Chicken with cashew nuts is amazing!

I like the fact that they add scallops to their pad thai, too. The yellow curry is wonderful - lots of chunks of potatoes, which you often won't get at other Thai places. Lunch specials are great if you are looking for good value.
The restaurant seems a little austere, atmosphere-wise, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it.

Food - great! Service - well . . .
Submitted Sunday, April 10, 2011 - 9:34pm [Dine in]

I went to Carver's Steakhouse recently for a friend's birthday.
I enjoyed the food immensely. The steak I ordered was prepared exactly as I had requested, and the sides were great too. Everyone else in our party really liked their food as well.
However, the service was way too slow. Our server didn't really seem to know what he was doing, and got flustered easily. I could see he was trying his best, but for a restaurant that's half full on a Saturday night, it was odd that we weren't served our meals more quickly.
Our bills took over 1/2 hour to get settled, as well. In all, dinner took over three hours, which was a lot longer than any of us thought it would take.
I'd go back for that steak, though!

Cute little place. Go if you're feeling nostalgic!

I agree with the other poster - the value of Zellers Cafe cannot be denied. It's been a tradition of sorts in my family to try and find a Zellers Cafe once in a while for lunch while we're out shopping. If you're into good old diner fare, it's a must-try, and the milkshakes are really top notch. Don't go, however, if you're looking for something a bit more upscale - this is not a hip nor trendy place. Solid food, cute 50's ambience and efficient service is what you'll get. The Coquitlam Centre location is the best one I've been too, as it's very clean and looks a bit more updated than the Burnaby Brentwood Mall location.

Cold!!!!
Submitted Thursday, January 20, 2011 - 4:12pm [Dine in]

Out of all of the Kegs I've been too over the years, I'd have to say that this location is definitely the COLDEST! To be fair, however, I visited this one in the dead of winter on one of the coldest nights of the year, but I had to wear my winter coat the entire time I was there. I think the heat must have conked out because most of the people around me were also wearing their coats. Otherwise, the food was decent and the service was as good as it always is at any Keg location. I think because the restaurant is located within the old train station, it's really drafty, probably almost year-round. But overall, a decent visit - next time, I'll just order a coffee to keep my hands warm!

Really, really good!
Submitted Thursday, January 20, 2011 - 4:02pm [Take-out]

Royal City Thai is such a welcome addition to downtown New West. Try the Pad Thai - even if it's made with their "special sauce" (when I called to order take-out, I asked the lady who answered the phone if the Pad Thai was made with tamarind sauce, which I think tastes much better than Pad Thai made with ketchup or tomato sauce, and she answered that it's made with their "special sauce" - it was great, nonetheless). It didn't taste overly ketchup-y, as some others made in other Thai restaurants around here can. Their chicken stirfried with cashews is mouth-watering, as well. Just enough spice to get your taste buds hopping, but not so much that you're guzzling glass after glass of water. Service is great, as my food arrived hot and just as I'd ordered it, within about 1/2 hour, which was actually earlier than the lady who worked there said it would take. I will definitely order takeout from Royal Thai again.
