Came to bowen island for the day and heard great things about this restaurant so gave it a try. Person taking the reservation over the phone was rude when I was undecided between patio or indoor for a minute. But in person, service was better than expected given the reviews. Server was great with recommendations and thorough with the specials. Also very helpful when helping us take a group photo.
Food overall was good, we had the Tuscany and the very meaty one (can't remember the name) and it came out very fresh and not overly oily. Portobello mushroom canelloni was also very tasty. Dessert was pretty solid, had the white chocolate cherry creme brulee and tiramisu, both very rich and creamy. Left pretty satisfied. Price was reasonable given what you get. Will come back but probably not for a while since there isn't much else to do on the island.
Had dinner with friends here last night and really enjoyed the food and service. We had the featured seafood lasagne which was quite tasty and good size portion. The Spaghetti con Vongole was our favourite, all agreed it had the best sauce, white wine with olive oil. Best part was the value for your money, we used our Entertainment cards and received 4 dinner entrees for $36! Will return again!
I come here quite often as it is near home and with decent quality and value. No complaints really, always clean and service is decent.
Fav. dishes include the chicken karaage (very good dipping sauce), the spicy pasta, tuna tataki. The Gohan roll is also interesting and refreshing. This will continue to be a reliable place to go in Burnaby for a satisfying meal.
I used to come here more often as a student at SFU. It is still a great place for me to hang out and catch up with old friends, grab a decent bite for good value. Sometimes the service can be slow if its very busy, but most of the time we love it for their great burgers (Tues. is burger night) and cheap drinks. Havarti and Cajun Chicken are my favourite.
I am an occasional diner at Shota as it is unfortunately not located in my neighbourhood. However, everytime I dine here the rolls are consistently delicious, with fresh seafood rolled in original recipes. I feel I must clarify some false claims in previous reviews as Shota does have lunch menus for good value. There are bento boxes for less than $10 and a special famous roll sushi with salad, soup and a side for under $13.
My ultimate favourite is the scallop magma roll with spicy tuna and scallops drizzled in a yummy black sesame sauce. Spicy tuna is also another favourite with their own house special sauce and pieces that melt in your mouth. I always leave Shota very satisfied.
