after reading a post on my friend's food blog, 604 foodotgraphy, i just had to try out this place for its 10 cent wings on weds. 10 cent wings? you can't go wrong with that!
there were an amazing 9 different flavours to choose from ranging from spicy thai to the usual salt and pepper. loved how the website had its menu up as well, a good sign already.
the place is a bit grungy looking, located just outside of the new westminster skytrain station but it was definitely packed at 8pm on a weds night. we sat ourselves down and were served prompty. my friend and i ordered about 48 wings between us (minimum 12 wing order) which came out to a ridiculous price of $4.80 between two people. of course, you had to order a drink with it as well but this was great value.
the wings were nice and juicy - i feared that they would've skimped on the quality of the chicken wings, but they were definitely comparable to flying beaver in richmond for its size. highly recommend this place, will go back again.
I love the atmosphere of this place, it's fun, vibrant and unique.
The food can be a hit or miss at times. I've ordered the jerk chicken here on many occasions. Sometimes, the chicken comes out just perfectly right, but on my most recent occasion, the chicken was way over-cooked and very dry. The bread that they serve at the beginning of the meal is a real treat though, especially when piping hot.
Yam fries are amazing here, but I'd have to say that the rest of the dishes are a hit and miss.
really
safeway bagels would be able to compare to the bagels here at solly's. not saying that they're poor, it's just that the cost is just way too high for what's actually being served. i've been in NYC on several occasions and you can get something comparable there for half the price that solly's is charging for its food.
we decided to try its breakfast bagel and its 'famous cinnamon buns'. again, you can get better cinnamon buns at other locations in the city. the texture of the cinnamon bun itself wasn't quite right so maybe it was off that day?
regardless, i would recommend coming here once. and that's it.
Honestly, out of all the jazz places in the city, this place is where it's at. I've been to them all, but I must say that I would keep coming back to Rossini's.
The setting is very chill, atmosphere is amazing. Food is so-so as mentioned below in other reviews, so I would suggest coming after dinner and enjoy some wine instead and maybe an evening stroll at kits beach afterwards? Sounds like a good date idea and you can't go wrong with that.
Despite the hype and ambient setting around Burgoo, this is just a place that serves fancy chunky Campbell's Soup.
Give me a nice looking white bowl from IKEA, fill it to the rim with chunky beef campbell soup, add some cornstarch for that "thick-looking" appearance and maybe some garnish on the top and viola, you have Burgoo.
Drinks are way overpriced, over $4 for Strawberry Lemonade? We came in during the late evening around 9pm and even then, the service was mediocre. One would think that on a weekday evening with a smaller group of customers, service would be a bit better but the servers were off on their own chatting away as the group sat around waiting for our check to arrive.
Next time I want Burgoo, I'll stay at home with my Chunky Campbell Soup.
Looking for a plate of steaming pasta? Definitely a great place to check out as it seems to be a hidden gem just outside the UBC area. Heaping amounts of pasta of your choice served with your choice of sauce as well, this place is great for a nice meal out.
The ambiance is definitely soothing. Seek for a table on the 2nd floor so you get a great view of the open kitchen as well as the passer-bys on the street below. Most dishes are under $15, service is attentive and will definitely try this place again.
This is my third time dining at Chilli House and the place always amazes me. This time, I came in with a large group of over 15 people and they were more than accommodating.
Located right by False Creek, it was the perfect setting for a nice dinner though it is a bit difficult to find than other restaurants. The free parking definitely makes up for it.
We had the duck curry, very flavourful and delicious along with the typical Pad Thai and pineapple fried rice. May be like slightly pricey but definitely well worth the value and quality of food. Amazing drinks as well, highly recommend this restaurant for all.
