Yes, I said it. I regret going to the Red Burrito today.
My son had asked to go and have fish and chips at the cafe down the road, but I was set on having Red Burrito. I remembered going to the Red Burrito on Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver and just loving it. Not as good as the Mexican food you can get down in the States and short of the fusion Californian/Mexican food I used to love at the now defunct Cafe Norte , but good enough to crave it! My son reluctantly agreed and we both ordered the Chicken Fajita.
I bit in and thought I broke a tooth on the chicken. The chicken was so old and overcooked, it was nearly petrified. I can overlook one piece of dry, ancient chicken, but my entire fajita consisted of this inedible chicken. I was so hungry, I actually considered just picking it all out and eating it anyway, but the part of me that wanted to enjoy my experience would not allow me. I took it back and explained what had happened in a respectful tone. The ladies behind the counter all spoke to one another in a flurry of Spanish and then without so much as an apology, they silently made me another. I didn't mind, I just wanted the delicious food I knew this chain is capable of delivering. I thanked them very much and looked forward to having a new and improved fajita.
I sat down, bit in and lo and behold - the same, dried up, old chicken. I could not be bothered at this time to angrily demand my money back. I was too tired and too hungry. I picked out the hard bits, ate what I could and took a picture to remind myself - NEVER AGAIN.
Save your money. I don't think they care about the product they are serving.
