Breakfast at Jims is unlikely to disappoint. Since Jasna took over she has been improving the decor a bit at a time and it is now quite pleasant and comfortable. There is always a lineup for breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings because we know we will get good, comforting bacon and egg type breakfasts, quickly, at a modest price.
It's a Starbucks. What more need be said. They make great tea, and good iced tea. The food is made elsewhere and is predictable and adequate. Prices are high. But, they are here in the neighbourhood, an when we want to go for a walk and enjoy coffee and a treat on the patio, we're really pleased they are here. They seem to do good hiring because the staff is reliably fast, efficient and cheerful A welcoming place.
Since this modest restaurant used to be a greasy donut shop, I approached it with caution. After my first meal I was hooked. Each dish I've had was a pleasure. The lunch menu is good value, coming with rice and spring roll. I generally eat one of the stir fries, and the veg are always fresh, the flavour excellent. I love the fact that I can get a healthy meal and still enjoy an exotic treat. And, it is great that almost all the dishes can be made vegetarian just by choosing the soy protein. My only complaint is that it gets very hot inside when the weather is hot out. There a patio, but the noise of the Columbia and Braid intersection make that less than pleasant until evening.
A friend and I wanted to stay in New West, but also wanted someplace to sit outside and enjoy dinner in this beautiful summer we are enjoying. The Boathouse seemed like a good choice. Was it ever. We both ordered the mixed seafood grilled on a plank. Two perfectly grilled scallops, a small piece of halibut and salmon, each cooked perfectly served with beautifully fresh steamed green beans. The dinner was not only delicious, it was healthy, in portion and prep. A rare treat these days. And, the location, watching the sunset over the Fraser couldn't have been better.
Walk in early in the morning and you are transported to France, the smell of the baking with real butter is sublime. Delightful sweet treats. Beautiful cakes. Wonderful bread. Definitely worth a trip for some of the ganache. Now that they have a little place to sit in front and enjoy a coffee with your baked treat, its even better.
