Not impressed!
Submitted Monday, November 22, 2010 - 6:25pm [Dine in]

Ate there today for the UFC fight and was very disappointed. It was surprisingly not as busy as we expected - that should have been our first clue. There was just one waitress downstairs and she told us it was her first night. She was friendly but a little odd.
We ordered spinach dip and hot wings with blue cheese dip to start and a quesadilla and burger for dinner. Imagine my surprise when, along with the hot wings, came a big slab of blue cheese. When I asked our server for blue cheese dip instead of a chunk of cheese, she said they didn't have any, but within moments came back with some sort of blue cheese-esque concoction - which was disgusting to say the least.
The wings were good. Not the best, a bit too much sauce, but good. The spinach dip had way too much cheese, and it ended up forming a hard top once the cheese cooled.
The "chicken" quesadilla should be called the cheese quesadilla, as I didn't taste chicken at all. In fact, I didn't eat half the quesadilla and we ended up openin it up and examined for chicken - barely any. The burger wasn't fully cooked and was not good. The French dries however are delicious.
Our server was rarely around, and the food took a very long time to get to us - both the appies and entree. We won't go back, which is too bad because it is just a block away.

Flavorless with a view.

I went here for lunch with some co-workers and can't say that I would recommend this place. Walking inside, Saltaire has a very nice decor with a large outdoor patio. We sat indoors, next to one of the large windows and had a good view of the water and Stanley Park.

The tables and chairs are way too close together, as my co-workers who sat across from me had to interrupt the people eating behind them in order to get to their chairs.

The menu sounded delicious - I ordered the Pesto Chicken Focaccia sandwich with yam fries. Also ordered was the Spinach & Roasted Apple Salad and a Prawn Fetuccini. No one was overly impressed with their meals - my sandwich had absolutely no flavour other than a hint of burnt chicken. However we all agreed that the yam fries were good.

As far as service goes, I just had an ice water to drink which only got refilled once over the entire 1.5 hours we were there. It wasn't busy (Wednesday, noon) but our server was nowhere around. Also, back on the seats being too close together, our server couldn't reach one plate to add fresh ground pepper to, so she completely leaned over the plate of my co-worker to do so.

If the food was good, I'd say the prices would be a 3 or 4. However, the food wasn't outstanding or memorable - how do you put a price on tasteless?
Won't be back.

Happy at Happy Valley

Local dim sum restaurant, I go there almost once a week. The food is always great, big portions for the price. Between me and my boyfriend, we always order about 5 different dishes and it comes to about $25 or less each time. The people are always friendly. Usually we go around noon on Sundays when it is packed and probably stressful for all the employees, but everyone seems to have a smile on their face and keeps their composure.

The only negative thing I have to say about Happy Valley, is that since it's just the 2 of us that go to eat their, we always get stuck in the back corner near the kitchen or right beside the bar. I would give it a higher rating under ambiance if we sat in a better place when we went.

Happy Valley is great!
