What a dissapointment
Submitted Friday, November 26, 2010 - 9:54pm [Dine in]

After reading the reviews on this website we trotted off for dinner at this apparently wonderful fish and chips restaurant.

The first impression is that this looks more like a fast food joint than a restaurant. There was a big counter that it looked like you order from and a few seats in front of it, plus the blazing lighting. Horrible ambiance, basic setting. We might as well have been in McDonalds.

We ordered. The calamari appy was not bad, have to say. For entrees, I had halibut fish & chips and my wife had the lamb curry (oh, it's a fish & chips / indian restaurant). The food came on basic plates and the presentation was REALLY basic. My wife's lamb curry was watery. The naan and rice were EXTRA. Fish and chips were ok, nothing special at all.

Oh, and most offensive impression of all? Fruit flies galore, flying around us and my 9 month old daughter.

All told? $44. I know we had an appy and I had one beer, but that was WAY too much for this meal. I wouldn't have gone back if it was $30.

Overpriced sub-par sushi. Save your $ and go elsewhere

I have to say that I purchased take out so I can't speak to service or ambiance.

I initially ordered one rainbow roll, california roll and a 1/2 order of salmon sahimi. Total cost, a whopping $48. The rainbow roll was $18 on its own.

Now, I'm not a penny pincher and am prepared to shell out for good food, so since the proof is in the pudding my attention turned to the food once I mortgaged my house to pay the bill.

The rainbow roll was fresh, stuffed with different fish as well as avocado but the centre was filled with the same fill as the california roll. Boo. This is normally filled with prawns in the better restaurants but it seems that the $18 I spent on it wasn't enough to justify that for Zen.

The sushi was marginal, not that bad but the problem was it was way overpriced for less than average quality, even taking into account the expected increase in price in Whistler.

Save your money and go elsewhere.
