Ginger & Soy is a wonderful new Chinese restaurant that has opened in the old VIP's location at Marine Drive and 15th in West Vancouver.
G&S serves slightly up-scale Chinese dishes with an emphasis on quality and flavour. The lunch special portions could be a bit larger but the dinner portions are great. Since discovering G&S a couple of weeks ago, we have introduced many of our friends to it and everyone, including my picky neighbour, loves it.
The lunch specials are $9 to $12 and come with steamed rice and a soup - the seafood hot & sour is terrific. Most of the special dishes are $9 so it is about average for the area. So far, we've tried the Beef with Scallions $9 (my wife's favourite), the Honey Garlic Pork Loin $9, and the Spicy Kung Pao Prawns $13. Everything was delicious with high quality products handled with a light touch. No thick, heavy sauces here.
The dinner menu and Chef's Recommendations are $12 to $14 with a few seafood items a bit higher. Based on the owner's recommendation, I tried the Shanghai Rice Noodle Medallions $14 with julienned pork and cabbage. Very differnt from any Chinese dish I've ever had and fabulous! The dishes are slightly more expensive then your average Chinese restaurant but this is no average Chinese food.
Service is first-class and staff is very friendly and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your meal. The decor is comtemporary and stylish. My wife also wants me to mention the cleaniness - she was very impressed.
I suggest that you try G&S for lunch or take-out and see if you like it. We love this place and hope you will too.
