Samba FOREVER
Submitted Wednesday, September 14, 2011 - 10:56am [Dine in]

It is always funny. Always good time. The food is unbeliveable, if you go just for the "picana" it's enough, but the lamb, Wild Boar, beef ribs slow cooked, tri tips, two cuts of pork and go on. Autentic "Feijoada" ( the black beans), etc... I went there with a group on sat. Restaurant packed, people everywhere, HOT by the way, and the service was amazing, never stoped, meet cutters runnig around with skewers all the time, I don't know how they control that madness, but as matter of fact they did. Servers always helping us, cleaning tables, changing dirty plates, bringing whatever we ordered. This night the show was amazing with a short guy doing incredible acrobacies and the beautiful girls dancing around and WITH US. I understand the restaurant was too crowded but it is part of the fun. Who care about dead places? I go and I go and I go to Samba FOREVER

Gimme a break Stepho's
Submitted Tuesday, August 2, 2011 - 4:02pm [Dine in]

I don't go to Stepho's very often, but I guess this was the last time. Line up as usual, but inside lots of empty tables. Are they lazy, not professionals or just the line up is a market? Amazing. Lots of people waiting and lots of dirty tables, empties. Service is the worst in Vancouver. It seems they are forced to serve you. Never smile, or a simple cortesy was made. Food: lamb is not bad, calamari taste like paper, prawns no taste but garlic, and so and so and so. STEPHO'S: I'm done

Forget About it
Submitted Saturday, July 30, 2011 - 6:01pm [Dine in]

Awfull. Nothing is going well at this place. The servers are not pleasant to serve you. Or they do not like people, or they do not like their jobs, or they are instructed to act like this. How bad can be? Too bad. Food wise is complicated, some times they have good raw fish, but they are confused or they do not read the orders properly. Never comes what we ordered or expected. The patio is OK,but is not enough. Never go back.

Only ambience will not be enough
Submitted Saturday, September 4, 2010 - 12:44pm [Dine in]

I drove to this place for the second time.Isn't a cheap place, the ambience is super modern, the sushi is really fresh, but the hot food is very mediocre. Well presented but that's all. The service is amazingly bad. I never saw a "first class" place with so many servers, bussers, bartenders, MANAGERS and the service is nothing. Those boss can not see what's happening? Why they do not check the tables to listen what's wrong with the service. Again isn't a cheap place, the service MUST be improved. my hint to te owners: hire professionals to handle this place (experienced managers). Lots of potential.

Bad food, Bad service
Submitted Saturday, September 4, 2010 - 12:34pm [Dine in]

Marcelois very cosistent. I mean, every time I go there the service is horrible and the food same old, tasteless. I try for 4 times but I gave up. The servers treat you as they are doing a favor, not as a professional. The food means nothing. I try and try, and try,but no more. I hope some owner read this and try to fix it. I'm really a pizza lover and I'd love to have lots of options.

Submitted Monday, September 22, 2008 - 5:19pm [Dine in]

Was a memorable night. The ambience very good, the food incredible, appies main courses and desserts, everything perfect. The service could be a little better. It's not a cheap place, everything has a good taste, furniture, decor, utensils, glasses, etc. Very well done restaurant. The highlight is the food, no doubt. Perfect timming, temperature, taste and presentation. Go fish - you can't go wrong, despite my friend had scallops ant they were great too. Cheers C

Not good experience
Submitted Monday, September 22, 2008 - 5:12pm [Dine in]

My date and I went to that place for lunch. After wait for 15 min a server came to greet us and give us some water, left again. More 10 minutes and came to order. The menu very poor, we asked for baked eggplant as appie and pasta after that. Everything came at the same time. The eggplant was OK the rest URGGH, but the service was the champ. The most horrible that I've seen. No refils for water, my wine, I had to serve myself and my date everytime, when the bottle was emptied no one offers another one. The bill took forever, etc. I'll not come back.

Not at all
Submitted Monday, September 22, 2008 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

If someone ask me if I'return to this place, this is my answer: Not at all. Those guys are thinking we are stupids. The "American"way to BBQ is no loger atractive any more. Tooooo greeease, same taste for everything, only BBQ sauce flavour. The pulled pork is so bad that I coul'dn't eat, the rib - too bad. An the guys look at you as they are doing favour. Hey people wake up. May be in Memphis, Atlanta or floria, but not here.

Submitted Monday, September 15, 2008 - 1:42pm [Dine in]

We went for "music"session. We didn't make reservation. Not a problem, they gave us a good table, in front the bar. The waitress was a little bit lost, she tryed to be nice, but wasn't very professional. We had to ask for water more than once, our glasses always empties. She took very long with our drinks regardeless was wine. We had to ask for wecond bottle (she suppose to offer), but she was a "smiley person". The food was good. We didn't expect five star food but was better than the expectation. And then lets talk about the music. Very nice. Not to low not too loud, good selection and the players super profissionals. The only problem are the breaks. Toooo loooonnng. We thought they finished and almost asked our bill, when they came back after 45 min. toooo looonng. But was a great evening.

Good evening
Submitted Sunday, September 14, 2008 - 10:10pm [Dine in]

Was a good evening. My friends came from Seattle and we had good time at Boathouse. We took 30 min for a good table at the patio. Meanwhile we hang out at the bar. The bartender super profissional, gave us some cocktails suggestions and we had some befor got the table. Wine list very common, nothing special and we had a cab. The food was OK, nothing special too but decent. Not the most delicious food of our lives but exactly what they offer. Service very good, despite the house was full. I'll come back.

Submitted Saturday, September 13, 2008 - 3:04pm [Dine in]

After a fiasco we went to try the Moxie's. My god, why? definetelly was a bad day. Moxie's have the worst service in the world. Servers are agressives or just ignore us. The food it's like Mc Donalds, tasteless and no creativity. May be they growth up to much (the chain) and have noone to look the business for them. Some amateurs are running the show. I realize the empty restaurant, now I know why. Decoration nice, atmosphere Ok,but again, service and food sucks.

We went to this place to have steaks (I'm a steak's big fan) and what I found? Well done steaks, long wait, and not friendly service. We couldn't talk with the servers, managers or supervisors. They didn't cara about us. Desserts like 3 months old, not good wine list. We have to had beer. I suggest the owner look close to his business. Not only a good location can suport a restaurant, but good service and kitchen staff too. It's up to you bro.

Simple restaurant , simple food service below average. Ambience OK. Nothing to expect beyond the most usual kitchen. I hated? No. I loved? No. I'll come back? problably not. It's one shot restaurant. If you are lucky, can have a table at the patio and enjoy some refreshments, if not you can in and out in 15 minutes.
that's it.

Just relax
Submitted Saturday, September 13, 2008 - 12:23pm [Dine in]

Yes. Go and relax. Let them work for you and you will be in haven.
There's a band playng without bother you, not annoyng like others place. The ambience is classic, but not heavy or dark, service very friendly, just need to be more knowledgeble about the wine list and cocktails, and not serve only water. Washrooms always cleaned. Lets talk about the food... Starts with a well design menu, and then the appies. All good but if you try the crab cakes WOW - best in town. Main dishes are impecable, taste and presentation. Sorry americans chefs but in Vancouver you guys can learn too.The menu different og the decro is very modern, "dynamic" I'd say. Did you try the creme brulee in 3 differents versions, NO? You have to, is amazing.
One of the best place in Vancouver, for sure.

Submitted Saturday, September 13, 2008 - 12:13pm [Dine in]

This is by far the best thai in BC. The food is fantastic. The decor is simple but good taste, service, well, nothing to talking about, not good, not bad, but the food...ah the food. Pad thai the way to have to be, the curry prawns gorgeous, chicken and whatever you order will be fantastic. Small place, small crew, big flavours. Congrats.

Good Marketing move
Submitted Saturday, September 13, 2008 - 12:08pm [Dine in]

All about marketing. Really is an intelligent market strategy. "Food architet", new "fancy menu", "local ingridients" etc... MARKETING - well done, by the way. In reallity the foods is just OK, nothing new. The service is the weakest point at all. The ambience is very impressive. Modern, clean, wild. Worth a visit. The ambience pay for it self. But why not to invest in people too. A good and experienced manager can give a new form to the service. Not only beautties, but pros. Is my suggestion. I'll be back? yes, I'll.

Doesn't matter if seafood, poultry or tenderloin, all good, better, all incredible. The service is good too but not that impressive. If you have visitor out of town, go Crocodile. No mistakes.

So,So
Submitted Wednesday, August 27, 2008 - 11:59am [Dine in]

We went (party of 5) to The Italian Kitchen even knowing (from friends), that the place is not a 5 star place. The hostess was lost as her supervisor was too. She put in a small table where we couldn't stay. We were in Five, remember? We asked the manager but the man was lost. All depend of the hostess. We moved for a corner...
Asked drinks, fine. Wine and beer no problem, but no water refills. We have to wave and wave. The servers were more concerned in have olimpics conversation. Again, the supervisor involved.
The food - not a big deal at all. Wrong temperature and took too long.
The place is a new place, well renovated but the owner was too greedy and put more tables then the place and the staff can handle. Again the worst was the service. I'll come back to see improvements ( I hope ).

Submitted Tuesday, August 26, 2008 - 2:14pm [Dine in]

What's happen with the kitchen? Everything looks like plastic (sauces). The food took tooooo loooong, the taste toooo baaaaaaddd. We did try to talk to the server about and he didn't care and even didn't call the supervisor or whoever was in charge, to explain us why was to bad. The beer was cold, at least. The ambience isn't nothing especial, everybody knows, but this time the food...arghh..

Good Place to Go
Submitted Tuesday, August 26, 2008 - 2:09pm [Dine in]

I went there for dinner last Saturday with 5 friends. We asked for appies - well done. Main course, pretty good also, very consistent, nothing to complain at all. The desserts OK, could be a little better. Wine list with good options. The service was the weak point of our visit. Nothing exceptional, and we had to wave lots of time to our server, but It's a ggod place to go, really.
