The BEST place from Brunch in Vancouver
Submitted Saturday, December 4, 2010 - 10:39pm [Dine in]

This is one of our most favorite restaurants for brunch. The eggs benny are AMAZING!!!! It's a SUPER tiny place near Enlgish Bay, but the food is SO good. Service is average, value of food for what you get is pretty good too. Food is super flavorful and their eggs benny are served with an amazing garlic yogurt sauce instead of the heavy, tradional fatty hollandaise. The meal comes with roasted and yam potatoes and a small green salad. Both amazing as well. I have also had some of their phyllo pastry, and yet again, is amazing as well. It will continue to be on the top of our list for BEST places to go for brunch. Highly recommended.

I have to say that our experience here was less than impressive. I took my brother here who was visiting from Calgary, as I had heard good things about the restaurant. WRONG. From the moment we walked into the place we were treated like we weren't worth the servers time. It was ridiculously crowded (tiny, tiny place), we were sat at a tiny table (you are pretty much squished against your neighbours), and the music they had playing was ridiculously loud, you could barely have a conversation with one another at your table. I asked the waitress if she could turn the music down just a tad and she outright told me no. Our service was TERRIBLE. We waited 20 mins for our drinks, the waitress gave us TOTAL attitude when ordering, and then it took about an hour to get our food. We were so hungry waiting that we finally ordered salsa and chips, which also took a bit to get. The salsa and chips were pretty good however, the chips are served fresh and hot with a great array of salsas. All of us ordered soft taco's and while the taco's were VERY tasty, you don't really get much for what you pay for. They give you rice and beans with it, which is basically a filler.

All in all, we had a terrible experience here. The food was good, but not worth the choatic and loud ambiance, as well as the terrible, poor service from waiter's that have massive attitude and ego's. Their sister restaurant - Me and Julio's is way better. If you're looking for Mexican, you might want to pass on this palce and head over there.

We live in Kerrisdale and love Vietnamese food, so we regularly frequent this place. It has a very nice and clean decor, the staff are super friendly, prompt and very polite.

You seriously can not beat the value of the food at this place. The servings are HUGE and the food is always good. Our favorites are the Rice Bowl dishes with Chicken or Pork with Imperial rolls. The brochette meals are also excellent as well as the salad rolls.

We frequent this restaurant at least a few times a month and are never disappointed. Highly recommended.

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised. The decor was definitely interesting with wooden tables, benches and perusian rugs on the walls. Ethnic music played in the background.

BEVERAGES: All we have heard about with this place is how good the chai is. We both had the Darjeeling Marsala Tea and it was absolutely amazing. The best chai I have had in Van anywhere. It is SUPER spicy, but SO GOOD!!! Water is served in stainless still glasses, with lemon, which is a nice touch.

FOOD: The menu is certainly not extensive; however, there seemed to be some good items. We decided to go with an appetizer salad and share a "feast" meal with the Silk Road Salmon and Spinach Paneer as our entree's. The salad was good with lots of vegetables, served with an excellent hummous; however the salad in itself had no dressing on it, so I found it to be a bit bland. I really liked the addition of the beet and fresh herbs though. The "feast" dinner we found very good. It's not huge, but by the end of the dish we had eaten everything and were FULL. The Dahl Soup was excellent with tons of flavor, the tabboulli salad was good (nothing special). The salmon was excellent and the Paneer was good as well, but quite spinachy (not as creamy as we expected). The rice was also good. We were actually impressed with how good the food tasted.

VALUE: A little bit more on the pricey side, but I certainly don't think the food is overpriced, for what you get. The portion sizes could be a bit bigger, but by the end of the meal we were full.

SERVICE: We had no proble with the service. Our waiter was friendly, polite, attentive and prompt with the cheque. Food came out within a satisfying time frame.

Overall, we will definitely be back to try this restaurant again. It was a great experience!

One of our favorite restaurants
Submitted Saturday, December 4, 2010 - 9:44pm [Dine in]

My husband and I go to this restaurant on a regular basis. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Vancouver. We have been to QUITE a few Indian Restaurants in Van, and I would have to say that this restaurant is one of the best by far. It's a small place and the decor is a little bit outdated, but very comfortable with cushy benches. It's extremely well run and very clean. Tables have glass tops for easy turnover and the napkins are fabric (love that). I also love the heavy silverware and cutely designed plates. The only negative thing I have to say about the restaurant is that it seems to always be a little chilly inside the restaurant, so dress warm!!!

BEVERAGES: They don't have a huge wine list, but the wine is good. The chai is awesome (need to add sugar), and water refills are prompt.

FOOD: We ALWAYS order the same thing, so I can't comment on the entire menu, but they have a great selection. The cucumber, tomatoe salad as an appetizer is really good with a tasty dressing. We have had the pakoras once before and they were also good. Our most favorite dishes are the Chicken Masala and Chicken Spinach (Chicken Murgh). It is the BEST Masala I have ever tasted, and my husband LOVES the Murgh. We think the portions are an excellent size (we usually go home with leftovers), especially with rice and Naan. Their garlic Naan is AMAZING. We have tried the Butter Chicken; however I found it a bit bland compared to the Chicken Masala, so I've only ordered it once. We've also tried the Coconut Prawn Goa, and that was excellent!!

VALUE: For the amount of food you get, and the quality, I would say you definitely get your money's worth. I would say the menu is mid-range in price.

SERVICE: The service has always been excellent every time we go. Staff are friendly attentive and extremely polite. The food comes out quite quickly and is always hot, as the dishes come with heated candles underneath to keep the good warm.

We go to this restaurant about once every month, sometimes more and are never disappointed. Well recommended. You will love it!!

A Great Birthday Experience!
Submitted Monday, October 18, 2010 - 4:35pm [Dine in]

We celebrated my husband's 40th birthday party here with a group of about 24 people. I was a bit concerned about going here after reading the reviews of the restaurant; however, our group had a really great experience. I know a lot of people do not like the management at this restaurant, and I can see how some people would find the manager offensive (he has a very harsh sense of humor), but all in all, I didn't have any problems dealing with him and we really enjoyed our food, as well as the service.

Everyone found the food, from the appetizers, entree's and dessert very good. I definitely think the entree's could be a bit bigger, in terms of the quantity of food; however, everything we had tasted very good. The service was absolutely excellent. All of the servers were extremely attentive and pleasant, the food came out well timed for a group of 25 people. The wine was excellent, as well as the after dinner coffee.

It is a super tiny place, but a great little restaurant for small celebrations. We all enjoyed the experience thoroughly and will definitely be back!! : )
