Why the hell did they open one here?
Submitted Wednesday, December 31, 2008 - 7:07pm [Dine in]

Don't the people who own "Zakkushi" know that main street is ghetto, where no one is gonna be paying a damn $11 dollars for a spider roll where they worked the whole day for? The service is rotten, just like any other Zakkushi, I guess it's their training motto: Feed customers quickly and kick them out ASAP!! The other seeming 'good' reviews for this restaurant are suspicious because if you really dined here, experienced the service and eaten the junk they give you would not return. There plenty of better sushi restaurants on main street, don't go to this one people.

Straight up, I come here a few times a week and love the experience. The best pho, the biggest skewers and rice/vermicelli portions in Vancouver. They give you really big portions of beef in the pho that will leave you very satisfied. The soup is to die for, it's awesome. This restaurant has left e pretty speechless, just try it, you will not forget it!!

It's supposed to be like that!
Submitted Sunday, December 28, 2008 - 10:44pm [Dine in]

I have previously visited this bakery many times and really enjoyed their sliced black forest cake, so I decided to order one for my dad's birthday. I ordered an 8 inch black forest cake, expecting it to be of great quality, but received a cake that had a funny smell (like skunk) and had cherries that were brown, old and disgusting to the palate.

I obviously wanted another cake, so called the bakery and the manager told me to bring the cake back. When I brought the cake back, she took it, and showed it to the baker. Her and the baker then used their fingers and took some pinches out of the cake, tasting it. They were mumbling to each other the whole time and the manager then turned around and said "It's supposed to be like that!" and when I told her that when I buy the sliced ones, they actually taste normal and not like garbage and she's tells me "Our black forest cake is like that, it's like that, that's how it's supposed to be you know?"

Obviously she was trying to tell me that I was supposed pay 40 bucks for a cake that was obviously cheapened out and had a foul taste and was suggesting that I shouldn't complain because that is how their product is supposed to be like. Come here if you want poor service where "customer's are not right" and old products with a no exchange policy.

Rude Servers and Greasy Food
Submitted Thursday, October 9, 2008 - 5:32pm [Dine in]

I ordered the seafood pancake and the BBQ chicken plate. Both came in the iron cast plates and as I was eating it, I realized that in both dishes, the bottom of the plate was drenched in about 1/4 cup of oil. WTF is up with that? I thought Korean food was supposed to be "healthy." That was digusting.

I gave the service a poor rating because even though we were greeted by a very nice gentleman, the boy who took our order was a complete arogant jerk who did not smile and acted like we were a charity case.

Not coming here again, and for people who want to try this place, do not be tricked by the "good" reviews of others.

Failed to redeem itself...
Submitted Friday, August 15, 2008 - 8:36pm [Dine in]

I came here when they first opened and had a terrible experience, but I am all about second chances so I came to try Kyung again. I ask myself why??????

First off, the waitors and waitresses are unresponsive to the customers. That's sad, considering that there was a sufficient amount of staff present when I went. The 5 items for $25 bucks is a rippppppp off, so don't do that. The 5 items I ordered were over cook and warm and tasteless. One of the items, the squid and kimchi pancake, was so greasy that I could not eat it. My friends had a bit of it and left the rest for the garbage.
I ordered the clay pot rice and wish I had not because the price was ridiculous for what I got: a THIN layer of rice with the usual veggies accompanying the rice where the rice was overdone and the veggies were alittle wilted.

I will never come here again, there are many other korean restaurants that are miles better than Kyung, so don't come here you'll be wasting your money.

What's up with all the good reviews??
Submitted Thursday, June 19, 2008 - 1:56pm [Dine in]

I am really disappointed with this restaurant because I decided to try it after all the good reviews. What did I get instead???
The pho I ordered came with broth that was so tasteless compared to my favourite vietnamese restaurant on main street. The lemon grass chicken was the worst I have ever had because there was so much skin and it was so greasy and had more basil than noodles that after eating it, I needed to hurl.
I guess the people that eat here and submit excellent reviews are either nontasters or they work for the restaurant.
Don't line up here for their food, it's bad... go down a few blocks to 25th and main :D

Overpriced??
Submitted Thursday, June 19, 2008 - 1:47pm [Dine in]

Although the food is not bad here, it's nothing special either. Along with that, the food is way over priced considering being in Richmond, you can find more restuarants with this HK style cafe food for alot less and alot better.
The service is mediocre for the prices they charge on their dishes and infact, they act like their employed by a really fancy 5 star restuarant (i.e. snobs).
I have had alot of better tasting, better quality and service cafe food at other places and this place is not recommended.

Brown sugar...?
Submitted Thursday, June 19, 2008 - 1:43pm [Dine in]

I used to go to this place alot. Until the owner of this place refused to give me brown sugar. The booth where I was sitting at had no more little brown sugar packs and I asked her for some. She looked at me (as if I was from another planet) and told me "No more!" while, it was visible there was some because there were many packets at the other tables.

When she left, I then asked a waitress for some and she grabbed me a few packs. The owner is not a generous person and therefore I am not a generous customer and will not come again.

VERY dissapointed.

Dairy Queen821 Denman Street, Vancouver
solid fast food joint
Submitted Wednesday, June 4, 2008 - 5:38pm [Dine in]

First of all, the wait time for burgers are a bit longer than McDonalds, but because they always make them fresh when you order. The burgers taste like real beef, and they are always fresh and juicy. The chicken burgers are exceptionally tasty, and they either fry or grill it right away, and are very flavorful. The onion rings are made out from real onions, and not from some powdered onion "stuff". The soft serve is yummy. If you are in a hurry, the soft serve is always fast, maybe about 1 minute tops from the time you order. The place is nicely lit, and tables are always clean, theres also a cool patio. I would go to this Dairy Queen anytime, and its still worth the wait, because of the fresh, good quality food they serve, compared to most fast-food joints.

Good Restaurant???
Submitted Thursday, January 17, 2008 - 8:12pm [Dine in]

I was waiting out the door for them to open one cold winter night with my stomach rumbling with hunger and eager to try the BBQ that they are so called "famous" for. Boy was that a mistake...

First off, when directed to our seat by the host whose English was not understandable we had to sit in the seats that you have to take your shoes off for and then awkwardly climb into because we did not make reservations. Fine, fine, I'll sit there I said I am not going to let you ruin my BBQ night even thought I felt highly uncomfortable with my feet lacking protection from their dirty restaurant carpet. So as I made my way in, they did not even have the courtesy to set up the little mats for us ahead of time and instead one man walked up to us and just shoved the mats to us as we were crawling through... can you tell how I am liking this place?

Then when we ordered, the food arrived promptly. However it was very disappointing. I would rather have had the BBQ chefs take a longer time cooking then to have it the way it did when it arrived: over salted teeny-tiny chicken wings on a skewer, tasteless chicken thighs that were the size of my pinky, and a tasteless poorly prepared Udon that came with rancid pork.

Not only was the food poor but the waiters lacked common courtesy entirely. All they want is the money and shoving as many people into their restaurant a night as they can. And, this is accomplished by rushing the customers that actually come early and wait outside the door expecting to get a reasonable time to eat. Sure they do not actually say “Get out, your time is up,” but the waiters give you dirty looks when we sat around for 3 minutes after finishing our sickening food that we had ordered.

The owners of this restaurant charge way too much for the amount of food the customers receive and how they receive it. I would not recommend this place to anyone ever.

Just to make it clear, I am not in agreeance with all the bad reviews below about service and such.
For the price they charge, I find that the restuarant does a really good job in keeping their food quality and taste far from adequate. Everytime I have went, I have recieved friendly and efficient service whether it was recieving food or ordering for it. They also have a comment box and the option of take-out so if picky people who want both cheap food and 5 star service can have other options.

Never Coming Again
Submitted Friday, November 9, 2007 - 8:39pm [Dine in]

Returning to this restaurant has made me realize that my first review was not accurate. This is why:

We were seated quite promptly by the hostess and our order was taken within a timely manner. However, there was a different story for our food. My mom ordered her own mini meal and it came 10 minutes after ordering. That seems fair and it is indeed. My sister and I had already waited 40 minutes for our 2 dishes and the dishes STILL did not appear yet (by the way, the restaurant had only a few tables) We watched our mother eat her dish and she finished the dish before our food came. (Of course she finished her dish in 40 minutes, who wouldn't).

When we told the waitress A to check on our order, she rolled her eyes at us and gave an annoyed sigh. We did not hear back from her.

We then waved at waitress B and told her that we had been waiting 40 minutes for our food, she said (and I quote, from waitress B) "Kitchen wery busy. Dey haf to wash wok afta make 1 dish." I told her that do they not do that regularly? Then, I told her I wanted to speak with the manager. The manager said pretty much the same thing. After waiting an hour, we finally got one of our dishes. As we ate hungrily, our second dish came 20 minutes afterwards.

I was obviously unsatisfied with the service I received from their low class and ill trained waitresses. I was also not pleased with the way the manger handled the situation because when I left, I told her which waitress did what and she just nodded her head and said “Ok, Ok” which made me realize that she was not going to address what had went on that day.

Do not come to this restaurant. I am not the only person who is telling you this; the person below me is too. If two people are telling you not to come to this restaurant that is already too many. You should take our advice.

Turn away... quickly!!!
Submitted Friday, November 9, 2007 - 7:21pm [Dine in]

When my friend and I went inside to the Pita Pitt, there was no one on till to take our orders. There were two people making the pitas, one actually doing his job and the other man just talking to the guy making the pitas. We stood in line and waited for the guy that took the till to come because the slacker said he would in a "little while". he did not come for 15 minutes. after ordering, we had to wait another 20 minutes for our pita. My pita consisted of raw chicken, can you believe I waited 35 minutes for a raw chicken pita? No quality control in the food they serve and the people who serve you the food look like cavemen.
A note to hungry UBC students, don't come, it's as simple as that.

lousy service...
Submitted Saturday, July 21, 2007 - 9:12pm [Dine in]

My friend and I were hungry for good Chinese food along Main Street so we wandered into this restaurant. When we arrived, it was during the lunch hour and we wanted to sit in a booth. There was, three empty booths where no one was sitting at so we asked to sit in one of them. The waitress said, "NO! Someone sit there", and these were her exact words. However, there was no one sitting in any of them and they did not have a reserved sign either. She pointed to a seat that was half a booth, but the other half of the booth was gone and it was a wall. So she expected my friend and I to eat facing a wall. How ridiculous. When I said I would wait for a booth, she said, "NO! Booth ALL taken" and forced my friend and I to sit there. When we did, she failed to bring us the menus and tea until at least ten minutes later. And, within those ten minutes, no one came to occupy the empty booths. The food we ordered tasted okay, nothing special. In fact, it was quite greasy when it is compared to the other HK style cafes available in Vancouver. While we were eating, there were random people who came in and sat in those booths so, as a matter of fact, they were not taken. I will NEVER come here again. It has ridiculously poor service (if there was a zero rating for service, I would give it that), and very greasy food which is poor for your health.

Talk 'bout bad service
Submitted Saturday, July 14, 2007 - 10:41pm [Dine in]

I wandered into this restaurant not knowing what to expect since there was no one inside on a Friday night around 630pm. The hostess/waitress who was behind the counter failed to see us for at least five minutes. We were not seated until the manager came out to direct us to a booth seat. So, we had a bad first impression of this restaurant already. After ordering Asian dishes, we were not given proper utensils to suit our meal. When we waved at the waitress for chopsticks she told the manager that they had already ordered and that they did not need anything else. I was so offended that I made a mental note to never return to this restaurant again. When the food came, it was mediocre, nothing special. I would recommend other Hong Kong cafes in Richmond instead of this one.

Finally tried it. In a nutshell, this place is horrible. Sure it LOOKS like a cool place to chat and dine with your friends, but be careful because looks are deceiving. I had to wait 20 minutes to order my pricy drink and the all you can eat fondue. I ordered a fresh fruit mango bubble tea but what I received was terrible. I watched them make it and what was put into my drink was 1 tiny mango slice and the rest of the blender was filled up with ice. Then, after they made it, I waited another 10 minutes to be served my drink. I tasted it, and of course, it tasted horrible. I asked kindly for a refund, but was not given one because they said I drank too much of it, when I only took a sip. As for the fondue, my friends who have tried it before said that it was better when they initially started their business. Now the fondue tastes not light with pungently strong chocolate, but heavy and chalky, like they use cheap chocolate but try to cover it up with a lot of fat. Sure try this place if you want poor service and down right disgusting food.
