Don't custom order
Submitted Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 8:21pm [Dine in]

I ordered an unagi roll with avocado and tobiko, and I was charged 6.95. The price didn't bother me until I opened the container and saw this sad little roll with slivers of avocado, and sparse tobiko beads. It was unreasonable at best, and the unagi was fishy. Salmon sashimi is good, but smaller.

Whatever....

Went there for lunch. Super tiny place. Makes me wonder how anyone can eat when the seating is sooo close together (you could bang elbows). Service was good, but the food was bland. Yes, bland. I ordered the Eggplant and it was so oily that it killed the flavours. For a place with a limited menu, I expected the food to be much better (like most of the reviews).

Sweet Revenge Patisserie4160 Main Street, Vancouver
Torn here
Submitted Monday, January 23, 2006 - 10:06pm [Dine in]

I kept on hearing amazing accolades about this patisserie, but I don't know why. It might be because I ordered the sweet revenge signature chocolate torte cake. It was hugely disapointing, and I usually eat anything chocolate (and especially dark chocolate). I didn't even bother to finish the cake. The coffee is a bit weak, but it could be due to the use of bodums. Try several presses before drinking.

I usually give a place a couple of tries before giving up, so I will go back to see if it was just that one dessert that was poor. But I am not rushing.

Cheesecake Etc.2141 Granville, Vancouver
Generic

The cheesecake is good, but generic. Nothing really wowed me or made me want to go back for more. The restaurant is dimly lit and seems a bit dark for a dessert restaurant. I wouldn't really recommend this as a better place to go.

Bon's Off Broadway2451 Nanaimo St., Vancouver
Cheap eats with large portions

Bon's is always busy on weekends. Perhaps it is the fact that breakfast consists of two eggs, two/three slices of bacon, toast and ample fried potatoes all for $2.95 including tax. Your greasy spoon for when you want it.

Good Stuff

I was surprised to see that this restaurant was not on the list. Kirin is the jewel of New West, and is located across from the skytrain station. Easy access people! I judge sushi restaurants by the sashimi first. The sashimi (wild salmon) is fresh and buttery in texture. The rolls and cones are very good as well. Prices are very reasonable. However, sometimes if the restaurant is busy you end up waiting. Bring good conversation and give this place a try.

This place was nice. The steaks are great and the pricing is fair, and it is better than the steaks served at the Keg. This is definately a steakhouse. Good and reliable. If you want 5 star dining go somewhere else.

Gimme a Break

I have tried this restaurant twice just to be sure. Both visits, the wait time was ridiculous. The pizza was thin alright, but tasted like cardboard. The caesar salad is served swimming in water. Not worth it.
