Faithful 'Hood Haunt

No one else has submitted a review for the Dish?! Aww!

The Dish has been around forever, and is loved for its fresh salads, delicious cookies, and fresh juices. The main dishes are usually pretty decent, but there is the occasional stale chicken wrap to contend with.

The decor has GOT to go though! Dirty, dingy, dull, and dreary. Totally brings the place down a notch.

Big City Sushi

I have eaten at this restaurant at least 100 times, and on average I would say it deserves no less than 4.5 stars out of 5 on all counts. Being a loyal customer has benefits, and I have never been served anything that wasn't fresh, plentiful, and fast by a team of very hard working people who take pride in what they do. The truth is I have observed the same level of effort extended to all first timers, and even the occasional rude bad apples, but everyone is allowed an off night.

While I usually opt for the vegetarian fare, my loyal sushi companion knows no limits and indulges in whatever the chef recommends, frequently resulting in spectacular presentations and the very best in fresh. I've been there by myself, with my friend, a party of 6, and a party of 14 and was amazed each time by the incredible speed and service of the friendly staff.

I think a major consideration for this restaurant is timing. If you want good food fast go in for the lunch or dinner rush hour or grab take-out, but if you want to go and linger over starters, sashimi, sake and specialties make a reservation for a mid-afternoon feast or later dinner.

They are opening a new location overlooking English Bay (Davie & Denman) that promises the same great food, but hopefully with a better view, (sorry Davie location - the menu on the window is a little much).

Kadoya!
