I was in Victoria for a conference and liked the ad for Ric's Grill. It also seemed to be known for their steak.
We found out Wednesdays are 25% off the bottle price, so we started off with a Coppola Claret and warm bread--yum. The salads were included in the entree price and okay--pre-dressed too much.
My partner had the prime rib steak--delicious taste and texture. Paired with the claret, it was fantastic.
I had the BBQ ribs. I spit out bits of broken bone after broken bone. My partner called the server over and it was taken away. The manager apologized and gave us the BBQ ribs on the house and I didn't wait too long for a new set of ribs. I only ended up eating a quarter of them, but was very happy with the way they handled things. I tipped the server twice the price of the ribs as he was stellar.
So I ate my leftovers the next day. Sixteen broken bits of bone in all. So I had to write this review to tell the good and the bad.
I ordered edamame and tea. It took 30 minutes. We waited for the bill for 10 minutes and ended up going up to the bar to pay.
The interior was nice. It can accommodate large groups at the last minute.
The adjacent Liquor Barn prices are marked up so you may want to go to a regular liquor store. The wines at Kensington Wine store in Kensington Mall are priced properly.
Took my honey here for a birthday dinner.
He was planning to have the filet mignon and I was going to have the roasted prime rib. But the chef's special was too good of a deal to pass up. Three medallion-sized steak cuts (new york, filet mignon, and rib steak), one lamb chop, one king crab leg, and two sides in a mushroom sauce for $55.00. Gristle on the new york cut and okay rib steak.
I will try this place a second time because the rare filet mignon was outstanding--tender and flavourful. Aged well. Service was fun and professional--delivered a dessert with my honey's name written in cream on the plate.
My overall rating is always based on food quality.
The Sable Fish--tender, succulent, flavourful, as only fresh fish can be. Tapastree is the only way. Excellent service with friendly and professional recommendations offered in just the right amount--they read their clientele very well. Warm lighting.
So many people had recommended this place so I went for Christmas dinner with my honey.
Food quality is the most important thing to me. Salad was overpowered by blue cheese and tart plums. Fairly well-cooked cod was overpowered by the balsamic reduction sauce--salty. Bread pudding was the best with caramel sauce and ice cream. Service was attentive, but not knowledgeable about the menu or wine. Dirty silverware. Would rather spend the money at Tapastree.
