My husband and I finally had the opportunity to try out this new restaurant from the reviews we read. We had stepped in when they were just opening up for their lunch buffet. When we stepped in, we were impressed with the intimate and simple atmosphere and we were equally impressed by the great and attentive service we received by the owner/manager. I have tried Saffron on Kingsway and I really liked them but after trying and finding out that this restaurant/cook worked over at Saffron, Maurya, etc. I was hooked. Everything was fresh and tasty and I look forward to going back again for either their lunch or ala carte. The only thing was that I wish they had another type of dessert like rice or mango pudding. Hint, hint, hint = )
BTW, it's also a good sign when there were other diners and it was near capacity.
Had dinner at Tamarind Hill with some friends at their suggestion and to be honest, it was probably one of the best Malaysian restaurant I've ever been to. I can honestly say that I'm a fairly fast eater but I was taking my time just savoring each bite I took. Yes, I have tried Tropika and Banana Leaf and they were very good too but this place is worth the drive to New Westminster
I've passed this small restaurant many times but never tried it out before until recently. All I can say is that I'm glad I did because it's one of my favorite local haunts in the neighborhood. Though the food comes out slowly to the table but at least it's hot and fresh. I really like their nabayaki udon because it's in a clear and tasty broth. Definitely will be back. BTW, the Mr. ordered this curry bowl, though it was yummy, it had a lot of sauce...ask them to ease up on it, get the sauce on the side or just get extra rice
I have to admit that I can be a picky eater when it comes to pitas or falafel wraps. After trying this place out, this place blows all other wrap places out of the water. It is a family run business and even though they get bombarded with customers, they are always pleasant. They make everything fresh and tasty for you and the price is very reasonable. I did have fries there before and they were really good too...moist inside and crispy on the outside ( transparent ). Try out this place, you won't regret it.
It had been some time since I dined at UW and since being in the area, I thought to go in and grab a bite. As I remembered, nothing has changed with the quality of food and the decor. I usually go for my usual rotisserie chicken and salad bar and yet again I was not disappointed with my meal. For the price you pay, you can't compare apples to oranges with this buffet place and it is what it is...a no frills place for an inexpensive meal ( don't expect a 5 star meal in a 2 star place...if you do, you'll be disappointed ). The decor can definitely need some updating but I guess you do that and they'll be raising the price. All in all, I'll definitely dine at UW again
Started going to The Boss in Chinatown frequently for the last couple months. I would definitely say that I'm a regular at this cafe when servers would notice and greet me.
Though the food is quite average I was more appalled that they treated me very rudely when I didn't give them a more generous tip b/c it was Chinese New Year. I''m taking my business and my usual 15% tip elsewhere...like New Town, Goldstone, Marilyn
For the last couple weeks, my husband and I have been haunting restaurants and buffets ( not good for the waistline and wallet )and we decided to go back to Saffron since we hadn't been there in a long time. After this experience today, nothing else compares to here. If you ever go for their lunch buffet, you should try to get there just after they open and before there noon rush. The buffet table looked very presentable and colorful...very impressive was our thoughts. Lots of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes to choose from. I always enjoy and look forward to their butter chicken and funky deep fried crackers, but, it's the rice pudding that I'm hooked on. I was talking to this patron ahead of me and I guess she enjoyed it so much, she went back up for more.
Service was really attentive and they were just bustling. The server was really good at bringing back fresh and HOT naan to another table because they were waiting for another guest to arrive...without the patron even asking. That server took initiative, so he's in my good books!
Overall, I had a really great experience from Saffron and would highly recommend it!
Decided to check out Havana the other day ( it was between Havana or Fets )because every time I go by, it's always busy. I think next time I'll just go there to people watch and have drinks instead of having a meal. When I went mid-afternoon, the menu was really limited so I decided to get the sampler. Was not worth the price! It looked impressive but it was mostly inexpensive filler products- garlic bread, bruschetta, yam fries, nacho chips and just a pound of chicken wings. Service was average and most definitely a laid back staff - guess that's good for Commercial drive. I think for a happening place like Havana, I kind of expected more.
I remember Uprising when I was going to Britannia School in the 80's and it has really grown since then. You know with so many coffee shops opening and closing, this one has really proven itself that it's successful. I like the decor..nothing fancy but just funky and fun at times. The coffee is always good and hot and the baked goods is baked at the premise, unlike some places, they still get their stuff contracted out.
My husband and I were finally bored of eating slices at The Pizza Garden ( good pizza-don't get me wrong ) and decided to check out Britannia Sushi after walking past countless of times. Yes, it seemed not as popular as some other sushi places but it suited our taste just fine. We both had the bento box special - chicken or beef teriyaki with the fixings but miso soup not included. I have to admit for the price of 4.95 you can't go wrong. The portion was just enough for us though if you were famish, it may not be enough for you then. Didn't make it to the washroom but after reading the reviews, I'm glad I didn't find out on my own...yikes!!!
I was a regular Opa customer at the new downtown location at Pacific Centre Mall. I was really happy that they had finally opened up a fast and real tasty fast food Greek place. I really enjoy the meals there and the portions are really good. Though you have to wait a little bit longer because they prepare the stuff for you fresh. Just look at the line-ups and you know it's a popular place.
My only "beef" is that they don't use gloves when they prepare your food in front of you. That's right! Just think of all that bacteria and nasties when they prepare that tasty meal for you. My word of advice....stay away from anything that includes or requires pita.
For anyone who wants a really good cake-like donut...this is "THE" place for it. I heard alot of people talking about it and one day, a co-worker brought one in for me. It was amazing, a little oily but amazing. This place is situated in the heart of Deep Cove and the ambience is really quaint though I have to comment the size of the cafe shop is really small and cramp...especially on those busy and crazy days. It's a great local coffee shop ( forget Starbucks ) to just hang out...I know I'll be doing that when the weather is more favorable.
I agree with most of the reviews on Fatburger. The hype's all there but not the food. I had my first and last Fatburger awhile ago and it was not worth the price for what you got. Vera's a better place for burgers...and locally owned too!!!! For that price I paid at FB...I would have had 2 combo meals at Wendy's instead (even Wendy's burgers are better).
When I was going to Britannia, years ago, Andy's bakery was one of my favorite haunts ( Tony's was the other ). Though I haven't been there in a long time and I know they have downsided..it's great that people still acknowldege what great baked goods they have and great service they gave. I've always had great service there ( yes, even young punk kid like myself still had great service ). If I'm ever in the area again, I'll have to take "Bobeater's" suggestion and check out this sweet lady working there.
I love cheap eats or great deals. I truly find that if you stuff yourself crazy and still have left overs to take home, you've got yourself a heck of a deal.
I must admit, Anton's is a great Italian comfort food place. I think it's a hit and miss at times but otherwise it's pretty good for what you get. Since I live in the neighbourhood and the price of gas keeps me more in town, I would rather take the effort and drive out to Amorosa's instead. The portions is huge, even for a small. One time I ordered a large..it took me 2 days to finish it off.
Otherwise, Anton's is a good place to have your Italian meal fixings at a great price.
