Did this place change management?
Submitted Friday, July 1, 2011 - 8:14pm [Dine in]

Third visit to Taste of Punjab; last visit was six months or so ago. This place is completely different from our last visit. We ordered two dishes and nan, this restaurant was not particularly busy but food took 40 minutes to come out. That was ok as it took that long during both our other visits so we were expecting that.

What was not acceptable was a single plate of rice was brought out to us even though we had ordered two curry dishes. It was hardly enough; when we asked for another plate, a charge of $2.50 was added. This makes no sense at all since one person ordering a curry dish would get the exact same plate of rice so two curry dishes ordered would include enough rice for two people rather than charging an extra fee.

Chicken Vindaloo was dry but acceptable. Food is ok but could have swore it was better before.
Got the $2.50 charge reversed but based on common reasoning, the charge should not have been there in the first place.

Wondering if this place has a new management team? Gone downhill, service is non-existent, they just don't seem to care about running a restaurant. Poor experience, really too bad as we were actually looking forward to eating here. Meal came to $24 and change. Left $25 on the way out; haven't rebelled by not tipping for more than 10 years but this place didn't deserve any.

Had a slightly difficult time finding the restaurant but that's due to GPS accuracy and our lack of outings to Ladner. Had a window seat and both my partner and I ordered the set menu. Tables are close together as the room was a former living room but the live guitar and music made the ambiance cheerful.

Staff is friendly and owner greets customers.

Each dish was terrific and tasteful. Service was attentive. Great for a special night out but not for quick dining since one should expect the meal to last 2 hours for the set meal. The only dish that didn't appeal to us was the rabbit but that's a personal thing. All the dishes were great but dishes which stood out were the duck breast (main), salmon and the dessert.

Definitely worthwhile. Price is reasonable for the level of food. Another visit in six months!

Always Good

By far the most consistent restaurant in the lower mainland. Dishes come out exactly the same each and every time. Have visited during all service hours and stays the same.

Recommend the house special dumplings and hot and sour soup.
Only real complaint is the struggle for parking.

Service is good considering the workload for the staff and meals are a good value.

Good sushi but don't expect much else

Been to Sushi Garden many times, always busy during dinner hours so try to go a little bit earlier to avoid the lineups.

Having read the reviews, didn't have great expectations on the service and ambiance, which turned out to be exactly what most people said. The female servers weren't rude, but there's no smiles on their faces either. The food always comes fast, but sometimes the rolls have the tendency to fall apart. Otherwise, the quality is not too bad.

All in all, will go back just for the food and reasonable price for a quick meal.

Went last week and ordered pepper beef with rice. The size of the dishes had shrunk by at least 25% and the beef was chewy. The place was not as busy as before which explains alot. Will give it one more try but definitely not as confident it this restaurant. My companion ordered noodle and it turned out ok.

Much anticipated first visit
Submitted Saturday, May 8, 2010 - 4:46pm [Dine in]

Went to Vij after being scared off by line-ups during previous attempts. Got one of the last seats for the first sitting at 5pm. Service is definitely outstanding including the free snacks.

We had the beef tenderloin and lamb popsicle entrees while starting with the portobello mushroom appy. The lamb was perfectly and the sauce was excellent. My partner's beef tenderloin was slightly over-cooked but the sauce was still great. The meal came with rice and naan. Food wise, everything lived up to our expectations.

Ambiance of the room needed a change; it looked a bit dated. The bar at the back reminded me of lining up for the restroom at a club.

Will visit again but perhaps only once every six months or so.

After our meal, we visited Rangoli's for the pre-packaged meal (one package of chicken and beef each). Don't do this as its over-priced and under-delivers. We made the meals a couple days after purchase and anticipated a quality meal but were surprised to find small portions with very little sauce. Consequently, the protein was chewy and less then appetizing. For the money paid, you are better off just to have it at the restaurant.

Surprised and Shocked

Last visit was about 4 months ago. If you care about your health and your loved ones, then don't come here!

The first thing you notice is that the wasabi is in a jar...what is that? It's the only place I've ever been to that you have to scoop out your own wasabi and it's not even spicy!

On this visit, we ordered the usual rolls - dynamite, chopped scallop & spicy tuna. It was pretty busy so we had to sit at the bar, that was the beginning of the end. During the long wait for food, I made a visit to the washroom - big mistake...when I walked out of the washroom, the first thing I saw was a big tray of egg rolls exposed, waiting to cool down. By this time I had already lost my appetite, feeling slightly obnoxious. The sad part was that the boy sitting right next to us ordered 5 tamago sushi, I almost wanted to warn him not to eat it.

Such a shame as it started off well, thought the sushi had good value. But after this incident, I can't bring myself to go back ever again.

Been a regular patron for a number of years now, good place to hang out with friends for a late night drink and snacks.

Having said that, the service and food are both inconsistent - depends on the time of the day and the server you get.

Great bubble tea though, that's the primary reason why I always go back. Authentic and not too sweet, best bubble tea in the lower mainland!
