallop cones were terrible. It seemed like some people got decently fresh scallop whereas other people (like myself) got terribly fishy scallop. It was disgusting and I had to throw it out. I was looking forward to the beef tataki but when I saw just how red it was, it scared me. I know it's supposed to be red but I've never eaten it THAT red before. The guys in my group ate it though and seemed fine afterward! The chicken udon soup had a bad flavour. I've never had (supposedly) Japanese soup taste so non-Japanese before. And it was oily. The gomae ae was salty.

I give this place a 2 for the food rating just b/c the other items like tempura, salmon/tuna sashimi, and rolls were fine.

There were flies. The tables were sticky. Some of the seats were dirty and some had parts of the cushion missing. My friend's napkin wasn't even from the restaurant (different pattern) and had someone's pen writing in it.

Service - slow and bad. Each time we asked the waitress for something (napkins and tea), she looked as if she didn't understand and was SLOW bringing it. Especially the tea. Speaking of which, when we asked for more tea they just brought us hot water, assuming that the tea leaves leftover in our cups would be sufficient.

All in all, I'll never go back.

Nice atmosphere
Submitted Saturday, July 14, 2007 - 3:08am [Dine in]

It was my first time to Chambar and it wasn't the best I've ever experienced but I'd definitely go back one day. Our server was very friendly and for the most part, very attentive, except for when the bill came. My credit card was waiting to be taken for the longest time...but besides that...

The alcohol is expensive. $10.50 for a glass of rose wine. Most glasses of wine were in the $9-$11 range.

My entree was the salmon and for $24 I was expecting more. Sure it was good, but I will not go back to have the salmon again. (I'd go to the Boathouse for that). The fettucine that accompanied it was a good amount. All the flavours were good however.

My date had the mussels. They weren't to die for but were solid. Tasty. Clean. Good size.

We had the belgian waffles as dessert. Although it was good, it was pricey considering the size of the waffle. The blueberry sauce was good but they could have added more ice cream!

So all in all, I'd go back, but this wouldn't be my first choice due to the price.

Great service once again
Submitted Saturday, July 14, 2007 - 2:57am [Dine in]

I went again, but this time for the $25 three course Table d’Hote menu choosing the beef carpaccio, prime rib, and chocolate pie. Beef carpaccio was a generous amount and very tasty. Prime rib - this was where I had a slightly puzzled look on my face. My plate contained a lot of water..."gravy". I soaked it up with the bread (which was hot and soft by the way) but I still would have preferred my plate watery-gravy-less. Anyway, the prime rib was good and the horseraddish was awesome (again). The chocolate pie was also a generous amount and also very good.

I was there on a Thursday night and there weren't too many people. The server was very attentive and polite.

So even though my prime rib plate had a bit too much water, I'd still go back and this time, tear myself away from the $25 three course meal (what a steal!) and actually order from the regular menu.

Wouldn't go back there again
Submitted Sunday, July 8, 2007 - 6:36pm [Dine in]

The bread was hot and flavourful which was nice.
I had one of the specials - angelhair pasta with some sort of curry sauce and then ravioli on the other side of the plate. The angelhair part of my dish was a bit dry and the noodles stuck together. The ravioli was harder than I expected. The flavours of the overall dish was fine (but I've had better) but just the texture of the pasta threw me off. Also, I didn't find the servers genuinely friendly.

Definitely a nice family run restaurant. The food was good and portions were good too. I'd go back there again to try the other non-pasta items.

I went there on a Monday evening and all the tables were taken. The lady working there (wife I assume?) was very friendly.
